ten months

dear benji

before you grow any bigger i must write down all that you are at this moment; full of light and goodness. you emanate innocence and bliss. a darling blog reader emailed me last night and sweetly mentioned you, saying, It's been truly delightful to watch your journey into motherhood and your love affair with Benji grow. she couldn't be more on the dot. having a baby; it's a love affair.

this month you're all over the place, my boy. the most active photo session yet. you've learned to pull up and stand, get to a sitting position all on your own (such a big boy), speed crawl, walk steadily with the help of holding hands with papa, and climb ever so quickly over rough terrain. it's almost as if you set your toys up for a mini obstacle course. luckily the latches are locked and life has been easier knowing poisons are well out of your reach. though you've found the one cabinet that is still easy access. oh how you relish rolling canned goods down the linoleum floor.

you love your teaspoons and tupperware, jabbering little conversations is your pastime and watching me vacuum is still of great intrigue. you reply in mimicking baby talk which thrills me and your pops to no end. you know how to smash finger foods in your mouth too. you're definitely getting the hang of holding your own sippy cup (hooray) and love lazying back in my arms to drink. i love the way you sit upright in my lap, ready for storytime; knowing just how to flip the pages like an expert. and you've recently started immediately rolling onto your tummy when we put you down in your crib, getting in your goodnight position. so sweet, so lovable, so smunchy. your mellow happy disposition makes me glow and i know i had nothing to do with it. you were born to make me glad. we take you to and fro, over the river, through the woods and you are always happy as a li'l lark. thank you mr. cub cub.

this weekend marks a new adventure with you as our favorite pack-along: camping.

Can I just say, I can't get over how absolutely adorable your little boy (your whole family, actually) is! You're part of something that's got me shifting my attitude from "completely terrified of and averse to having kids" to "wanting one of my own someday." And I really love that you write and share these monthly letters to him. I have a handful of similar letters my mom wrote to me as I grew up (more sporadically) and I truly treasure them.

I must squeeze him. I must.

Pray tell, any tips on camping with an infant? I'm anxious to go, but nervous about our little Nanuk. Will he be too cold, too hot, too eaten alive by mosquitos?

What a happy camper! Everytime he saw a camera he posed perfectly. I think you've trained him well.
