Arizona stole my heart 20 years ago...I loved the wide-open spaces, the rugged mountain ranges, the desert and saguaro, the blue, blue sky, even the way you could stand in the shade and be (sort of) comfortable on the hottest day. When we had to move away, I cried for 6 months. (The next state that I love is Colorado, it is heaven on earth with its beautiful mountains!) Now I live in Georgia, and it is surprisingly nice too!

  2. I love CA (my home state) and NC (my current home)... but most of all I love HI - it's where we honeymooned.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Oh California will always be my one true love with NY as a close second.

    ReplyDelete
  4. West Virginia! It's my home state and it's green, mountainous, and beautiful. Plus it's such a unique shape! :)

  5. i left NJ to spend four years as a virginia tech hokie. i spent my freshman year hating it, my sophmore year indifferent, my junior year flirting, and my senior year falling in love! pieces of my heart will always be in VA with my hokies!

  6. this print is fantastic. love it.
my fave state which will always have my heart is ... california. big surprise. thanks marta & gregory for the chance.

  7. North Carolina...my home state. I was born and raised here. As a child I could not wait to get away, but as an adult I have been able to adventure out and enjoy all of its treasures and hidden charm. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

I've lived in three states but no matter how long I've been gone NY state holds my heart. I was born and raised there and it will always be home.

I love West Virginia (also my home state, Amanda!) because it's so green and mountainous and has so many false stereotypes ... but California captured my heart two years ago when I went to SF for the first time.

  10. My heart will always be in California. It's where I grew up, fell in love, and where I can get the best Del Taco known to man. (It's in Barstow, CA btw). :)

  11. Tennessee. I have lived here at two different times and will never ever live anywhere else. I am lucky to be married to my best friend, living on family property, in his grandparents' house that we've lovingly remodeled during the 12 years of our marriage. After having moved many times through my Dad's military family, it is a strange, and comforting feeling, to know that I am home. Never to move again, just to make better. Things are beginning to look lived in, and loved, and like a family lives here.

I am lucky . Just so lucky. I never thought this would happen.

  12. TN has stolen my heart. I'm originally from the great state of IL. But the warmer winters and soft accents whisked me away!

massachusetts - lived in boston for a summer and loved every minute of it.

    thanks!

  15. Though I was born in Montana, my family moved to Indiana when I was three. The flat, mid-Western state is definitely a home, but when I go to Montana, the huge open skies, reserved form of friendliness, and emphasis on caring and self-reliance completely steal my heart each time. Also, the air smells beautiful there, probably because it never gets too, too hot and all those Ponderosa pines.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I am an Arizona girl, born and raise, through and through. It has stolen my heart in hundreds of ways, but lately I've been loving the desert mountain views.

That print is the coolest thing! Such an original idea.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Massachusetts! For all my bellyachin' about snow, I wouldn't give up these glorious seasons for anything! Love the print almost as much as I love "m.writes". Thanks for a fun giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  18. What a neat print! Toss up between Colorado & Maine - love the mountains and sky in CO, love the ocean & forests in ME... I get giddy with excitement as I approach either state!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  20. i love PA - my home, where i went to school, where i met the love of my life. i have to remind myself not to take the breathtaking landscapes for granted. that not everyone has mountains and forests and lakes in their backyards.

    ReplyDelete
  21. that's an easy one: my home state of Pennsylvania!

    ReplyDelete
  22. California, hands down. I've been loving this print for a while now. I hope I win!

    ReplyDelete
  23. This piece is awesome.

For me it's New Mexico. NM is a greatly misunderstood state (you speak English there?) so it's greatness is unknown: the landscape, the food, the kindness of the people, and my mother is there.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous7:25 AM

I got to Massachusetts seven years ago and wanted to crawl home on my hands and knees, but somewhere along the way I turned into pretty solid New England stock. Love that dirty water, and all.

    Thanks, M!

  25. Ooooh, it's not a state persay, but a district.

    D.C.

    Ooooh, how I love D.C.

Oh my gosh! I have been lusting after this print for a long time! I have lived in many states (9) and right now my heart is spread out amongst many of those states with my family and friends- AR, MN, IL, CT, and where I am NC!

    ReplyDelete
  27. My home state of Illinois.

  28. I guess I will have to pick the state that holds so many wonderful childhood summer memories. Memories of planting marigolds with my Grandma, of fishing for sticks in the lake with my Dad, of hearing my cousin Andy ring the old cowbell at the front of the house, of pedaling around in the paddle boat with my brother, of watching my Mom show me how to waterski on WOODEN skis, of playing soccer around the trees with my brother, of playing cards (the game, Spit, to be exact) with my cousin Karen AND of listening to the stories that my Grandfather told while sitting outside on the stone patio eating freshly picked corn on the cob and drinking just brewed iced tea.

In conclusion, it is Maine that has stolen my heart.

    ReplyDelete
  29. California - From reading Jack Kerouac, living in Mammoth on a traveling visa and travelling across it with the 'rents as a child.

My boyf and I have a dream of hiring a car and driving across the states - maybe for a 'special holiday' (if you catch my drift *wink wink* )

  30. Grew up in New Mexico, school in Idaho and Utah, lived in Oregon and California. I call Utah home, now. However, Oregon was the first and only place I've ever felt devastated to leave. I love it so very much.

    ReplyDelete
  31. i grew up in oregon with a poster of new hampshire on the wall. something about those rolling hills, tree lined roads, and fiercely beautiful autumns wins my heart.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous7:56 AM

    This print is A-MAZING!

Minnesota has stolen my heart. I love traveling way up along the Northshore of eastern Minnesota, it is the most beautiful place I have ever been. Endless trails, friendly people, peaceful, and an occassional moose. Such good memories up there. *Big sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  33. Utah! I may have only lived here but it was where I grew up, fell in love, got married, had a baby, fell in love again. It is also where I will have more babies and keep falling in love with them over and over again!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Couldn't ask an easy question, could you? LOL

DH and I take LONG road trips (4 weeks or more) and we've been thru something like 38 states. Every one of them unfolds its beauty to you if you are willing to see.

So I'd have to say the state that has stolen my heart is whatever one I'm currently in...

    ReplyDelete

They all hold a little piece of my heart.

  52. Utah. I never thought in a million years that I would end up in Utah but I got into the U law school and came out from California to visit. I flew in at sunset in March and the entire snow covered Wasatch Range was bathed in pink and I fell in love. And then I met my husband and we got married and had a kid and now I'll never leave.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm IN LOVE with Maine (even though I've never been there). My husband and I are going there for our honeymoon and I can't wait! We're going to see lighthouses, the coast, lobsters, seals, puffins, and whales.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Tennessee will always have my heart. When you're born and raised somewhere, it's not even a calling to come back, it's an electric pull. I hope to visit all of the states someday, and even if I end up moving somewhere else in the future, I know I can (and will) always come back to the state full of music and good, southern food and the most generous, honest people in the world.

  64. Montana! Its such a beautiful, quiet, peaceful place.

    ReplyDelete

this print is fantastic. thanks, marta. love, lindsay

    ReplyDelete
  91. I love the second largest state. So many states have so much to offer and I do love to visit them all, but Texas is so diverse and the 10 to 12 hours (or more) to cross depending on which way you go can take you from beaches, to swamps, rolling hills, deserts, pine forests, plateaus, rolling plain and even a few mountains. I think the only thing we lack is real lakes as, fun fact, all but one is man made and we share that one with Louisiana. We like to share like that. Love my state.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  96. half of my childhood was spent in Europe; as fun as that was, the United States definitely holds a large place in my heart. it was fun to return back to where my parents grew up - Utah. at first, i just couldn't get over how beautiful the mountains are...when the leaves in the mountains change color and the tops of the mountains have a dusting of snow...or when the mountains are covered in snow and reflect the colors of the sunset. Utah has so many great qualities - lakes, rivers, mountains, desert, salt flats, history, and family!

    ReplyDelete
  97. When you say Wisconsin, you've said it all.

    ReplyDelete
  98. wow! i loved this so much i just clicked on over to the etsy shop to buy one!... and then i realized my husband will be buying it for me instead! ReplyDelete

so illinois. home of joliet jake and nameless other rough and tough-sters.

    xoxo.

    ReplyDelete
  106. How pretty is that?? I'd have to say California. I've traveled a lot, but I still love this darn state. Although I wish I could just up and move further north within it, because the bay area is so awesome, but don't want to leave my family! What other state gives you mountain, desert, ocean and forest all in one?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Massachusetts-went there as a little girl and memorized the details of it. 20 yrs later, still enchanted with it.

  113. Michigan. It's beautiful. So green and gorgeous lakes, beautiful 4 seasons -- I could most definitely live there.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

Oklahoma. It is my home state and I miss it terribly. Well mainly I just miss my family but they are all in OK. We currently live in GA and I have to say the South is definitely growing on me.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Alaska has all of my heart. For always

    ReplyDelete
  117. i'd love that! its in my etsy favorites currently. :)

    What a cool print!

Visiting all 50 states is on my 'bucket list' and so far I've only been to a handful.

But I love Arizona! Which is strange since I don't like being hot and sand isn't my thing. But Arizona captivates me.

I happened upon you blog a bit ago and have been catching up through the archives. I’m inspired by your writing style and think that you have shared your life and the joy you are experiencing with your little family.

Now, as to which state stole my heart: Arizona, through and through. It has been my home on record all my life, but for the past 26 years I have just visited fairly regularly, and I never cease to get butterflys in my stomach when the Superstition mountains come into sight when flying into Sky Harbor Airport.

  123. I love the whole country! I have lived in California, Utah, Virginia (twice), Texas, and Nebraska. I spent my summers as a child in Nevada and Wyoming, and there are only five states I have not been too. I am a Californian through and through, and though that is where a majority of my heart is...well, Nebraska won me over! Really, just won a huge chunk of my heart, with its landscape, the kindness of its people, the history...love it!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Massachusetts. Absolutely.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I love NY and CA because my favorite cities (New York City and San Francisco) are in those states... but I also love NJ because I have a lovely "second" family there - and it feels like home being there. =)

    ReplyDelete
  126. Utah has my heart!!! It will always be home to me...although I do lllove to travel and have enjoyed many other states!!

    ReplyDelete
  127. I absolutely love this print. I love all things maps.

I live in Florida now, but I will always call Louisiana home. It's such a unique state. It's the only state that uses parishes instead of counties, and where the residents say "makin' groceries" instead of grocery shopping. :)

I'm from a little town outside of New Orleans, so New Orleans holds a special place in my heart. The people there are so amazing and resilient. They've endured a lot, but they continue on. It's pretty difficult to visit the city and not fall in love with it.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I have only recently discovered your site and I immediately fell in love with your work. Your creativity is an inspiration-- thank you!

The great State of Maine will always and forever have my heart. As often as I have tried to convince myself that going elsewhere would make me a happier person, I have come to grow and realize that the things that make me the happiest are all around me every day. From the landscape to the people to the sheer beauty I see around me every single day, I know that Maine will always have my heart.

    ReplyDelete

Still my heart skips a beat for North Carolina; where my husband and i lived our first year of marriage; it's our state

    ReplyDelete
  135. We may all refer to the state in which we live, and I do love my state, but a state theat's stolen my heart is one I've yet to visit.
I'm completely enthralled by the Pacific NW (not sure which state yet) but I've never been west of the Mississippi. I watch every TV show that I can, look at photos... I'm in love and I know that once I visit, I'll want to stay. Get ready for me out there! LOL

  137. Oh yay!
I have had this print saved as one of my favorites forever!

Even though I reside in Nevada, I love my neighboring state, California!

  138. Colorado...spending summer vacations stole my heart forever!

  139. Arizona. I fell in love here. Married here. Had my family here. If you can sweat it out during the summer, then you've earned the right to stay and enjoy the winter -which is mild and beautiful. ;)

  140. The stars at night are big and bright (clap clap clap clap) deep in the heart of TEXAS!

Admission1: I've never even been to TEXAS but I am so in love with it that I've planned a trip I can't yet afford to take. Someday!
Admission2: The reasons I love TEXAS are kind of embarassing- DCC, Dallas (the TV show), and more cowboys than I could ever know what to do with, not to mention texmex.

  143. Maryland! At my folks house right smack dab in the middle of state you are just 2 hours from the amazing mountains and only 3 hours from the relaxing beach. It really does have it all and I find myself drifting off and dreaming about it sometimes in my zen moments!

  150. So many states have stolen my heart. Right out of HS I had a goal to go to all 50 states. I have Alaska left. One of the ones I absolutely found charming was Massachusetts. Loved the history, the architecture, the whimsical nature of Cape Cod, sea food, salt water taffy, etc... Loved it all!

  156. I'm grew up in Oregon and I love that state but over the last few months Alaska has completely and entirely stolen my heart. No matter how miserable my day is or how much my heartaches from missing my family and friends, I can literally just look up and around me and remember why I am here. This state is beautiful. The people are amazing. This state will always, always, ALWAYS hold a piece of my heart.

    This is where I live:
