from the heart.

am still in love. with life. not that my life is glamorous or easy. but because it is so full of itty things that make me happy. i love to step back and view it and realize how life is going to flitter by before i know it. and someday i'll look back on these days. in this current stage, my life is full of obligations and deadlines and hectic schedules with not enough time to lounge around, socialize or do laundry. but instead, i must remind myself that it won't always be like this. life changes and places change and stages roll like addresses on a rolodex. i have to enjoy it. right now. because life is so good. am in love with it. life isn't worth living if you're not enjoying it. if you're not loving life, you need to change it in a way that you do love life. because you are in control of your life. you cannot necessarily control what is in front of you or what your situation may be. but you can control how you feel about it. you can control your attitude towards it. this has been my goal for the last little while. instead of wishing for more time together with dan, or more free time to organize my closets, or more time to make recipes from scratch, i realize i must see the things i do have. the things that are constant. the things that are right now. the things that are meaningful. the gifts i get each day. that i love. the life i lead is blessed. a very charmed life. i am a lucky girl. i have beautiful family, on all sides. i live in a gorgeous city. i work long days at a job i love. i have the opportunity to support my little family. i have the enthusiasm (and time) to create lots of little details with my own two hands. i have siblings who are so supportive and awesome and read my blog and love me just the way i am. i have nieces and nephews who i adore and think are the coolest people on earth. i have parents who think i'm the jam and applaud who i am. i have buckets of warm water whenever i want it. i have clients who care. i have a car that works. i have a parking spot downtown. my dan is the best thing i've ever met. the christmas spirit is cheering souls around the world. the holidays are the time i catch up with cousins and get all dolled up. i love seeing old friends and promising to be together more often. it's time for sharing and giving and loving and laughing. i love life. especially during the holidays.

beautifully written, as always. my "a-ha" moment came when i found myself dwelling on the one missing thing in my almost-perfect life. of course, while mulling things, i thought "i have so much to be grateful for - how can i even fuss about this." and it reminded me how important it is to count our blessings. they are what God gives us to remind us that he's there. to remind us to keep the faith.

I was just sitting here feeling sorry for myself that I am sitting at home on a friday night studying for my finals. I said, check martas blog...she may cheer you up and just like that you had words of inspiration to snap me out of it and make me realize that even the tough times (hello, will grad school ever end?)should be celebrated.

Thanks M!

Really, this is so beautifully written. What a great reminder, we ARE in control of how we feel about life. Thanks Marta!

This is so how I've been feeling lately, Marta! I have hard moments, but in the overall picture, life is too good to complain about. Life truly is too fantastic to focus on the unfortunate happenings. I'm all about the glass half full theory. Hoorah for happiness!

I remember thinking "I will be happy when I'm married," or "when we have two cars" or "when I have a washer and dryer" or "when I have kids" or "when the kids go to school" or, or, or...

You are so wise to find happiness in the every day, because that's really what it's all about. We DO get to create the world we live in by choosing our attitude.
