back 2 blogland

the wonderful thing about this li'l blogland is that you happen upon friends you had no idea existed. you read their words, see their world, view their masterpieces, laugh at their stories, learn their wisdom and you suddenly realize that you two were cut from the same cloth. every morning i turn on my online land and revel. it's a workshop packed full of inspirational (and all-around basically rad) people. i've been affected by not only your talents and your words, but your deeds too. i savor them. you people are so so kind and i am stretching out my little arms to give you hugs.

i realize some of you are what they call lurkers, unknown little betties who read blogs and keep mum. i beg of you, please show yourselves, fess up and introduce yourself. start a blog and let it all out. live out loud. i've heard it said that perhaps you feel you aren't interesting enough, that you have nothing to say, nothing of note. but you are wrong. you are an individual with genuine ideas and words that are worth sharing. you are the only you there is. the only one.

open up and let it out. you won't regret it. speak from the gut and be brave. and if you're nervous, then follow this advice:

"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face... You must do the thing you think you cannot do."
- Eleanor Roosevelt

and no, this is not just for fighting a fear of la blogging. eleanor's advice is also handy for running marathons, killing spiders or baking a double dutch chocolate souffle. do the thing you think you cannot do.

well said, marta. my 11-year-old daughter + i are having a summer challenge to face our fears (inspired by a similar quote to [paraphrased] try something every day that you are afraid of). these have included trying to dive off the dock, trying new food, tackling a writing project, petting a big dog, doing a long bike ride.... the world opens up!

Marta.. I'm totally with you and am so glad someone else understands it too! As you said, it's been wonderful finding people cut out of your same pink polka dot cloth.

I guess I am a lurker, I happened upon your blog months ago, and check in very often, but have yet to leave a comment. Not quite sure we are of the same cloth, but you would so get along with my sis. I look forward to the fun things you will put on, always so cute to look at. I adore your handwriting... Anyhow, no longer a lurker I am.

Well I am a lurker. I have been addicted to reading all these wonderful blogs and getting ideas. My sister and I were on a girls trip with my mom and everywhere we went and everything we ate we joked about what we were going to write about it on our imaginary blogs. I love your blog I find it very inspiring.

A lot of times it seems like you post something I've been thinking about lately! Thanks for your fun posts.

I also always wonder if someday I'll spot you or some other local blogger walking around SLC. Wandering around the library, arts festival, farmer's market, or the Gateway - it could happen!

What a wonderful, inspiring entry. Even for those of us who have blogs and get slightly discouraged after awhile from the silence.

Amen, sista. Very well said. Think I'll try something new this week...(don't know what yet, but I'm going to do it!)

I always see your blog on my related feeds to other blogs I read ... so I added your blog to my bloglines. So I am officially stalking your blog. Great blog.

Hi Marta, I think you are so right about blogland it is exciting and wonderful because you find people who are similar, or different (which can be just as good) and can share your world with them in a way that is a little different to the everyday. I am only quite new to blogging and am loving every minute of it so far! You have a lovely blog.

You took the words out of my mouth...I find myself enthralled by the blogs and the writers I encounter online, particularly some of the amazing women who, as you mention, seem to be cut of the same cloth. Some days, I want to be able to reach out and hug them for they knew just what to say and when...

Marta, a quick request if I may... since I know what a quotey girl you are, any favorites on love and/or marriage? I have a friend getting married this weekend and am dying to find the perfect saying for the gift I am making for her. If you have a moment....

M,
Forgive me, for I have lurked. :)I don't recall how I stumbled upon your lovely blog ages ago, but I check in to see what new things you have for my eyes weekly. But now you have inspired me to create a blog of my own. I am one of those people who feels uninteresting, or at least for a blog anyway. I'm afraid of not having a theme. I am not consistent with anything, art, books, writing, music. It all comes and goes in waves. But...as you and Eleanor say..."do the thing you think you cannot do". :)
Thanks,
Tara S.

After stumbling across a newly formed blog that had linked to me (me?!), I was astonished to find someone who felt the same way I did about so much. So thank you for so perfectly expressing my thoughts as I read her words.

Hi Marta, I am new. I found your blog via a little sussy. I am a lurker usually, though sometimes I get up the nerve to post something. So, I would just like to say hi, and let you know that I am looking forward to getting to know you!

You remind me of "Anne of Green Gables". Writing is so easy for you and you sound so elequent. :) I on the other hand, have an extremely difficult time coming up with the words. Not that I'm "afraid" to be heard, but I have lots of thoughts that I just can't find words for...at least not ones where it sounds like it flows. Your blog is very fun to read. I love your list of 9 things ;)

Thanks for that post. Very uplifting and reminds me why I blog. I love to meet people with similar interests although I do have other reasons for blogging...to keep all of my relatives across the U.S. and, shortly, the World on my life and my family's lives. I also like to make people laugh if I can. Sometimes it's venting to the void and sometimes it's just commenting on things I've encountered or thoughts in my head but enough of my rambling.

Thanks for the post. I've never read your blog before but it looks right up my alley. :)

i totally get this. i've been blogging for the last four years of my life but have been scared to push it out there - for fear of what others might think. i'm currently plunging in and trying new blogger shoes on for size.

i am commenting more.
i am writing more.
i am not scared to tell people that i exist.

2011.

thanks for this post.

I love this. I know you wrote it a few years ago. But I'm printing a copy and taping it by my computer. I've been blogging on and off for a while but a few months ago became much more serious about it. Fear of being myself held me back for a while. Now I'm finally comfortable saying what I really think, and it's a wonderful outlet for me. I love your blog!

Haha, I love this! I'm a semi lurker, I comment every once in awhile and steal links from people {always trying to share my source, of course!} but am always so nervous that people won't like what I am sharing or worse, won't care what I am sharing. But I guess when it comes right down to it, I don't care. I need somewhere to be me, and share the things I enjoy {even if someone else found it first}! I love how encouraging you are, thank you for helping people feel empowered enough to be who they are, loudly!
