favorites: kitchen tools

favorite kitchen tools

  • small williams-sonoma rubber spatulas (perfect for everything)
  • pyrex measuring pitchers (these are a staple around here)
  • mini whisks (awesome for brownie and muffin batter)
  • lemon squeezer (i use this way more than i ever thought i might)
  • garlic crusher (this one is amazing. thank you, david.)
  • stainless steel measuring cups (may as well splurge on the good kind so the measurements never rub off; however benji adores my retired plastic ones)
  • cookie spatula (sturdy and thin enough for the most fragile sugar cookie)
  • vegetable palm peeler by chef'n (way better than my rusty swivel version)
  • slotted wooden spoon (this goes without saying)
  • three cookie sheets (i hate scrubbing them, but love having more than two for big batches)
  • large container of cookie cutters (my mom gave me an assorted collection when i got married. it's such a great gift idea to a young bride who assumes her days will be full of cookie making and frosting and sprinkling)
  • hand egg beater (i feel like a legit housewife with this hand-me-down in my drawer)

now you tell me, what's your favorite kitchen tool?

It has to be my mini Delia Smith chopper - great for many, many things from chopping onions to grating cheese.

I went to a random Pampered Chef party and bought this little Food Chopper. I've used it for nuts, veggies, bacon for salad, etc. And it's super easy to clean.

I have a serious addiction to kitchen utensils, it borderlines an illness! Williams and Sonoma is my fave, and then I like to wander the kitchen isles at ross, tjmax they always have something I just have to have.

I had to think long and hard about this, but I have to say my favorite would be the little scraper that comes with your pampered Chef cooking stones. They work great for everything. When there is stuff stuck on your counter they scrape it right off, I carry it while I am mopping to scrape off the "mystery" things on the floor.

You can buy them separate, here is a link ;)

and no, I am not a pampered chef gal, but I love 'em!

Pampered Chef's ice cream dipper. I use it often and it's the first thing I brag about to anyone new to my kitchen!

My Santoku knife set and my oxo wisk are my two favorite items. I believe in keeping it simple in the kitchen, so I don't have a ton of gadgets. Your peeler is intriguing, though!

I'm a kitchen gadget girl and my latest discovery is using my zester/parm grater for mincing garlic. It's turned garlic prep into a good time for me.

And Marta, if I could endorse anything on HSN in would be my chaco flip flops. Your post yesterday was like finding a friend in a secret club. I have a hard time convincing people its work the $50, but I've had mine for five seasons now, and I'm never going back...

My favorite tool? Hm, hard question. A sharp knife to cut up everything for my current favorite food - mango salsa. I use your recipe by the way.

Anyone have a cherry pitter? With all of the delicious fresh cherries available right now, I'm thinking of buying one and making it my new favorite tool :)

I was just thinking to myself yesterday how I love, love, love my palm veggie peeler. I love it so much so that I wonder how anyone could ever live without one. too funny.

I have and love some similar things as you. I told my husband for our anniversary I want a mini whisk (for salad dressings, and a few eggs). I might add the mini spatula.
I love my microplane and use it more than I ever thought (fresh nutmeg - you will never go back!).

I love my Williams-Sonoma spoonula (1/2 spoon, 1/2 spatula)... I use it all the time. The other tool I can't live without is my very sharp Santoku knife (very sharp being the important part).

if you still dont have a Microplane grater or zester I dare you to try them, you will never go back, I promise hahahaha

I have one coarse (for cheese- you will not believe how easy it is to grate parmesan) and one zester (fine) not only for zest but for ginger or garlic. They are just so much better than regular ones. Plus you can read the story of how this woman was fed up of graters and found a new use for these Microplane (originally woodworking tools) here

The kitchen tools that I'm obsessed with are these Rachael Ray flippers that I got for a wedding shower, my microplane, and my Santoku knives.

Thanks for all the great ideas.

my favorite Kitchen tool is good quality knives. I am by no means a professional chef, or do I have incredible cutting skills. But whenever I visit somewhere that doesn't have good knives I miss mine. I take them when we go cottaging, camping, and visiting the "in-laws"

my wooden paddle "spoon" - perfect for sauteeing ground beef, stirring a stir fry, etc. Love it!

I LOVE the williams sonoma spatula. I'm a spatula snob...that's the only kind I like.

after making several batches of your limeade this weekend, i could definitely use a juicer! my favorite kitchen gadget is probably my silicone spatula. it makes just about anything easier.

i never knew how great sharp knives were until I got a set when I got married! wow, what a difference. i also love my garlic press (who knew i would use it at much as i do, along with my lemon and lime juicer) and rubber spatulas -- you can never have enough.
