pretty vs. cheap

i am a sucker for articles like this one seen today on Who What Wear Daily. i love hearing about which cheapies the expert stylists are telling me are good enough to buy. please note, White Rain did not make the cut.

dan told me the other day that i am a marketing wizard's dream come true. because somedays i will buy an item solely on the beauty of it's packaging. i know, i know. but soap is just soap no matter what the packaging, therefore the prettier kind just makes me more happy. so sue me. i mean if i'm gonna use it every darn day, it might as well be pretty. agreed? so tell me, what's your favorite daily product; pretty or plain?

Method hand soap at Target.. I just love the tear drop shap of the bottles and the pretty colors. :)

um well i must say that i want to buy things solely for the packaging as well.

There's this type of chocolate in the candy isle that Target sells and I always want to buy it.

Here's the real kicker: I HATE CHOCOLATE! hahahaha
So I'm right there with ya sister. lol

I am so cheap on some things, but waste inordinate amount of money on silly things for the scent and packaging. I love Tocca candles ( which run $36 each ) and overpriced hand soaps always suck me in too!! But then I use 99 cent V05 shampoo LOL I guess it all evens out!!

burts bees lemon cuticle cream, dove moisurizer, restoration hardware unscented no-crack handcream. It comes in a plain tub with black text. I love the pkg as much as the cream. I think I like Izze soda mostly because they are brightly colored and bottled so fun!

where do you find this stuff?
you are my *encyclopedia* of sorts.
cracked me up - white rain.
i know the brand.
did it not make your list, or theirs?

pretty + plain.
i'm with you on the soap.
ingredients matter to me.
clean + pure = what i like.
a good clean daily face wash, body wash, moisturiser and lip balm make me uber happy.
hooray for Aveeno, Oil of Olay and my biggest crush ~ philosophy.
makes my skin ever so content.
xo

I like the look of the Aveeno products, very earthy colors that draw me in.

I always say I totally judge a book by its cover (literally with books) but with everything else as well. If it appeals to my eyes, I like it.

My husband is often known to watch a commercial for food and immediately say, "I could really go for a ... right now" about whatever food he just saw. A dream come true for advertisers.

Smith's Rosebud Salve - I have one in practically every corner of my life! The little blue tin with red roses is so sweet...
I've been using a soap for years called Magno which is Spanish & pricey but it smells & looks elegant with its chocolate brown packaging. Sometimes I alternate between that & another brand b/c I'm cheap but I always feel so much better when I use the Magno!

Pretty - always after I read on the label what's inside the packaging. Soap is unfortunately never just soap...

Eucalyptus Spearmint lotion by Bath and Body. I love the smell and the bottle.

I figure if I'm buying it anyway, it might as well be cute. And in case I wasn't going to buy it anyway, cute sells me on it.

OraLabs Chap Ice Regular Lip Balm. I got a tube of this on a transatlantic flight several months ago, and I've been addicted ever since. You can buy it at the drug store for about a buck. It works better than any balms I've tried from Kiehl's, Sephora or C.O. Bigelow. The packaging is NOT cute, but this stuff is amazing. In fact, I'm going to go put some on right now! ;)

OMG! Me too!

I have always said that I am a "sucker for marketing." During the mints in a tin craze I would buy up tins of candy just for the tin... I don't even really like candy.

my little black and white pots of olay daily and night face cream always make me smile...
I recently switched to using a toothbrush and razor made my Preserve - they are made of recycled plastic materials - and are so incredibly cute - green + adorable

i used to work in a little health food store, and the beauty products section took away my paycheck...
i'm silly about packaging too! and i get really upset when someone changes their packaging and it's not as neat - my husband thinks i'm silly.

my fav. daily products are: mychelle pumpkin renew face cream (smells amazing and doesn't make me face burn like most cremes - all natual, hooray! also, the sample sizes come in perfect little tubs that are amazingly cute in a simple way.), and burt's bees classic lip balm. mmm, pepperminty!

I like pretty and plain. Sometimes I'll take the label off, so it will look plain-er. I do not like products that have chemicals (added fake scent grossness), or products that add chemical colorants.
Favorite daily product: anti-aging lip treatment from Garden Botanika.

I definitely buy for packaging, then even after I use it all up I keep the container in hopes of finding something to use it for!

p.s. When's the next swap??
