notes to self: life lessons

winter weekend recap

01. my darling nephew turned three therefore a saturday sledding adventure was in store. fittingly the birthday boy wore his cowboy boots and hat. it was a splendid party.

02. the night before, for girls night, i enjoyed lemon & basil spaghetti at the paris bistro with my mom. with red velvet cupcakes for appetizers from so cupcake, a li'l new bakery shop. we watched when harry met sally and discussed everything from a to z.

03. played with my nieces, a big lab named moses, and hung out with friends. we tried this great local yogurt stop. saturday night the place was full of high school kids and enough toppings to make a pregnant girl giddy.

04. went to church and listened. decided i have to make more moments of calm. there is plenty of happy noise around me 24/7 in life. am happy when thoughts roll and i realize i am all peace inside. need to make those times happen more often. in my high school creative writing class, we had the assignment to take 30 minutes every day to be alone, to be quiet and to take our sketch book with us. she liked us to be out in nature. i thought this was because she was sort of a bizarre bird-loving hippie. now i realize she was trying to teach us the importance of paying attention to our thoughts. by blocking everything else out. i yearn to fulfill her assignment these days, but life wraps me up and there are the dishes, work, sleep, laziness, and exercise and scurrying about. dan often laughs at me because i pick things up and put them down. what he doesn't realize is that this is called 'tidying up'. he rather have me sitting, reading beside him. nowadays i try to realize that simply being beside him is probably better than lifting a finger.

05. which is why when dan wanted to go on a walk this afternoon, i said yes. although there was an inner pull that i should have been baking the rolls and prepping the salad. but we went together. and i'm so glad. i think it's one of those walks i will remember for a long time. we walked up a big hill. the threatening grey clouds that we imagined would 'pass' suddenly started dumping water on us. dan and i were suddenly soaked and still blocks away from our house. we were wearing our rain jackets thankfully and our hoods kept us warm. these are the moments wherein you realize you're really glad you married the person you did. because he just gets you. and you are laughing out loud and it's super fun and you can't believe you've been married for six long years. because this kinda feels like your fourth or fifth date. but it's better. because i know him so well that i know when we get home he'll untie my wet shoes and put me in front of the heater while he makes the salad and i warm up. because he totally takes care of me like that. this is why you should say yes when someone asks you to go on a walk and you think maybe you shouldn't. because in life it is better to be together. and try to make the other person happy. and then by doing so, you'll end up happier too. and life is good. and there should be oscars for regular people doing regular things like untying wet shoelaces for their wives.

06. after settling in, i clapped when Once 'falling slowly' won an oscar. they so so so deserved it. love them. loved Enchanted too, but the underdogs should always get a chance in the sun.

hooray for weekends. it was one i will hope to rewind someday.

photos thanks to david.

Sounds so fun--especially the cupcake part. I've been there probably 7 times since she opened her doors a few weeks ago. Love those goodies Natalie cooks up! P.s. Don't you love how going to church clears things up a bit? By the way, congrats on the baby...and did I read a move is on the way or am i mistaken?

Thank you for sharing that glimpse into your weekend, especially the walk in the rain. Just lovely and such a good reminder to say "yes" in life, to all of it.

And YAY! "Falling Softly" won and smart Jon Stewart even brought Marketa back out to speak:-) Best moment of the night.

I accidently ate the rest of your spaghetti and the red velvet cupcake you left here. But I thought of you the whole time.

I, too, did a happy dance when 'Once' took Oscar to bed. It's such a lovely song. I was surprised by a lot of today's winners!

I'm glad you took that walk. We all need to be spontaneous enough to act when a potential "moment" presents itself.

You new hair color is so pretty.

I liked that song too and was glad they won and glad that they let that girl come back out and say thank you because her speech was the best anyway. :)

there's also a new cupcake place downtown called mini's (on 8th s). It's also great. AND there's a new yogurt place downtown that's WONDERFUL, called Spoon Me (on 4th south). just thought you'd like to know.

It's also reassuring that your (and I hope many others) are so in love. thanks for that.

Your life is so fun sounding.
And I totally don't mean to be rude; but it seems like all the blogs out there (and they are amazing) are written by Mormons. I have wondered why that is.
Do you think you could do a post on what you all generally believe etc. because I am curious and I feel like a lot of misconceptions exist (are yall's services really 4 hours long?!) Anyways, that would be great.

Who is the lady in the black on the sled in the front right corner of the picture with Daniel and Marta in the back, upper left? If the gold pistol hottie is unavailable, she's next in line.
