behind the scenes
here's a look at what's going on behind the scenes this week.
eating big fat juicy overpriced sweet strawberries.
whipped up this batch of chocolate chip cookies for a group of nine year old girls who crafted around my table. the effort of buying vanilla pudding and real butter was totally worth it. will likely be repeating this recipe on a weekly basis. hilary, thank you for re-introducing me to milk chocolate chips. i love these giant chips. am so over semi-sweet for the moment.
discovered an alternative use for an empty peanut butter jar. the boy could not be more happy about stacking blocks and trains inside, screwing and unscrewing the lid and then pouring the contents out on his lap. oh, the joys of repetition.
making cards by hand is sometimes really fun. everyone i know is having babies these days. spring has sprung, storks are flying.
and.. drum roll please, our new sofa trampoline was delivered! you have no idea how happy i am about this purchase. it's basic and beautiful and comfortable and not too huge and not too small. i feel like goldilocks with such a good find. found it at DownEast Home on super sweet sale. the discounted price means i am okay with unwrapping the plastic and letting our monkey enjoy it (after being thoroughly inspected for smashed cookie crumbs, that is).
more things going on..
it was so warm yesterday i didn't even need a coat. yay.
i have too many good books waiting on the shelf.
made butterscotch blondies for a church party (recipe coming soon).
watched good television. the marriage ref, the office, and project runway.
went to zumba class. my new favorite way to work out & have a good laugh.
am reading comments & emails galore. thank you. hooray for the workshop.

i love that couch! what a great find
I am LOVING that white ruffly pillow on your sofa!
And what is this about milk chocolate instead of dark? Blasphemy!
sounds like a great weekend...thanks for the tips and words from your workshop!
i always love your lists, but especially the ones that freeze your everyday "right now" for forever. you savor every bit of it, and it shows! thanks.
I think that this post was my favorite of the whole workshop... because it really shows how important it is to be true to ourselves at the end of the day. and in the middle. and at the start.
I grew up not far from where you are, and I'm in Berlin, Germany now. Thank you for giving me a taste of home. I feel like you have an ability to describe my home just as I feel it is from my perspective, too. Thank you for that.
Katie
how funny is the marriage ref? I totally underestimated it at first... it's a fav though. Eva Longoria (sp?) was hilarious!
mmm. guittard milk chocolate chips are my favorite.
the couch is wonderful! isn't it great having a couch you love? it took us so many years to just go out and finally buy *the* couch.
1. Still love semi-sweet over milk chocolate for cookies. Milk chocoalate for bars.
2. Bought my dream couch (denim)which looks almost identical to yours in 1994. It's still going strong, still ultra-comfortable.
3. A great, homemeade toy:save your metal tops from orange juice cans, and take a large container from sourcream or cottage cheese--cut a slot in the lid. Your sweet boy will have fun for hours putting the metal lids in the container and taking them out.
The sofa is gorgeous. And so is the card. I love making cards, too.
Have a wonderful weekend.
I love the couch. Love it! It is a great neutral color and you'll be able to throw red pillows on for Christmas etc. Why didn't anyone tell me that when I bought a denim couch and plaid chair (plaid!) 7 years ago. I might have to make a trip into Down East home and look around. I would love a new couch.
I love the Guittard milk choc chips. I, too, am over semi sweet.
Now I kind of feel like making a batch of cookies...
there goes my diet! I'm gonna have to try the cookies. Could you taste the vanilla pudding mix? Curious as to what effect that gives the cookies...
so glad you are a fan. I grab a bag (or two) and throw them in our cart each shopping trip, just to have some on hand. :)
LOVE the new couch! yay for you!
stop it with your fancy handwriting! it is seriously the cutest thing I have ever seen.....I write like a boy.
Zumba is so fun!! I have never laughed so hard in my life, and never looked so silly....but the best work out!
Those are my favorite too (flavor + brand). Love the pillow. Where did you find it?
you made the vanilla pudding choc chip cookies?! best things ever. i love em with dark choc m&m's
The couch looks perfect. I think the milk chocolate chips will blend in better than dark ones would, so it was probably a timely switch.
new sofa! hooray! it looks practically perfect in every way. what a fun, bouncy, room-changing purchase. i bet it is exciting to see it sitting there when you walk in the door, looking so fresh and new! (benj's hair is getting to be so big-boyish! wow. is that a part i spy?)
easter candy and strawberries.. your house is totally the place to be.
zumba made the local news last night, apparently it is all the rage here. sadly, i forgot to record it. anyway, i was thinking of you! way to get in on the new craze. how i wish there were a ymca around here to offer me a little zumba action.
loving the ruffle pillow!
Those are the best chocolate chips, the only kind I use!
My dad and I are in a constant battle over whether milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips are best. I grew up, left home and started using milk chocolate chips and started loving chocolate and chocolate chip cookies so much more than I did as a kid. Mmmm... now I want to go whip up a batch of cookies.
