on the spot • 08

if ever there were a household name in blogland, i assume it would be Oh Happy Day, the blog we love to visit daily. jordan is the brains & the beauty behind this beloved blog and she has willingly accepted my invitation to be put on the spot and answer my questions...

Name: Jordan Ferney
Line of work: Mother, Blogger, Event Planner, Printer

Favorite tool in your studio? The Internet. I love the internet so much. It is the greatest tool for sharing ideas. People who try to "control" the internet always lose {think: AOL}. The secret of the internet is: the more the merrier. Share, share, share. I also love that it is democratizing. It gives the power to the people rather than just a few editors or businesses with money. I could go on and on about this. I love the internet.

Favorite coffee table book? Robert RarkeHarrison's The Architects Brother. It is big and I never get sick of looking at it. It has a permanent place on my ottoman.

Favorite activity on a lazy Saturday? Working on projects with my husband, Paul. Also, taking naps.

Favorite store to spend your dough? Tail of the Yak

A must in your handbag? "Phone, Keys, Wallet" I repeat this every time I leave my apartment so I don't forget them.

An every day ritual? Watching The Daily Show.

A must-see in your town? A picnic from the Ferry Building on Pier 7 at dusk.

Your snapshots are beautiful, what kind of camera do you use? I bought my husband a Canon 30D for Christmas a few years ago, we probably don't need a camera that nice but he uses it in his painting so we justified it.

Your little Moses is darling. What is the best thing about being his mom? He makes my life so much richer. Everything I do is more important now that he is here. And it isn't near as hard as I thought it would be. I guess I had low expectations though.

Words for those of us climbing towards motherhood? Have lots of help at the beginning, even if you think you don't need it. Have low expectations (in a good way.) Most of the people I know who are disappointed by motherhood had high expectations.

You seem to be a music buff, what's playing on your ipod? I used to be sort of hip when it came to music (I thought.) I'm so out of touch now. Some albums I listened to today: Joanna Newsom, Neko Case, Wilco, Elton John, Jeff Buckley, Neil Young, The Killers, The Jayhawks. I want someone to just send me new good music; I don't have time to find it anymore. I wonder if I could pay someone to do that for me?

Do you have a favorite letterpress company? I love the way Bella Figura has set up their business. They have beautiful designs.

What elements make up a perfect party? 1. A Good Invitation to get people excited, 2. The basics covered (like holding it on a convenient day/time, garbage cans, bathrooms, water, seating), and after those are taken care of 3. Something unique or special that people will talk about the next morning.

What elements make up a great invitation? I like an invitation to be a little taste of what the party will be like. It is the single most important thing you can do to get people excited (read: good attendance) about the party.

Your go-to best recipe? I love Schaum Torte it is easy and delicious.

Your go-to best outfit? My black wool sheath dress from J Crew a skinny belt and colorful heels.

Your go-to favorite website, blog and magazine?
Site: Kate Spade, Behind the Curtain
Blog(s): {Frolic} and Black Eiffel
(Frolic because Chelsea has near-identical taste to mine and Black Eiffel because Rachel consistently has original awesome content.)
Magazine: Domino.

Most recent favorite font? I love News Gothic, always have, I think I always will.

Most moving art exhibit (past or present)? I am moved by Cindy Ferguson's religious paper cuts.

What/who is your source of inspiration? I love the little blogging world I feel a part of. But when I'm in a slump nothing gets me inspired like visiting all the wonderful stores and boutiques in the Bay Area. My favorites: Tail of the Yak, Lavish, Miette, Anthropologie, Bellochio, Target, Nest, Paper Source, and Arch.

Inspiring words for aspiring party planners/ mothers / bakers / printers / fashionistas: I'm not sure about inspiring words but things I've learned: Take lots of classes and make friends with people whose skills you want. Be authentic and don't be jealous. Don't be afraid to share ideas and sources. Most of the time its a good thing if people steal your ideas.

Something you always count on... My husband Paul. Since I met him my creative side multiplied by a jillion. He is stable and calm and talented and is perfect to me.

Makes you happy... My baby Moses, Paul Ferney, a sunny day, and treats from La Boulange.

thank you, jordan for letting me put you on the spot. on behalf of blogland, we appreciate the constant cluster of inspiration and the flow of fabulous ideas. you are one talented lady! jordan's distinct style and cheerful outlook is refreshing! visiting her blog makes for a happy day.

I love Jordan. So much so that I actually carry around her business card in my purse so when I'm feeling for my credit card I always come across it and go "What the hell? Oh...Jordan." And then I smile.

I've revealed too much.
