dinner at the lodge
let's say i was planning to host a new year's eve party. i'd probably host it in a so-called cozy cabin in the mountains (which unbeknownst to my guests would turn out to be one of those mansions on steroids surrounded by nothing but mountains and fresh air and pine trees).
we'd dine on duck and roasted potatoes with rosemary sprigs in a dining hall under a candlelit antler chandelier. we'd laugh at uncle louie's intellectual storytelling and frederick's humorous poetic wit. later, warm bread pudding and mugs of cocoa with peppermint stirring sticks would emerge from the kitchen on fine silver trays after songs have been sung and happy tears have been shed. we would skip charades and opt for stringing cranberries around the roaring fire.
guests would sleep in twin beds piled high with homespun patchwork quilts and awaken to the early morning moon. we'd pull on our boots and crunch onto the glittering snowy path to watch the sunrise. we'd playfully stomp back into the kitchen to hear bacon crackling and maple syrup simmering on the stove for the buckwheat pancakes.
my rosy cheeked friends would go home with a wool blanket with a monogram stitched upon the corner. and it might all begin with these letter pressed invitations by shop parcel.

Sounds delightful! May I come? :)
Please invite me. I'm already packing my imaginary bags!
what a pretty picture you paint. :)
i'm in!
You know, I live in New York City and have no short list of fabulous things I could be doing on New Years Eve. They all involve uncomfortable, amazing shoes and dresses that would make my husband's heart beat faster.
But I think I'd rather come to this party. It sounds wonderful :)
I threaten to stop reading your blog (yeah right) unless you invite me! :) What a pretty picture you've painted in my head!
This type of writing is why I fell head over heels for your blog last year (I think the JCrew holiday piece cemented it, which still makes me laugh when I think about it!)
What a completely enchanting and charming New Year's Eve this would be- it is a party I would most certainly want to attend!! Lovely.
please invite me. That sounds just right to me. OOh how I love your sense of style/sensibilites. I usually lurk but today I am piping up!
Now that's an invite I'd like to receive. Beautiful inspiration.
i like the way you think! this sounds like quite the party.
you had me from "one of those mansions on steroids"
Oh please, can I come?
you could sell anything sweet marta!
i'd buy these if i thought it possible to have a soiree like that.
i like the monogram wooly gift idea.
you are such a great party planner + dreamer of yummy things.
xo
This is why I like your blog. Not only are you a talented designer, and creative & imaginative - you are a great writer. I hope to attend a party like this someday.
You have a gorgeous baby too!
sounds a lot like what I refer to as "jcrew world". Lovely surroundings, pretty clothes, everyone smiling with pretty white teeth and pink cheeks. I've never been to jcrew world, but I hear it's nice there.
