giveaway: i heart photography

the moment i spied irene suchocki's whimsical work, i was in love. her photography speaks for itself. she creates images with imagination. i've never seen anything like it. just browsing her collection of simple and serene scenes makes me want to collect a few belongings, head to the Cape with a scarf on my head and a book in my hand to watch the soft waves roll over my toes. her prints would be an amazing addition to any studio, bedroom or nursery wall. though her new series, city of love (photographs of paris shown below), may be my favorite.

irene is sweetly offering one m.writes reader their choice of any 8x10 or 8x8 print in her etsy shop. start browsing, start swooning. simply leave me a comment on this post by thursday, january 22nd and tell me where you met your sweetheart or your favorite vacation spot. i'll announce the winner on friday, january 23rd. thank you, irene!

ooh la la. love is in the air.
and just in time for valentine's.
{images by irene.}

p.s. today is a national day of service. don't forget to spread the love.

  5. I met my sweetheart through letters (handwritten). We were penpals--I in America he in London. I knew I wanted to live abroad and tried to make friends over in London before I moved over and he was one of them. We knew everything about each other before we first met through letters and phonecalls. The rest just fell into place perfectly afterwards including it being topped off with a marriage proposal on the beach in Nice. :)

I've been all over the world and honestly I can say my favorite place is Paris. Its our home away from home and we go at least once a year. Our hearts belong to this city and it ironically covers our walls too. Most of the art we have is from Montemartre or are vintage french posters from around the city.

So you could say I really, really, really would like one of irene's photos because of what the city means to me and because of my love of all things art!!!!!

P.S. Thanks for the heads up on her etsy shop. I had never heard of her before now---her style is divine and completely 'me'!!!

I met My Sweets when I was 15 and he was 17. We were at a Law Explorers meeting in a town halfway between his and mine. We both wanted to be lawyers when we grew up. I knew the second I saw him that I would love him forever. I just knew. We dated a few times and then he went away to college. We wrote and sent silly post cards and good luck pennies and fast became bffs. Every relationship I had was doomed to comparison. Nobody was good enough because nobody was Tom. We knew we were falling in love, but our timing was always off. I feared he'd be the best man in my wedding and not The Man. In college we lived near each other and one summer just took that leap. He asked me to marry him 5 months after our first "date" as grownups and the rest is history. I love that he knew me through all my wild phases... through all my other relationships and discoveries. I'm rambling. Anyway, that's how we met.

i love these photos! i met my sweetheart back in secondary school on the first day of class.though the both of us have been in the same school since we were freshmen, and although we were finally in the same class when we were fifteen,we didn't really click because he was a trouble maker and i was well, the goody two shoes.

we were forced to sit together in class at sixteen and my teacher regretted doing so because we clicked so well from that day onwards that we really couldn't stop chit chatting. we were separated at seventeen by the same teacher and only got together after we graduated because it took me quite a while to realise that i was totally into this bad boy.from bestfriends at the age of sixteen to having a ring when i turned eighteen, meeting him was the coolest thing ever.

we are total opposites, but i love him all the same(:

  127. I loved reading all the places to meet a sweatheart in the comments. Summer camp, high school and college are long gone so I am more likely to find love in starbucks, whole foods, or office max like some of your readers. I like dreaming about all the possibilities!

My next vacation I hope will be to Portland.

  128. My most favorite place in the whole world is 1) Venice and 2) Paris. My most favorite place to vacation? - a week off of work in my PJs watching tv, reading books and not having to answer the phone!

  129. I was 15 and at my first day at a new high school - which was in an office building in the middle of the city. I remember seeing his long curly hair glisten in the morning sunlight and wandered up and asked what he was listening to on his headphones - he gave me a great smile and we ended up talking for hours, weeks, and well I guess you could say years now.

  130. Love these photos! Love Paris! Love your blog!
Have been a "silent" reader and lover of your blog for some time now...but I just had to comment on these beauties. Favorite vacation -- Australia. Perfect beaches and great company.
    Thanks!

  131. I love your writing--and I love these photos. I met my sweetheart while we were missionaries in Chile in 1997. We truly disliked each other as missionaries (he was immature, I was bossy) but after we returned home we met again at our reunion and gave it a go. We've been married for almost 10 years!

  133. As a photographer, I can so appreciate beautiful photography! Although I think anyone would love Irene's photography!

I met my husband on the one of those internet dating sites. I know it sounds slimy but that's how I found my guy. Even though he lived only a few blocks away, I don't think our paths would have crossed otherwise.

My favorite vacations spot was our honeymoon a few months back in Kauai, Hawaii...it was wonderful!

  144. so fun to read how we met stories! My husband and I met in high school, in two parts. I first remember him when I went to see friends performing in his school musical, Pirates of Penzance, and I was taken by the handsome Pirate King with a gorgeous smile. He first remembers me from a few months later, when their school show choir came to my high school to perform. The guys picked a girl from the audience, me, to serenade with "Can You Feel the Love Tonight." He said he was so nervous, because he thought I was so beautiful, and I of course loved the serenade. We didn't interact much after that, but two years later, we were at college together. We just celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary this past New Year's Eve. He is my best friend and the love of my life!

  145. Thanks for this great giveaway! I met my sweetheart 36 years ago at a barn dance! And our two favorite places would have to be Venice and Paris!

  146. I met my sweetie in 9th grade. I was the new girl from Texas. He was the Pennsylvania-bred local boy. He asked me to dance at the Snowball Dance. I obliged, but was more interested in his friend. A few years later, he asked me to the senior prom. I obliged again and fell head over heels in love. We've been together for 11 years now (including a four-year long-distance stint through college). He's my best friend, the love of my life, my forever dance partner.

(Sigh. I'm getting misty-eyed just thinking about him.)

after multiple break ups (including the 4 years i went to college, we found that we were complete in each other. We were married 7 years to the date of our first date back in high school.

my love interest and i met through mutual friends initially, but it wasn't until we spent an afternoon in the park just the two of us (our other two friends bailed at the last minute) one spring day that we fell in love. something about dappling sunlight through the trees, sharing the buds of an ipod and untouched lunch due to those persistent butterflies. we have been together ever since. and then we had a baby.

We sat on the counter together and ate soda crackers. We both moved away to new towns and grew up. We met again in college in a public speaking class...the rest is history.

  165. Her photographs are so romantic. My sweetheart and I honeymooned to Sayulita, Mexico, and can't wait to go back another time. It's a little surfing village north of Puerto Vallarta. It was the best. For a closer spot (we live in Florida), we spent our first anniversary on Sanibel Island. Every hotel has cruiser bikes for you to get around the island. Fantastic.

Sight unseen I claimed him, my junior his senior year in HS. He was the new boy in town, I was the broken hearted small town girl. My friend dragged me to his house where he had invited a few of the boys on the bus for a card game. He didn't mind two girls crashing his party. :) We married at 19 and 20. Oh so young but we are still together.

    I love the photographer's style.
I want a style. Pick me, Pick me.

I think my favorite vacation spot is a cabin in the mountains near a stream. I love it there... so relaxing. I forget all worries when I'm there.
