i'm lookin out for a hero..

okay, here's the 411. i need ideas. and quick. the halloween party is tomorrow night. and i haven't much time, given tonight i'm hosting a (hopefully fabulous version of) our bookclub meeting, watching the office, and all that thursday jazz.

so i need a costume. by tomorrow. cheap, amazing, jaw-droppingly lovely, witty, clever, easy-to-pull together etc. you get the drift. there is just one catch: i have to come as 'my hero'. {i realize this is too much to ask.} but, any ideas? there is a prize if i end up dressing as the hero you suggest.

How about a child's hero?? Think tooth fairy...old bridesmaid dress, tiara with toothbrushes and dental floss woven in, a wand and voila! I wore this once and my second grade class thought I REALLY was the tooth fairy...for an instant.

I forgot that we have to dress up like our hero... pete and I have nothing to dress up as! we'll have to start getting slightly creative for this one! can I steal fabulously cute clothes from your closet and just come as the cute marta???

what about dressing up as dan? hat, stupple on beard with liquid shadow, his law school bag, 70s inspired tops. you've already got the garb. (and i know you can pull out some mean neil diamond, i'm just sayin')

Hmm, it's a little hard to try and choose a hero for someone else.

Do you have access to the following items- white button down shirt, khaki pants, vest, tie, ked-like tennies? That creates a one of a kind Annie Hall/ Diane Keaton costume. You can probably get by without the vest and wearing some simple monochromatic flats.

I like thinking up costumes, so if I think of anything else I'll come back

i once dress as Stupendous Man (http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/1961/ch_stup_89.html) for a superhero party. it's not exactly sexy but quite easy to pull together... you can even have your own Hobbes...

Marta, I say you go with someone who was always impeccably dressed. Those type of people seriously are my heroes. I mean, how do they do it? Day in and day out?

Such an easy costume...little black dress, black heels, diamond earrings, small clutch, large black sunglasses, hair swept up, top it off with a tiny tiara.

You could be anyone...Princess Grace, Coco Chanel, Holly Golightly, (all classic, all timeless, all with wardrobes I'd cut off my pinkie toe for). The possibilities are endless.

If that doesn't work out, you could always go as Elvis (I have killer his and her costumes), Oprah (go tanning/sunless tanner, get a wig and a microphone), or what about a lead character from one of your fav broadway shows? I know you've got loads of those.

OK, I'm done.

One more idea.
Two words: Wonder Woman.
Probably the most amazing super hero EVER.

we all love superheros here. a few we've done in the past random man (prepared for any situation). all black and full of colorful accessories for any situation. x-girl (not sure what her power was). all black (again) x applique on shirt. red cape and blue wig. my personal favorite (duct tape girl). black, red, and white duct tape (home depot paint section). old larger t-shirt, cardboard inserted to make stiff while applying duct tape. we also did a cape with fabric. glasses with lens popped wrapped in duct tape. good luck! have fun!

Martha has some cute costumes that look whip-up-able made completely out of items from the supermarket. Maybe you'll find something here:

Maybe an alternative "super" hero like Sydney Bristow in Alias. Pink wig, snazzy makeup and some leather/pleather and some kick ass boots? So, maybe it is really my dream hero, but just another idea to toss out there.

Dang, Anna stole my answer. Audrey, of course. Or your favorite oldest sister...just wear some mom jeans and some big fluffy hair.

I saw the funniest costume the other day and I am dying to use it. You would need another couple.

Dress your husband or the other guy as a polygamist and then the rest of you be polygamist wives, you know with jeans under your skirts and french braids and stuff. Then get some baby dolls and attach them to you.

The wives could be the heros for putting up with those creepy guys.

How about Wonder Woman? Not the glorified bathing suit wearing one, but maybe dress as a female executive, mommy, crafter, blogger and writer. Like I am Wonder Woman as I can have it all.

The costume is in your closet and you would only have to add props...a blackberry, a briefcase, grocery bag, pad and pencil, glasses, etc.

You could put a large WW on your chest or back, too.

how about pam? {from the office}

a cardigan, a plain skirt or slacks, nylons, and crimpy hair. ha.

can't wait to see what you'd choose. you know i'd go as you.

I'm pretty quirky, so if I were you and loved writing as much as you, I'd dress up as Ladislas Biro (http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventions/ballpen.htm) inventor of the ball point pen, or whomever invented the moleskine.

But geekiness aside, you simply must be Audrey. With long filtered ciggy and black dress and pearls.
