pretty porches and other such thoughts

i discovered a slew of front door photos living in my camera this weekend. what that says about me, i don't know. but i couldn't resist. the row of tall sunflowers looming in front of this home looked so abundantly welcoming, if not like characters from alice in wonderland. i doubt i'd be surprised if, in the noonday sun, they lean over and talk to that plastic swan.

i am forever happy when i find myself bored and there is a camera nearby. while dan hopped into a bike shop on saturday, i cruised the street with benji. i flipped a u-turn to snap some shots of the quiet neighborhood and found the charming blue house + ginormous sunflowers. later, i realized why people kept driving towards me with quizzical brows, right in the middle of the road.

it was a one-way street. and i was going the wrong way.
oh, the sacrifices one makes for art.

no bother. today there is bread to bake and letters to write and boys to nap and papers to shuffle and rain to fall and babies to be born. right, megan? am wearing the hooded law school sweatshirt for the first time in a long while. i'll likely be donning this look until march. now that our neighborhood Peach Fest is over, i welcome autumn with open arms.

lots of ideas are brewing for innovating my shop, my blog, my life. will slowly be mixing and matching. and perhaps repainting. i know i really should change my header someday, but we've become too attached. do you have thoughts on making this site better? i'd love to hear your feedback. also, i have big plans for a batch of mini diaries and more custom goods wherein my handwriting will be involved. hooray. i can hardly wait for show n' tell.

I love your site/blog just the way it is. It's classic. Not trendy.
Lovely photos, by the way!

I know some of those places...it's not such a bad place, really...

I would like a calendar for September with your lovely handwriting as the font. Pretty, please?

PS - I gave my first mini-diary as a birthday present and she LOVED it! I, of course, had to pass the praise on to you! You're the best!

It sounds like you are on the horizon of some exciting things...

I like your site-I especially like the right hand side of it. Maybe you could do a little tutorial of how you made those little boxes?

Have a great day!

marta, I love your header! it's what caught my eye long ago as i was surfing the web. I'd be sad to see it go. Anything you come up with will be great, it's your willingness to forge ahead and try new things that's so inspiring

some sunflowers spouted as weeds in our back garden this year. they are the biggest and brightest plant we have. actually, they are killing our poor apple tree because they tower over it, but we can't take them out because they are so cheerful and fun.

Everything you design is lovely and full of hospitality, and I love your blog. I know I'd love any changes, too, but why mess with perfection?

don't even think of changing that header ;)

custom "hadwritten" goods sound dreamy, though! Can't wait to see what your genius thinks up next :)

i love the snake bite and lemon meringue... i hope you've been able to eat there and meander into that fun store... i'll have to go exploring for that sweet sunflower house. i've been thinking since we moved here from utah in march, that it would be a fun venture to start a "fresh in the falls" blog(or something to that effect) featuring all the hot spots in idaho falls... i'm not sure if something like that already exists. even though i have family here, i've had to discover places to shop and eat on my own, and i love little helpful city guides. it would be so fun to collaborate with a fellow idaho gal... if only i knew a hip, artsy chic who would be interested in partnering up on such a project...:)
