footprint valentines

the boy and i did a little project together. and i can only hope it's the first of many. he was chuckling every time i painted his foot for another print. i love how each footprint came out uniquely different. each card is a one of a kind print. there is nothing as sweet as little baby feet.

valentine prints diy
01. non-toxic washable paint set.
02. fine bristled paint brush.
03. art pad, i like thick paper made for watercolors.
04. baby wipes for quick clean up.

i painted & stamped benji's little footprint repeatedly on one piece of large art paper which was a speedy and efficient process, a must for having a wiggly wee one as your sidekick. then i cleaned him up and let him loose. i let the prints dry and used a paper cutter to cut them into cards. i added a simple message on each. it was fun to make valentines together, starting a tradition long before the days he and i are standing side by side in the supermarket choosing between thomas the tank engine and batman.

  6. I'm glad it worked for you. We tried to do Hannah's hand-print on her cards for family home evening and she wasn't having it. She screamed having the paint on her hands. Jimmy suggested the foot, but I thought she was a little too old.

Oh well, it was the effort right?

  15. these are sooo cute! it's adorable how, because the paper size is actually small, his footprints look kind of big..

.. or it could just be because it's online and i've no context for size.

either way, what a great idea!

  16. cute idea! think porter would like to make those for his classmates? i've left valentines to the last minute and it is rainy, so his classmates are getting homemade and yogos because it's what we've got. maybe he'll go for the footprints or maybe we'll just do the heart people we did last year.

  18. I'm so impressed you got his feet so still. I tried this last year for Father's Day and Jake was so wiggly his feet don't look near as good. Maybe I'll try it again this year! What a great idea.

  27. Benji's baby feet are so darling. When my 5 year old was a baby my husband started a tradition of giving me two cards for every birthday or Mother's Day--one from him and one from the baby. On the baby's card, he outlined the baby's hand with his age and a short message. I treasure those cards. I love this idea for Valentines cards too.

  32. Great idea. I do the same thing with my children's handprints (for my 2.5 year old) and footprints (for my 3.5 month old) for their thank you cards. It's always a big hit!

  33. Very cute. If you position both feet just right, you could make a heart out of them, too.
