sweet mama

{this is a favorite photo of my mom holding her first born baby on Easter morning in 1971.} my mom turns one year older today. yes, it's birthday town this month in my family. like all of you, i can't begin to describe my relationship with my mom. i love her to pieces and i'll take abe lincoln's words, all i am, i owe to my angel mother.

10 things i adore.
01. she is not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside too. she has an incredible gift for self esteem and knows the importance of instilling it in others. one of the best things she has taught me is to love me for me and to never buy clothes in a size i wish i were. learn to love who you are.
02. she reads and reads and reads. has never stopped learning. seizes every moment to understand something new.
03. she is a world wide traveler and is an expert at capturing the essence of a foreign town.
04. she loves details and has a fetish for rich patterns.
05. she is the best grandma, with sidewalk chalk + bubbles in her car at all times. just in case she happens to land at a spontaneous picnic with her grandkids.
05.5. she is always prepared, more so than any boyscout i know.
06. mom will indulge her small daughter by believing in her invisible friends. she still refers to them. she reminds me to scoot over, to this day, to save a place for Gnome, Mannequin & Dough Boy. {'tis true, i had a few extra pals growing up.}
07. mom writes storybooks for her grandkids, emails to her kids, letters to strangers, thank you notes to candidates. she is just so nice.
08. she makes the best red velvet cake in the world. and always lets me make her hot cocoa with a fat scoop of ice cream everytime i get the chance to sleep over in what i like to call the inn. when i go to her home, i feel like a queen in a b+b. it's always the best when i get to sleepover because she is a night owl. and so am i. therefore, we inevitably stay up til the wee hours laughing. i would seal these moments up in a mason jar if i could.
09. mom is the best dressed mom i've ever met. she is a beauty and knows the potential of the right shade of lipstick. yet has always taught me that it won't do any good if i don't show it off with a smile.
10. she appreciates you. will make you feel good + cheer you on. will bring out the best in you. will brag about you. will love you. and will make you laugh.
happy birthday mom.

Happy Birthaday Marta's Mom..

my other favorite Lincoln/Mother quote is:
"I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life."

That must be true. His life was so full of the impossible made possible.
