a bit of a bio :: Gadanke is a handmade book shop of writing prompt journals, minibooks, and love letters. I want to help people create the type of journal that they'll be inspired to write and later, treasure. Materials I use include Italian patterned papers, 100% recycled German papers, pockets, and tags. My husband and I live abroad in a 480 square foot apartment in Berlin, Germany. Celebrate your story! That's our motto - in the shop and in life.
thank you katie! please visit her blog + shop.
congratulations to... tara who commented, As a stay-at-home mom that is constantly cleaning, and re-cleaning, my advise is: do something everyday that can't be undone. i.e. call a friend, read a story to a child, write in your journal. I obviously need help with the writing in journal part, or I wouldn't desperately be wanting these cute journals.
p.s. thank you everyone for joining in on the giveaway series. i am super pleased and am delighted in your comments. i am skipping town soon, but i have one more giveaway scheduled and more mother's day posts in the works for the weekend. and a big tutorial set up for tuesday. tune in..
So pretty!
ReplyDeleteAdvice?
Passion is not expectation. Changed my life!
Everything happens for a reason. Wow. I truly believe this. No matter how hard it is to accept that when something happens, the answer appears at some point to bring peace and closure.
ReplyDeleteI used to live in Berlin, too! And I love this idea. Great shop.
Like yourself. Be kind to yourself. Not in a "I love myself" kind of way, just accept who you are. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are so great! I LOVE that they are ringed instead of bound.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry too much because it all works out in the end.
Sell high, buy low.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to Berlin this summer!
ReplyDeleteMy advice is to wear it like it matches!
wow, this is the first mother's day giveaway that i've entered but i couldn't resist! these journals are inspiring and unique (much like your mini-diaries!) and i'd love to have one, either for myself or to pass on to my mom!
ReplyDeletei don't know if this is advice, but more of an important theme: balance. try to find balance in everything you do. balance between work and home, family and friends, laughter and tears, running around and lounging, junk food and healthy food. balance is the key, i think.
Love these! My bit of advice would be to remember you have what it takes, right here right now to make "IT" happen whatever "IT" is for you!
ReplyDeleteMy advice, that has been working for me real well past year. Those voices that like to tell you that you don't measure up, when you hear them coming tell them they have to leave and then tell yourself that you do measure up. This has done wonders for my attitude and my motivation to do the things I want to do.
ReplyDeleteOoh, these journals are so neat. If I don't win (and I fully expect not to), I think I will fashion one of my own.
ReplyDeleteI think my best advise I could pass on to someone is that you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else. That is, you have to be happy to make others happy.
Happy Mother's Day Marta!

I love the journals - my passion!
ReplyDeleteAdvice: The PAST does not equal the FUTURE!!!
Adore those journals!! And I would have to say..."Be a first rate version of yourself, unique in your own way...one of a kind...you'll find yourself there."
ReplyDeleteLove the journals!
ReplyDeletesince I work at a high school, my advice would be: High School really isn't everything... life still lies ahead!
Oh.... I would also like to add: "It's not all about you." I think there are a lot of teenagers who need to know that their life is not being videotaped and dramatic music isn't playing everytime they have an interaction with another person. Sometimes I swear they are looking for a cameraman or something.
Relish in the Now.
ReplyDeleteThose are so fun!
my advice is to always be patient
ReplyDeletebe intentional about everything you do.
ReplyDeletethese are so super cool!
Be willing to say you're sorry - quickly.
ReplyDeleteTo be aware of your surroundings, your loved ones, to be in the moment!
ReplyDeleteLove the journals!!!
Another great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy advice... believe in yourself and everything is possible.
This is advice I'm trying to follow: don't be so quick to judge and find the positive side of everything/everyone. Not always easy!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.
i love the advice to wear it like it matches! my advice, your friends come to visit you not your clean house.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy advice...enjoy today for you never know what tomorrow will bring
Let go...somethings aren't worth hanging onto
to not take everything SO serious when a teenager...and that family always has your back.
ReplyDeleteI was just looking at Katie's shop last night. How ironic! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteMy piece of advice is: If you want to change your spouse, change yourself.
these are great. My advice is my motto: just roll with it. You can't control so much in life, so you just have to...roll with it!
ReplyDeleteooh i love these!!
ReplyDeleteadvice --- don't skimp on the good toilet paper :)
xoxo,
christen
Beautiful books. I speak German, love Germany, and all things German! :)
ReplyDeleteMy advice is to be grateful for what you have. A little gratitude can go a long way to changing your entire attitude about the life you live!
Genius. Just the type of journal I love!
ReplyDeleteAdvice:
Laugh everyday. It does the soul good.
Love the journals!
ReplyDeleteMy Great Grandma LaRue taught me to record all the funny thing my kids say everyday. So I keep a notebook in the kitchen to help me track the moments of their life. It may not be pretty right now but at least I have the memories.
Live, Laugh, Love, my three favorite words..
ReplyDeleteadvice: Live in the moment, even if it's miserable. It helps to make the sweet moments sweeter and you'll actually have something to remember about life.
ReplyDeletethese journals are awesome!
Be true to you.
ReplyDeleteI love handmade anything, especially books!
Everything seems better after a nap ... or a glass of wine ... or both!
ReplyDeletemaddenmama@gmail.com
huh, here's a simple one: never pass up the chance to use the restroom. You just never know when that opportunity will come again when in a public place.
ReplyDeleteGreat journals.
Nicole
Only be friends with people who make you laugh.
ReplyDeleteTake a deep breath.
ReplyDeleteThis bit of advise works for everyone in any situation, and always makes you slow down and take a moment.

I love those little diaries. Especially the one with the library cards!
ReplyDeleteBest advice I ever got was this (on the first day I was married)... Start as you mean to go on.
Be happy! Don't let little things get you down!
ReplyDeleteFind a learning opportunity in everything. There is always opportunity! And sometimes the ones you have to look for open up far more rewarding paths than the ones opportunities that boldly present themselves.
ReplyDeleteFind joy in every day.
ReplyDeleteCUTE journals!
Best piece of advice I ever received was from my sister in law, who just passed on this past Sunday...
ReplyDelete"no matter how many times you fall down, just pick yourself up and stand tall again"
the same advice we have heard in a number of different formats...just never give up.
Happy Mother's Day to all!
don't be scared to be yourself and do what you love...even if it's not "cool"!
ReplyDeleteTry to enjoy the now more.
ReplyDeleteYou must take care of and love yourself before you can take care of or love anyone else!
ReplyDeleteI'm a writer, so these are perfect for my life! Yes, please enter me for this!
ReplyDeleteAs for the advice-- Never put yourself down (there are enough people in the world who will do that for you!)
I also love - "Leap and the net will appear." Though more of a saying than advice.
Thanks so much for this.
be content with where you are.
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing and so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteBest advice EVER from my mom (in regard to parenting, but useful for life in general).
Maintain your sense of humor.
Can't tell you how many times those words have turned my perception of a situation or event into something much more manageable.
I had to think about this one.
ReplyDeleteGood Advice:
"You can't change other people, you can only change yourself."
Love these journals!
ReplyDeleteMy piece of advice to pass on would be:
"No one can make you happy; only you have the power to do that!"
love all the advice.
ReplyDeletemy mom always tells me: be able to be alone. and be happy. independence and being strong can carry you.
love the journals. so unique!
The best advice was something my mother told me: you are not defined by a number. Everyone places so much importance on weight... and while it's good to be healthy, weight is not the only thing that tells you who you are.
ReplyDeleteSuch cute journals
ReplyDeleteFind your bliss and follow it. When you do, don't let go and make sure you enjoy the ride.
Love what you do and do what you love.
ReplyDelete(and holy hannah I love that journal!)
Pray, Praise and Give Thanks..Everyday.
ReplyDeleteBe generous with praise and miserly with criticism.
ReplyDeleteGreat prizes, thanks so much for the fun giveaways.
A wet pumice stone will clean your oven much better than any oven cleaner. And it doesn't have all the nasty fumes. And it's really not that hard.
ReplyDeleteI love these!
ReplyDeleteAdvice: Kindness is contagious!
indieridge@gmail.com
my advice? would have to be to always, always take time to appreciate the little things in life. (this is such a cool giveaway!)
ReplyDelete--elizabetht
Wow, such great comments. Especially "Wear it like it matches"! This is my new motto!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't take things personally. We're (well, at least I am) so quick to think that the little things that people do or say are meant to be insulting, when it's really not all about you.
just because someone does something different, doesn't make it wrong.
ReplyDeletei had huge issues w the way my husband took care of our infant. so that was the biggest lesson i had to learn. to let go and let him be different than me.
i've been seeing different versions of these journals pop up and i absolutely adore the mismatched paper and thought put into them. so cute. very meaningful give away, too!
In honor of mother's day:
ReplyDelete"There is no way to be a perfect mother but a million ways to be a good one."
I don't know if people would qualify it as advice but I take it that way. It reminds me to do the little things.
Trust your instincts!
ReplyDeleteLove reading all the advice!
ReplyDelete"slow down, cut yourself some slack, Enjoy the journey"
find joy in whatever stage of life you are in. don't say, "i will be happy when..." be happy now.
ReplyDeleteDon't dwell on the past, enjoy the present, and look forward to the future.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the Journey!!!
ReplyDeleteA smile can fix many things.
ReplyDeleteWonderful giveaway, thank you :)
"it's easy to be hard. hard to be light." - from the happiness project
ReplyDeletebeautiful journals!!
ReplyDeleteAdvice:
You can never have too many friends or too many books :)
advice...hmm...
ReplyDeletethere's always a light at the end of the tunnel. if you're down and out, and the going is tough, you just have to keep pushing through, and things will work out in the end.
also, keep a positive attitude. if you keep a positive attitude you can do anything.
Wow I am a journal holic. I literally have like 20 journals that I have in a box that are all filled with writings, pics, etc...
ReplyDeleteAdvice... As a new mother I have learned a lot of things but the most important piece of knowledge is ... get the baby dressed and diaper changed before you do! Otherwise they will pee on your new hot momma outfit and your backup hot momma outfit is always in the wash! :P
My favorite piece of advice is from Abraham Lincoln, "Whatever you are, be a good one"
ReplyDeleteeat your veggies!
ReplyDeletethank you for the chance to win!
Nice. Advice: don't hassle volunteers!
ReplyDeleteAlways remember your audience, whether it is a two year old, a boss, or a person with a different background. They listen as themselves, you will communicate best when you speak to their selves.
ReplyDeletebe patient-- everything will unfold as it is meant to.
ReplyDeleteMy advice...Be Kind to others!
ReplyDeleteLove the books, they are so fun. Would love to have one!
My piece of advise is: Take the time to really study your priorities. Our long term priorities are often sacrificed for our short term priorities. The future isn't always worth sacrificing the present, but at the same time, you'll never get anywhere without some sacrifices!

As a stay-at-home mom that is constantly cleaning, and re-cleaning, my advise is: do something everyday that can't be undone. i.e. call a friend, read a story to a child, write in your journal.

ReplyDeleteMy best advice?
Love God
Love others.
I loooooove her Love Where You Live journals!
ReplyDeleteI wish more people made time for creativity; for so many of us it's not optional, it's part of our quality of life, but yet it always gets pushed to the bottom of the To Do list. So that's my advice--take time to create!!
what a great giveaway! i love learning about creative people all over the world.
ReplyDeleteadvice: everything will work out. don't stress over things you have no control over. do what you can and enjoy this moment because you'll never have it again.
My advice is always to "live in the moment and enjoy the little things -- especially in motherhood."
ReplyDeleteHer shop is beautiful!

"Come what may and love it." -Joseph B. Worthlin
ReplyDeleteAlways say please & thank you and remember the simple act of smiling at someone or just saying hello can have an enormous effect on a person in a wonderful way. It may be just what they needed in that moment. Never underestimate the grace of being kind.
ReplyDeletelove these! they remind me so much of elise's creative genius.
ReplyDeleteadvice: pray about everything, be cheerful, and always be polite. (nice manners and bright smiles will take you a long way.)
I'm terrible with advice, but I try really hard to find the positive out of everything. It really helps to get through things :) Love the journals!
ReplyDeleteNobody's perfect. That's why they put erasers on pencils!
ReplyDeleteBE YOURSELF. Simple but true. Thanks!
ReplyDeletefollow your heart, but take your brain with you.
