a birthday wish

joyfully i've landed on this scanned slide. it speaks volumes of how i feel when surrounded by my family. this shot features the younger half of us: pete, amy, marta (i can barely contain myself) & heidi. pure summertime bliss, skipping barefoot through the lush lawn. i imagine we are running towards my dad who is most likely wearing madras plaid with the camera strap around his neck. my mom is there somewhere, sporting her larger than large sunglasses. oh so young, oh so hip. those were the days.

tomorrow is a special day. it's the day nim was born. {in my fam, i go by min, she goes by nim.} happy happy birthday to my sweet sister amy. you have always been the one i learned everything from. in high school i envied you, in college i was amazed with you, in motherhood i admire you. with your blue eyeliner, big silver hoops, your tight Guess jeans, your ever-growing boy parade, i remember knowing high school was better when lived vicariously through an older sister. you hung your dance pictures with pride and let me try on your fluffy velvet & lace homecoming dress (or did i do that without asking?! with that poofy short skirt and puckered sleeves, it would actually be back in style now). the coolest of the cool. you are always one step ahead of the gang.

thank you for teaching me the important things in life: milli vanilli, driving a stick shift, living in the moment, singing soprano, never giving up, being popular with boys, making peace with those gorgeous curls & embracing your freckles, being constantly cheerful, designing in photoshop & indesign, how to rock the pixie haircut, courageously serving in north carolina, the ins & outs of home decor, practicing a handful of instruments, always welcoming (with the best stocked pantry on the block), treating your little ones like princesses, being such a hot mom who never fails to think of inventive ideas & cute crafts. you are a perfect example for your little ones. you've taught me what it means to be a loyal friend.

you are queen for the day. xo. am glad i have you for my big sis.

That is the cutest picture of us "little kids". Thanks Min! This is going to be a great birthday. All the sistas and lots of cousins will be together for a week.

Cute pictures! I wish little girls still wore those cute bubble suits. Weren't they adorable? (And why do I think there's a sprinkler running off to the side of the photo somewhere?)
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Would you like to be the second person in the Pay It Forward swap? (Kelly, of According to Kelly, is first!) If you would, e-mail me at lufmikidz at aol dot com!
