giveaway: gocco print cards

unique designs are always on my radar. these neat note cards caught me off guard with their quirky illustrations and fun vintage sketches. it is not every day you come across a greeting card featuring an old sewing machine or vespa scooter, but i know just the people who would smile at the notion. these happy hand printed cards are a fun way to personalize a hello or wish you were here or thinking of you. if i were to receive one, it would be pinned to my bulletin board straight away.

paper + twine will be giving one lucky m.writes reader a set of four notecards. and in honor of dear old dads around the world, the winner gets to choose between the charming tv set or vintage typewriter designs.

simply leave a comment to enter to win. tell me one thing you love about your pops. me? as a young girl, i fell asleep to the sound of my father's fingers tapping on the typewriter. his office was at home, adjacent to my room. hearing the familiar clicks was more than music to my ears, it was a lullaby. it did not occur to me then that he was working late, writing into the night or supporting his wife and seven kids. all i knew was that i felt safe, snuggly and happy and would fall fast asleep before he'd finish his work. life was good. i belonged right there, next to my dad.

comments are open until saturday / june 20 / midnight / mountain time. a random winner will be announced next week.

thank you, casey.

I love that my dad is always so willing to help others, whether it's me, a neighbor, a friend, or a total stranger. And he never makes a big deal out of it, even if it ends up being a huge inconvenience to him. He just smiles and says he's happy to help.

I love my dad because when something is funny he claps instead of laughs because he hates the way his laugh sounds.

His hands. They are huge and rough and calloused from years of working construction and roofing. They are the hands of sacrifice, work and love.

Every-time I visit your blog I find myself bookmarking the awesome things your feature! I just love these cards!

One thing I love about my Dad is that he is almost 50 and says he will be a curmudgeon when he gets older, and he pretends that he will be a big ol' grump, but I know that there is no way that he will actually be a crotchety old man! He has such a soft heart and so much love to give! I am so blessed to be raised in such a loving household!

I love that my dad taught me to love the outdoors. Growing up we were always outside, in the garden, fishing. I still love being outdoors and this year is my first garden on my own and I can thank my dad for green thumb!

Even though I am now 26 years old, my dad still comes to meet me at work and take me out for lunch every week. ;)

My dad was the most amazing man ever - in every sense of the word - gentle, kind, FUNNY, creative, musical, the best COOK, handy (could fix anything), humanitarian . . . and on and on! This was my mentor and best friend!

I grew up with my step Dad from the time I was five. My real Dad was not in my life. He was the best. He loved me and my sister like we were his own and I don't remember calling him anything but Dad.

My Dad has always been a hardworking man, but he always made time for his family. He's a pastor, so he's kind and compassionate. He's always an encouragement to other people. He's always there when you need him.

I love my Dad because he is such a hard worker. he worked as a school teacher while I was growing up so money was always a little tight. He would work long hours shoeing horses at night to make money to pay for the extras.

My Dad is a retired police officer. That means that I got to spend a lot of time with him growing up (he worked shifts and had a lot of off days) Being a shy only child, this was great! We had lots of fun playing tennis and ridding bikes. He was always there for me!

My dad (a pastor) died when I was 18....so he's not around.. BUT I loved that he had his prayer list in his Bible...and we three kids would peek at it once in awhile...thrilled that on that page - he had his family by name at the top of the page. To be prayed for by someone who also takes care of you was awesome.

I'd choose the typewriter card because my mom and I would type up his sermons on an old Selectric (brown) typewriter where you changed fonts by changing the "font ball".

my dad had a goofy way of dancing... still does. and it always cracks me up.

oh my! I think I have to have those cards!

The thing I like most about my dad is that he lets us all make our own choices and decisions. He wants us to experience things the way we should and not get in our way. It's nice.

My Dad's constant whistling - while walking to church, while doing the dishes, while mowing the lawn. He makes the everyday so happy.

He's always shared his love of reading with us... and - go figure - now we [his children] all love to read too!

My dad is the zen master. He has taught us to be in the moment and try and be present in relationship.

Love these cards!

I love how supportive my dad was of my creative (read theatrical) pursuits, rather than telling me it was not a realistic thing to pursue. He just let me love it and get good at it.

My dad is an awesome, charming guy, but the thing I love most about him is his snore. That probably sounds really weird, but it was something I found to be very comforting as a child. If I woke up from a bad dream, or if I wasn't feeling well I could always go and lay in bed with my back to my dad and be lulled back to sleep from the rhythmic sounds of his snoring.

I love what my dad has become to me over the years. He started out as an unknown but constant figure in my life. He was letters and random phone calls from far away places. When he came home from his tours of duty, he was my fight for power in the house. When I left for college, he became my best friend. I now take pride in being the daughter of a man who accomplishes so much - a successful Naval career, a hobby of running marathons and hiking mountains, and a growing testimony. I love my father not only for what he does, but for who he is: my loving dad.

(That can count as one thing, right? ;) )

I love that my dad was a single father to my older brother and I love that my dad wants to be a father figure to everyone in life. He was always supportive of me and my siblings but also our friends. Now I am getting married and he talks to my fiance like he is his own son. He treats my sister-in-law the same way.

I love that my dad's face lights up when he smiles. He has the best sense of humor and loves to tell a good joke.

My dad calls hamburgers "sandwiches." He expects to get a decent sandwich at Wendy's and will pull the bun off to examine it . . . when the two pickles are piled on top of one another . . . he expresses disbelief and says, "they threw it together." He is a man who expects a decent meal from fast food and likes a job well done.

My Dad always instilled in me a sense of self. He made me believe that I could accomplish whatever I set my mind to. He gave me the stars and the dreams to go along with them. How many nights did we spend outside looking up at the Milky Way...

My favorite thing about my dad is his mustache. The few times he's shaved it off, it really bugged me. And I realized it was because his kisses weren't scratchy.

he gives the best advice about job etiquette (and as i am a college intern this is super-important!)

I love my dad's persistence. He never gives up, when he makes up his mind to do something. He will find a way to accomplish it. His perseverance and tenacity is quite amazing.

Although my dad passed away when I was 10 years old, I still remember so many things about him. Mostly, I loved that he gave so much time to my siblings and I. He showed he loved us by the little things: finding pretty rocks at the lake by our house, going on hikes, agreeing to fish with long sticks that we'd found despite the fact that he knew full well it would work. He was a great dad and will forever be in my memory as such. I'm lucky to be his daughter.

My dad was someone who had big heart for those less fortunate. He showed me the importance of remembering where you came from and of giving back.

wow, those are some cute cards.

One of the things i like most about my dad is that he answers any question i have without fail. even if it means making something up just to keep up the pretense we have always had, that he knows everything.

Today, my dad texted me and said i don't have to take the bar exams if it means i'm gonna get sick. he said he is already proud of me as is and i dont have to achieve more. it really sent me to tears. i love my dad so much.

I love my Dad because he's smart, professional, and reserved. Yet whenever he talks about his family, he starts to cry. My dad shows me that it's okay to show that you have a soft spot for the people you love.

i like that my father enjoys making a modest living and leading a modest life. he's definitely the simple, easily contented guy from a small town/village in the countryside (China's, that is). he keeps me grounded whenever i hear him talking to somebody about not wanting too big of a house, or to be making too much money, or all that stuff that's gotten America so poor and broke right now.

for me it's my grandpa. super tall and lean cowboy down to the bone. he owned a store in a small town. he let us hang out by his side all day long and never got tired of us. he answered every question. he hugged after every scrape. he let us play in every nook of that store and at the end of the day we always took home a little brown bag full of candy. his heart was enormous. i miss him.
