sights & sounds of a sister trip

a picture show from our weekend in las vegas.

here is the whole troupe. from left to right: amy, me, heidi, gabi and marty the mom. we were cracking ourselves up the entire trip. no alcohol needed for this crazy bunch. i loved that we couldn't fit in any time to see a movie, read a magazine or watch television. just constant catch-up sessions, motherly advice, and wifely wisdom twenty-four seven. i love whispering into the wee hours like we did when we shared bunkbeds. obviously the art of chit chat runs in the family. however, we did manage to fit in a whole weekend of dreamy activities.

we spent a whole day by the pool at the trump hotel. the blue sky was bliss. there was even a dj to keep us entertained. completely fun and, like dan said, completely glamorous.

we splurged on a bit of shopping. i loved this outdoor mall, the town square. i look forward to going back someday, i didn't see much of it. my favorite store, H&M, always seems to suck me in. no complaints here.

i couldn't believe how much las vegas has changed. yes, it's still living up to its name, sin city. however last time we were there none of the new fancy stuff was built. i was picturing the classic casino type vacation. which would be a bit boring for a group of gals who don't gamble. anyway, i was astounded at the ritzy shops, shows, restaurants and eye candy to discover. and still i love the retro hotels along the strip. i hope that creepy circus clown stays forever.

one night we toured the gardens of the bellagio. the whole place was beautiful. i couldn't get over the upside down floral umbrellas which were hung throughout the lobby. the gardens featured a disney type scene; enormous flower pots, butterflies, bees, ladybugs, rows of tulips and huge watering cans that sprinkled water from the ceiling.

the strip at night reminded me of time square in nyc. we strolled through the paris hotel and enjoyed dining at the bistro, mon ami gabi. especially since it means my friend, gabi.

a pretty party of five. it was fun to doll up for a few days. borrowing clothes, hair stuff and makeup is the point of having sisters.

the awesome fountains at the bellagio. the song they featured was celine dion's my heart will go on. it was a fabulous show, as always. the tune took me back to my high school prom, which launched a hilarious tale to tell.

the fashion show mall was dangerously close to our hotel. i loved seeing the kate spade pinwheel promo in real life.

the sister getaway was over in a blink. now we are all back to running our homes and getting caught up in regular life. i admit to looking a lot less glamorous today in my hoodie and yoga pants. still, i am feeling rejuvenated, sunny and glamorous on the insides. to take time out for yourself has a great effect.

it's so good to stop awhile and remember that before i was a mom, before i was a wife, before i was a bride or a college student or a high school grad, i was a baby sister. i became a daughter the minute i was born. i was bundled up and brought home from the hospital to six overjoyed siblings. the essence of me lies within them. it's nice to remember my roots and what i can still learn from my big sisters. they are happy with life and have been there, done that and continue to grow and learn in strength. a bit of girl power rubbed off on me. as you can imagine, just being together was my favorite part of all.

Fun photos! Looks like a great trip! My sisters and mom all live in MI, and I'm in NM, so we don't often get time together(well, I don't, anyway- they all live very nearby!), and I do miss it. Luckily, my sisters both came out in Oct for a long weekend, and it was GREAT!

As a woman with no sisters (and a love of sitting by the pool all day), I am slightly jealous of this fabulous trip! Glad you guys remember to enjoy each others' company and have fun together from time to time!

hey miss marta, I happened to be in vegas this past weekend too. Too bad we didn't bump into eachother. I always enjoy your cute blog. And highshool prom...memories.

Your last paragraph says it so well. That's how I feel when I get together with my sisters, and when I'm the mom and my daughters and I do our "sisters' weekend."

What a beautiful post. You are very blessed! I too grew up in a family of seven kids. I loved this line so much: the essence of me lies within them. How very true! Makes me miss my siblings :)

oh sweet girlie getaway! i am smitten with these glam snapshots, marta. what a fun crew. you guys are so cute with your shades and shopping and barefoot on the bed! oh, and i totally get the no-tv thing. who has time for anything but talk when you're with sisters and mom?!

kate spade.. you luckie! those pinwheels are so ultra famous right now. and that pool looks like pure bliss.

(oh i'm so glad you really got to see the fountain. at night. perfect! i will live through you for now.)

ps. i know you can rock the yoga pants.

Oh how fun. I must say I am jealous you have sisters to do that with! I have one sister but she lives in NC. Needless to say I don't see her often.

Yay for you!

You have inspired me and my sister - we are going to start this next year. What do you do when you have ity-bity babies or pregnant girls?

Yay! I was excited for this post. Love the pictures. And it sounds like you guys had a blast.

There's something so decadent and necessary about getting away and having "you time" every once in a while. And when you're surrounded with your girls, it's even more special.

Thanks for the virtual trip to Vegas!

Looks like a perfect girls weekend out in LV. I totally wanna do that with my sister when we won't see each other daily anymore.

What a fabulous weekend. Looking at your photos makes me happy. You can just feel the love! I think it's so important to make time for your siblings after you're all grow up and have families of your own. It can be challenging to make it work but you just have to make it happen!

Sisters are the best. What a cute bunch you are. I feel like I know Gabi from reading her blog and I already knew the rest of you. I bet you had a blast. I'm glad you got away!

I am so envious! I have 5 sisters and we have never taken a vacation together. Two of them live in different states and we are all at different stages in our lives. There is a 16 year age difference between my youngest sister and me. So while I am enjoying grandchildren she is a stay at home mom with little ones. Maybe some day we'll be as lucky as your bunch.

I have to say that my favorite thing about living in Sin City is that there is an H&M... is that sad? Now if they could just get IKEA here I might be content to stay here for a while. A girls weekend sounds so nice! Now that my sisters are starting to become adults we might have to do something like this...

That's so funny you took a picture outside of H&M. I guess I take it for granted. It is my favorite store ever though so I totally understand.
