a load of love

we are home sweet home! i am reminding myself that the pain and process of unpacking and putting away is a small price to pay for a winter weekend getaway. thanksgiving was fantastic. how was yours? we snuggled up in a cozy cabin in sun valley, idaho all weekend. a tradition i gladly adopted when marrying into dan's family. this trip there was tons of fresh snow for sledding and tromping through. the twinkle lights on the pine trees made the town look so festive.

i must admit, it is pretty awesome to be sequestered away and completely unplugged for awhile. (i have a billion blogs to catch up on. of course, i am thinking i need to whittle down my google reader for a calmer christmas season. over the weekend we had a light discussion about social networking; the good, the bad, the ugly. decided to have a closer look at which blogs i read and why.)

we did crafts together (mini m&m dipped caramel chocolate apples!), played fox and geese in a sparkling field, went shopping with the girls (ornaments and scarves were the big thing this season), watched movies, played apples to apples and learned a crazy fun card game called nertz (which i'm really bad at). i took a hundred photos and made a load of memories. life is so good. i truly have so much to be thankful for.

am feeling almost ready to officially prepare for the magical christmas season. am promising myself to get all unpacked and cleaned up before any decorations go up. it will be good motivation to get things rolling around here this week. happy november wrap-up to you, too.

p.s. thank you to those of you who enjoyed my thanksgiving download! i was shocked to see more than 300 downloads. hooray. i plan on whipping up a dollar december download soon.

p.p.s. tuesday a crafty wreath tutorial will debut, you won't want to miss it.

p.p.s.s. another topic of discussion: bangs. am highly considering them. please advise.

currently playing: Oak Ridge Boys / It Is His Birthday

I have *never* met another person who played fox and geese!!! My mom taught my sisters and I when we were small and we'd play all winter long. :-)

Glad you had a great Thanksgiving!

Sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. As for bangs, I ended up just getting side swept bangs as a test. I like them & don't feel the need for straight across ones. I think they are an easy change. Nothing too dramatic/crazy and they grow out fast if you decide after all that it wasn't the right decision. So after all that, yes, go for it!

I LOOOOVe Sun Valley. I bet it is so festive this time of year.

Your little bear in the laundry basket is adorable. I just folded two baskets of clean laundry that have been in my hall all week. I'm now starting the laundry process again. ug.

As for bangs. I love them. I think the straight across ones are super sassy but I think the trick is to have them thick and pretty long. I still don't have the guts to do those kind--mine are side swept. I had bangs well into my married life and my husband begs me to never bring them back.

On the drive home tonight I was contemplating my reader and how it needed to be thinned out a bit. I was even writing a post about it in my mind. Did you read my mind?

About bangs: I have much to say. I would recommend emailing me so we can discuss them in depth. :)

I came back to say I love the Oak Ridge Boys. Like so much. I think we are soul mates just because of that.

What a great picture of the little man.I am so glad you had a great time with your family Marta. And I too, have been thinking about whittling down my google reader. I a an overachiever when it comes to following the beautiful world of blogs but you tried "feedly" yet? It turns reader into a magazine. I'm loving the format. I lighten the load about every three months. Just like magazines, no need to read them ALL right?! You're still on the top of my list after three years. And for that I'm thankful:)

I am glad to hear you had a fabulous Thanksgiving - always love it when you are able to say that a celebration is full of memories, I think that is the true sign of a good time.

Seems yours, Miranda's and my own brains think alike and I am thinking of thinning my reader too!

PS: Think your washing machine might not cope with that full load! ;)

So glad you had a great Thanksgiving. It is always a big trial when you get home and realize all the work that it takes to get back to normal (whatever that is.)
We miss you while you were gone. Have great time with that little one. He is so cute in the picture. Give him a love from us.

I'm so glad you had a good time! I've yet to visit Sun Valley. (Not sure why. My in-laws aren't far away.) It is on my to-visit list. What a fun tradition.

Bangs. I have a love/hate relationship with them. They were fun, but they take a lot of maintenance. Which is why mine are in the process of growing out. I think I will always have the side-swept variety, but the blunt-bangs only lasted 4 months. You, however, may be the more on-top of maintenance kind of girl. I think they would look darling on you.

And holy downloads, Marta! I was one of the 300!

ohh you have more self-control than me, my friend. my wreaths are strung up and the tree is lit, but i still have a laundry basket waiting to be unpacked upstairs! (out of sight, out of mind.)

nertz!! (or dutch blitz, as i first learned it.) i, too, am no good. i'm never fast enough. but i love it!

i'm a huge fan of the swoop bang. i think you could totally work it, marta.

so happy to hear the story of your dreamy holiday!

that game of nertz....that was the official game of my parents and their friends in the 60's/70's. i learned to play it at a very early age and now is one that is a favorite in our circle of friends. it can get a bit out of hand though so be careful!

A big fat YES to the bangs! I have so much love for the fringe I think I will have to go into it via an email instead, so keep an eye out tonight (b/c I'm sure that's what you want to do most is wait for my emails!).
Suffice it to say, if you are even remotely considering going the freaky fringe way (as Pa Ingalls would call them), then it is a must do for so many reasons!
Ps. Love nerts! How have we never played this at a family party? We will have to remedy that mistake soon.

Normally, I am not a commenter... but, I finally took the plunge with "adult bangs" about a year ago, and I love them. I had the big "what was I thinking" pouf of bangs for about 20 minutes in high school and swore I would never cut bangs again. But, I am a convert with the side swept look.

I just took the plunge and had my hairdresser give me bangs. I love them and dont know why I avoided them so long. I had terrible bangs as a kid, but I love what I've got now. Don't be scared!
