please comment today to enter to win.
tell me the best gift you've given or received for mother's day.
you only have until tonight to enter.

a bit of a bio :: Gracielane quilts started with my impulsive need to buy fabric. I had to find something to help me work through my stash that was quickly growing, so my love affair with quilting was born. My shop hosts a variety of products. Fabric from bolts, my personal stash sales, plus projects that I have been working on. Quilts, table runners, toppers, pillows and pin cushions. Recent additions to the store are works of art created by my sister Whitney with her embroidery stitches. I have a lot of spring additions in the works that will be added shortly as well as 4th of July inspired quilts, so check back soon!

thank you abby! visit her blog + shop.

congratulations to... staci who commented, Best gift for Mother's Day I have given is a homemade pearl necklace and earrings. I used to love making jewelry back when my creative juices were flowing.

p.s. hurry over to good look cookbook for another handmade gift idea, posted by yours truly. and be sure to tune in tomorrow for a bonus weekend giveaway.

  1. I think the best gift I've given to my mom was a day out with her sister. My sister and I got them pedicures, took them for lunch, and then went to the local gardens for a tour... afterwards we bought them a beautiful hanging basket. They loved the gesture and they especially loved being able to spend the day together!

  11. Every year our local Farmer's Market starts the day before Mother's Day - so our tradition is to buy all the new flowers for our Mom's garden that day - including big hanging baskets.

I think that the best Mother's day gift that I have given was a small scrapbook of my Mother-and-law and son and their days together. She was a really big help when he first came into the world and I got the opportunity to catch a lot of their time together on camera. Grandma's love those sorts of things!

  17. well, im not a mother, but i like to make my mom gifts every year. i think the year I finally finished knitting the sweater i started for her two christmases before was a pretty good one! as a kid, my dad would take my sister and i to work with him on saturday morning and then we would go to the greenhouse and pick out some flowers. so it was like mother and father bonding.

  18. I don't think I have any "best" mother's day gifts that I've given. My mom is impossible to shop for. Even my dad comes to me for advice on what to get her. I did buy her some pearls a few years back from a Pearl factory in Mallorca, Spain.

  29. Funnily enough, I think the years when I've resorted to flowers and candy may have been the most successful with my mom. I always try to come up with something useful and yet frivolous enough she wouldn't already have it, and its so hard, but last year I got her a really nice potted red begonia, some hedgehogs (quality hazelnut chocolates) and a new pair of gardening gloves. She was thrilled with the begonia, and it held the place of pride on the porch most of the summer, and of course the hedgehogs were a delight for her love of nuts and chocolate. Simple pleasures, but good ones.

  35. Every year on Mother's Day my husband and kids take me out to our local nursary and we pick out a bunch of flowers for around our house. It's a special day because I get to spend it with them but also because I can be reminded of Mother's Day and how much my family loves and appriciates me all through the Spring and Summer.

  36. The best gift that I have given my mother for mother's day was a beautiful apron. The best part about this apron was that I gave my sister, grandmother, (and myself :) ) the same one. In the card, I gave her a picture of each of us wearing our aprons. Now we always wear them together when we cook!

  40. When I was really young, I made a clay plaque for my mom that says, " I love you Mommy" I was in third grade and I made sure it was her favorite color, purple, and had some of her favorite flowers, tulips, on it. Now, over 15 yrs later, she still has it hanging up by her vanity counter in her bathroom. Thats my mom though, the little things make her happiest. She even called me crying because she was so moved by the flowers I sent her for her birthday earlier this month!

My mom's not a baker but she loves homemade goodies. She also loves flavoured teas and keeps a stash at work for those long days. So for a few mom's days... I would bake her some goodies, throw in a couple of Gourmet teas and pick up some fresh flowers. Last year, before we moved away... I took her out for High Tea.

  51. My mum and I travel a lot together. Our favourite trip was four years ago, when we took a month and backpacked Cambodia and Thailand. I took all our photos and made a scrapbook of this trip. I haven't given it to her yet - it's her gift for this year. But she is going to absolutely LOVE it, and I am beyond excited to see her reaction.

  61. I made a scrapbook for both my mom and mother in law with a picture of each child, in-law and grandchild per page and then each person told one thing they loved about mom/grandmom on their page.

Pretty much my kids only give hugs and loves so far and that is the best I've received.

  62. I think that the best gift that I ever GAVE was a (filled) family photo collage, complete with photos she'd have no way of having - including a photo of her recently deceased mother holding her first grandchild. She and I had had a rocky relationship to that time and I think that it helped to pave the way for the much better one that we enjoy now. :)

My best gift was a day to just lay around and read. With five children there isn't a whole lot of quiet time.
