a day in the life.

the thing about utah is that most winter days i wake up and i look out my bedroom window by bending one of the blinds. it's grey and the snowplows aren't out yet, the clouds are gloomy fluffy duvets, billowing out their snow, and i realize it's gonna take me a half hour longer to get to work. it's slow and cold and getting to my car without slipping on the icy booby trap sidewalk is a feat fit for Indiana. i wonder why i even did my hair because my wool hat is now matting it down. and scraping the windshield and waiting for it to defrost is not something i love doing every morning. therefore i often head out (behind the wheel) with less visibility than really should be allowed. sometimes i even take pictures of the car i'm following.

but somehow during all the traffic the stupid morning radio show makes me smile and the heater finally blows heat at my feet and face and i thankfully get there safe and sound. sometimes the oldies station even plays something rad like my favorite, ain't no mountain high enough and as i'm belting it out i realize my life isn't so bad. then come mid day, i look outside and the world has turned upside down and is giving a huge snowy, sunny smile. the mountains look majestic-like, the buildings all have blankets of white woolly snow and life is good. and you realize there is a silver lining.

and then tomorrow comes. and it starts all over again.

This is really lovely, both the writing and the photos. I am jealous of all that beautiful snow you've got.

I really love that top photo!
I also dread getting out and going in the mornings, walking for 10 minutes in 8-degree weather and balancing on the ice!

I know I keep saying it (and sorry to be so redundant) but I LOVE HOW YOU WRITE! It makes me smile every day. Your imagery is always so beautiful.

feel free to ship some of that snow this-a-way. we've got plenty of cold (i heard 3 degrees tonight) but none of those white sparkles that make it worth it.

I TOTALLY drive with less than reasonable/should not be legally allowed visibility out my windshield every single morning too!

that is how it is for me too! having to be to work by 6am is rough, and it is even harder in the winter time, for those very reasons you mentioned.

but, we do live in an absolutely BEAUTIFUL state. love it!

I start my mornings the same way - peering out the window. I give a "yipee!" at the sight of white! I love Utah. Come rain, snow, or shine!

I just popped over here from Stine's and am so glad I did. It makes me remember the Magic of Ordinary Days....

i love belting out "ain't no mountain high enough"... you should also try dancing while driving... it takes some skill, but it definitely heats things up.

oh, I grumble and mumble every morning when I have to ride my bike to work and it rains!!!
But then I look around and realise that life is beautiful, doesn't matter how much water I have in my shoes :)

Thanks, Marta. I'm so sick of snow I could scream, but you managed to put a happy little spin on it that I'll try to hold on to and remember!
