giveaway: freshly picked pillow

it seams all the prettiest gifts start and end with a needle and thread. am visualizing a must-learn-to-sew new years resolution on my list in the very near future. and after stumbling onto this awesome blog, said must-have sewing skill is singing to me loud and clear. enter more ruffles. be still my heart.

freshly picked is a small business created by susan. she just may be the hippest mama i've ever landed upon in blogland. i mean, she sews skinny jeans for her toddler, not to mention encourages shiny gold leggings. a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e. susan is known for her fabulous handmade goods seen at local craft fairs. if you live in utah, you can stalk her at the upcoming beehive bazaar, the first weekend of december! a few favorites are her ruffly skirts, velcro wallets, wristlets, baby mocs and adorable throw pillows. i cannot help but keep linking, this girl knows style.

lucky for us, susan is kindly offering one of her famous handmade ruffly pillows for one m.writes reader. you know i want in on this one too. simply leave a comment to enter to win. now tell me, who is your style icon? will be shutting down comments tonight @ bedtime so i can tend to my turkey who will be brining in his bath. therefore hurry up and comment and come back tonight to see if you've won. the random winner will be announced on this post.

congratulations to ashley whose style icon (like many of you) is her dear ol' sis!!

thank you to susan at freshly picked. fyi: susan is currently only selling her items at shows and craft fairs, however if we nag her enough, perhaps we'll see a freshly picked shop online in 2010. here's to hoping.

p.s. this weekend is the last opportunity to order your numbered advent stickers in time to get them by december 1st. i absolutely love melissa's idea of wrapping 25 christmas stories for your little ones to unwrap each night. she does it every year and i think i will too. happy thanksgiving!

  2. My current style icon has got to be Jenna Lyons! Who I think (based solely on the Dec catalog) would also appreciate these ruffly pillows. They are gorgeous.

(sidenote: My daughters crib bumper was lined with similar ruffles inside, so I think the pillow would feel at home at our place. Wink, wink)

i love that you are cookin' your turkey! good luck!

  34. Oh, I love ruffles! If I don't win, I might have to make myself a pillow like this. Knowing how to sew does come in handy, I actually just turned some old bootcut cords into stylish skinny cords. And went on a pant-hemming extravaganza as well. Now I feel like I have a new wardrobe. My style icon is Anthropologie.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Just gorgeous those ruffles! I am not sure about a style icon - I rely on Boden for my staples and seasons colours but admire Kate Middletons country style really.

I'm not sure I really have a style icon!! I pretty much just do my own thing, and my younger sister keeps me in check!

    These pillows are FABULOUS though!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Beyond fabulous!

I don't really have a style icon because I really love so many different styles.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Love the pillows! I love anything from Z Gallery or Ballard Design or Pottery Barn! Not necessarily style icons...but some of my favorite design stores for sure!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. These pillows are too cute! Perfect for the guest room over at our house!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all of you M.Writes readers!

  42. I wish I could think of a style icon, but I think the world of blogs has given me WAY too much to covet, uh I mean aspire toward. I love so much of the DIY, handmade goodness that can be found on this web!

    ReplyDelete
  43. ruffles? Yes, please.
And you know what, I don't have a style icon. I look to other women in my life and around the web to gain inspiration.

    ReplyDelete
  44. i'm loving those pillows! I sure do love me some ruffles. my style icon most recently is my mom. I couldn't believe how absolutely cute and put together she looked each day she was here while visiting.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am SO into ruffles right now! One of those pillows would be perfect!!!

My style icon has to be Audrey Hepburn. It will never get classier then her.

    ReplyDelete
  46. ooh this is such an exciting giveaway! nice pillows are way out of my budget these days, so this would be an awesome win for me.

my style icon would probably have to be my cousin natalie. she is tops. dresses, decorates, and is splendid.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm not the first to say so, but my style icon is most definitely miss Zooey Deschanel. Gracious, she is gorgeous and funky and artistic and soft in all of the right ways... sometimes I wish I could be her...

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm loving Kate Hudson right now.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Style Icon: Stacy London. I want her shoes and her hair very badly!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I have to agree with some of the other commenters. I would say my style icon is Stacy London from What Not To Wear. She always has great style and ideas!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I spent the past hour going through her blog page by page. I really want to learn how to use my sewing machine now!!

Style icon(s)... I love Reese Witherspoon and Keri Russell. They both have such effortless style. Gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  53. What a fun giveaway! I know it seems like a cop out but I don't know who my style icon is. I am a hodge podge of a lot of different styles and designs! I love it all, truthfully!

    ReplyDelete
  56. My style icon is my girlfriend, Alaina. No matter what time of day or night she is sooo put together even though she's working and in grad school. From ballet slippers with jewels to a huge ornate flower in her hair... she's always got that extra touch!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Fun giveaway! I just love those ruffly pillows.

My style icon lately is Olivia Palermo, that snotty girl from The City. I just can't help it, she is too chic for words.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I can't really say I have *one* style icon. I think I look at different people for different things. I do, however, have a tendency to really look closely at women who can't do it all and aren't going crazy trying. I always seem to be spinning in a million directions and I'm usually pretty tough on myself. I really admire the women who have that sort of "I can't do it all and frankly don't care to" attitude. :)

Hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving! And thanks for the giveaway, ruffles rock!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I have to agree with the gal who said Jenna Lyons; I adore JCrew and the turn they've taken in the last few years, plus Jenna is as tall as I (5'11) and is in charge of their tall line, so we're kindred lanky spirits.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I have wanted one of these forever, and will not be able to make it to the Beehive Bazaar. I would have to say my style icon is the store Anthropologie. They are an icon of themselves, I love it and would spend thousands if I could.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have fallen in love with her blog! I get some great ideas of things to sew but haven't quite brushed the dust off my sewing machine yet.

My fashion icon is Zooey Deschanel. Do I dress like her? No. Do I wish I could pull what she wears off? YES!! Just need to be daring and burst out of my boring fashion shell.

    ReplyDelete
  62. ohhhhhhhhhh! I read Freshly Picked regularly and am so excited for the chance to win Suz's ruffle pillow! It will go perfectly with my newly painted master bedroom. My style icon...that is tough. I live in Aspen, Colorado, and we get the opportunity to see some of the best fashion, or most "creative" fashion you might ever see. My icon might not even be a person, but the window displays at Theory, Ralph Lauren and Christian Dior...come on, a gal can dream! :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. love love love those pillows, and have been drooling over them since first seeing them over on susan's blog. just gorgeous!

style icon? does my sister count? she spends far more time keeping up to date than I do, so I tend to rely on her to keep me up to speed!

    thanks for a great giveaway!
