a legacy of love + inspiration

President Gordon B. Hinckley died at the age of 97 on Sunday evening, surrounded by his family. i am sure he had a glorious reunion with this sweetheart in heaven. he was an amazing man and the prophet of my church. and i loved listening to his words, they were always inspirational, sometimes witty, and unbelievably optimistic. whenever i heard them, i decided to try harder; he made me want to be a better person. he believed in people and continued giving words of motivation to stand a little taller, be a little better. he expressed love and understood how to be genuinely good. he was someone who had a twinkle in his eye and a heart full of joy. i will miss him and his loving face. yet he left a legacy of inspiration and optimism.

i often wrote down his wise words in my sketch books. i have gained so much insight by reading and re-reading his words which been captured in one of my favorite books, Standing for Something.

this is a favorite article that i tore out of the June 2004 Ensign, full of inspirational words by President Hinckley. i am so happy i saved it in my binder collection. you can print out your own copy here. we are so lucky to have his words available to us so readily.

"Cultivate an attitude of happiness. Cultivate a spirit of optimism. Walk with faith, rejoicing in the beauties of nature, in the goodness of those you love, in the testimony which you carry in your heart concerning things divine." - President Hinckley

marta,

i will miss him too, thank you for this beautiful post. it's so lovely to think that he is with his wife, marjorie, but it almost felt like he was going to live forever, the way he traveled and took on life so enthusiastically in his age. (wait, he will live forever, :)
