02 December 2008

uh oh, christmas is coming.

the twinkle lights are up, the tree is in the window glistening with tinsel, the festive wreath is on the door, the stockings are hung, the licorice roofed gingerbread house has been frosted, and dazzling red presents are wrapped and ready. seriously.

no, not at my house, but next door.

it's only december second and i'm feeling a little behind. a new Williams Sonoma catalogue has arrived every week in november, reminding me to hurry and buy some of their peppermint bark before i'm the last one on earth to place my order. i haven't unpacked from our thanksgiving weekend yet! the christmas decorations are patiently waiting, packed in storage boxes.

am turning on some Carpenter's Christmas, opening two doors of my advent calendar, making cocoa and decking the halls. i've got to get busy before another catalogue comes in the mail boasting of seasonal nutcracker suite sheets all tucked in.

I can't tell you how happy it makes me to know that I'm not the last person to have her house looking all festive. Our tree, while purchased, is sitting in a bucket of water outside, our ornaments are still packed away all snug + secure (I hope anyway) in their storage box, and the rest of the decorations for both inside and out are stacked neatly in their boxes awaiting attention from my husband and I. Most of our street is already decked out, as are most homes in blogland (or so it seems) and I find myself feeling way behind when just a week ago I felt rather ahead of the game. Whew - what a difference a week can make!

Thank you for making me feel better and I wish you luck getting everything put together. I know, in the end, your house will look amazing and you'll dazzle us with creative holiday ideas (like you always do).

Congrats on your first Christmas as a mom - I just know it will be magical!

p.s. We picked up two boxes of Peppermint Bark the weekend before Christmas - would you like me to send you our extra? I'd hate to think of anyone going through the season without the best holiday treat there is!

we just ordered our tree - we want to do fresh cut, but down here in texas they cost alot more than they did when we lived in wisconsin ($20) so we're doing not real this year. plus that way i don't have to worry about my son eating pine needles when i'm not looking!

i just got my peppermint bark issue in the mail today too-- Carpenter's Christmas sounds so fitting right now! Maybe I will just go over to the itunes store and buy the whole thing after I'm done writing this. Yep. Probably will do just that.

You just had a baby! Don't be hard on yourself. I've been a mother for 7 years, and I think this is the first year I've felt completely on top of things....
Oh, Carpenter's Christmas! That sure makes me think of my childhood. My husband is kind of a music snob, so he sniffs at John Denver, the Carpenter's and other folksy stuff that I grew up on, but it will always have a soft spot in my heart. :)
