giveaway: freshly picked pillow
it seams all the prettiest gifts start and end with a needle and thread. am visualizing a must-learn-to-sew new years resolution on my list in the very near future. and after stumbling onto this awesome blog, said must-have sewing skill is singing to me loud and clear. enter more ruffles. be still my heart.
freshly picked is a small business created by susan. she just may be the hippest mama i've ever landed upon in blogland. i mean, she sews skinny jeans for her toddler, not to mention encourages shiny gold leggings. a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e. susan is known for her fabulous handmade goods seen at local craft fairs. if you live in utah, you can stalk her at the upcoming beehive bazaar, the first weekend of december! a few favorites are her ruffly skirts, velcro wallets, wristlets, baby mocs and adorable throw pillows. i cannot help but keep linking, this girl knows style.
lucky for us, susan is kindly offering one of her famous handmade ruffly pillows for one m.writes reader. you know i want in on this one too. simply leave a comment to enter to win. now tell me, who is your style icon? will be shutting down comments tonight @ bedtime so i can tend to my turkey who will be brining in his bath. therefore hurry up and comment and come back tonight to see if you've won. the random winner will be announced on this post.
congratulations to ashley whose style icon (like many of you) is her dear ol' sis!!
thank you to susan at freshly picked. fyi: susan is currently only selling her items at shows and craft fairs, however if we nag her enough, perhaps we'll see a freshly picked shop online in 2010. here's to hoping.
p.s. this weekend is the last opportunity to order your numbered advent stickers in time to get them by december 1st. i absolutely love melissa's idea of wrapping 25 christmas stories for your little ones to unwrap each night. she does it every year and i think i will too. happy thanksgiving!

So fun! Thanks for the giveaway! Hmm .. style icon .. I'm not sure I have one. I pretty much march to the beat of my own drummer on most things. I take a lot of cues from many of my fave bloggers, including you@
My current style icon has got to be Jenna Lyons! Who I think (based solely on the Dec catalog) would also appreciate these ruffly pillows. They are gorgeous.
(sidenote: My daughters crib bumper was lined with similar ruffles inside, so I think the pillow would feel at home at our place. Wink, wink)
my style icon would have to be my cousin! (does that count?) i would wear just about anything she told me to (except when she tries to put me in dress that come to her knees, but barely cover my...well, what a dress needs to cover) but i love her style.
i love that you are cookin' your turkey! good luck!
I would also say that I don't have a style icon....but all of these amazing women are making me want to change that.
My style icon right now is Rubyellen of the Cakies blog. I just love everything in her house, everything she makes, everything she wears.
Zooey Deschanel. hands down.
Don't have a style icon. If I like it, I like it. And I love those pillows (and everything from Freshly Picked).
Awesome giveaway. I don't have a style icon, but I really need one!
Darling! You held the position of hippiest mama in blogland, but this delightful Susan may have taken your place.
My icon is currently my daughter, 9 months old a few days ago. She is eats only when she's hungry, sleeps when she is tuckered out, and is always in comfy clothes so she can grow! and learn! and squirm! and have fun! That is how I want my days to be.
Happy Thanksgiving. -- lena

Happy Thanksgiving to you Marta. It has been a wonderful month of gratitude over on my blog. Doing this little activity of being grateful for something each day has created in me a more thankful and positive outlook. Thank you for encourage thankfulness as well. I'm ready to go out and make some else's day.
I'm not sure that I have a famous style icon, but I can think of a few friends whom I admire their sense of style and that would be two sisters, Hahanna and Eliza.
how fabulous - that pillow is divinity! style icon would be audrey hepburn, the queen of classy. though a bit more practical for 2009, i would have to choose stacey london from "what not to wear" - she makes fashion so approachable and personal. happy thanksgiving!!
My style icon is anthropologie! From clothes to home decor to window displays, they've always got me enamored and delighted and in dream land.
lovely pillows! My style icon right now would have to be Erin Gates of elementsofstyle.com. Everything from her home to her clothes is just beautiful.
I think my style icon du jour is Jenny at the blog Little Green Notebook - she has a great eye, and she gives me great ideas for decorating our new home. Happy Thanksgiving!
i've been meaning to get a fashion icon, but officially my fashion consultant is my little sister. if i am itching to try a new look, she always hears about it first for approval. gotta stay hip, you know?
i love the idea of wrapping 25 christmas stories. that is a GREAT tradition idea, one i think i shall also take up! thanks and happy brining!
love this!! currently.. my style icon is the blogger elsie flannigan. Love.!
I don't have a style icon, but if I did, I think I'd be like my fearless & beautiful sister-in-law, Nora. Love her style & whimsical dress.
Have a happy Turkey day!
Audrey Hepburn! Her style was casual, elegant & classy.
i'm in love. {with these pillows, of course!}
my style icon? i think my grandma. i love looking at old pictures of her. she had some fantastically unique taste in clothes, shoes and decor. always very classy.
I am pretty much envious of anyone with style, because I seem to have none!
Zooey Deschanel. Her cotton commerical shows off her adorable style. Vintage/hip/girly.
style icon??? if you saw my house you would see i don't have one....but if I had to say one it would be my friend Michel..she has a wonderful flair and makes everything she touches beautiful
My grandma comes to mind, she seems to be the inspiration behind a lot of I do.
a favorite style icon: grace kelly. and what a fun giveaway. and you go girl for doing a whole turkey.
style icon? i am not sure that i have one. i definitely have a taste for j.crew/banana republic/anthropology. if only i had the money to appease my taste...
darling pillow!
oh, i'd love to win!
my style icon lately would have to be zooey deschanel or rachel blison. very cute girls!
Audrey..classic; heidi...what a good looking mama
Interior designer Angie Hranowsky seems to have impeccable design skill that is both fun and sophisticated. I'd just lover for her to do my house!
My cousin Kristin is my style icon. She married into the family and ever since when I am shopping I pause and think, "what would Kristin wear?" I'm still waiting for a bracelet that boldly proclaims this acronym: wwkw.
so cute! i don't really have a style icon, but pick and choose ideas from all over - magazines, the web, friends' houses - i love getting inspired to rearrange and use things i already have in a different way!
oh marta you have out done yourself on this one. i had never heard of freshly picked before, but you better believe she is on my google reader now!
style icon... i am not sure i have one? i agree with many girls who have already commented, if i like it then i like it! my style somewhat zigs zags across the boards.
my new home could use a new stylish pillow. here is hoping!
happy thanksgiving!!
Fashion style icon: Grace Kelly and Rachel Zoe
Decorating style icon:India Hicks and Cath Kidston
Real life style icon: EE (http://tjanderica.blogspot.com)
A style icon--I love Ralph Lauren. Cute pillow!
Oh, I love ruffles! If I don't win, I might have to make myself a pillow like this. Knowing how to sew does come in handy, I actually just turned some old bootcut cords into stylish skinny cords. And went on a pant-hemming extravaganza as well. Now I feel like I have a new wardrobe. My style icon is Anthropologie.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Just gorgeous those ruffles! I am not sure about a style icon - I rely on Boden for my staples and seasons colours but admire Kate Middletons country style really.
Happy Thanksgiving, hope your turkey is enjoying his dip!
xx
I'm not sure I really have a style icon!! I pretty much just do my own thing, and my younger sister keeps me in check!
These pillows are FABULOUS though!!!
Beyond fabulous!
I don't really have a style icon because I really love so many different styles.
Love the pillows! I love anything from Z Gallery or Ballard Design or Pottery Barn! Not necessarily style icons...but some of my favorite design stores for sure!!! :)
These pillows are too cute! Perfect for the guest room over at our house!
I don't really have a style icon persay though...I just buy what I like. So I guess technically everyone and everything influence me! But what it all comes down is will it work for my lifestyle?
hmmm...style icon? i'll have to think awhile on that one. thank you so much for the chance to win. what a lovely collection of goods!
gwaters79(at)gmail(dot)com
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is my style icon. Her clothes work, no matter the decade.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and all of you M.Writes readers!
I wish I could think of a style icon, but I think the world of blogs has given me WAY too much to covet, uh I mean aspire toward. I love so much of the DIY, handmade goodness that can be found on this web!
ruffles? Yes, please.
And you know what, I don't have a style icon. I look to other women in my life and around the web to gain inspiration.
i'm loving those pillows! I sure do love me some ruffles. my style icon most recently is my mom. I couldn't believe how absolutely cute and put together she looked each day she was here while visiting.
I am SO into ruffles right now! One of those pillows would be perfect!!!
My style icon has to be Audrey Hepburn. It will never get classier then her.
ooh this is such an exciting giveaway! nice pillows are way out of my budget these days, so this would be an awesome win for me.
my style icon would probably have to be my cousin natalie. she is tops. dresses, decorates, and is splendid.
I'm not the first to say so, but my style icon is most definitely miss Zooey Deschanel. Gracious, she is gorgeous and funky and artistic and soft in all of the right ways... sometimes I wish I could be her...
I'm loving Kate Hudson right now.
Style Icon: Stacy London. I want her shoes and her hair very badly!
I have to agree with some of the other commenters. I would say my style icon is Stacy London from What Not To Wear. She always has great style and ideas!
I spent the past hour going through her blog page by page. I really want to learn how to use my sewing machine now!!
Style icon(s)... I love Reese Witherspoon and Keri Russell. They both have such effortless style. Gorgeous!
I have to turn to the most classic, and classy, style icon: Audrey Hepburn. I love everything from her hair to her clothes to her shoes to her attitude on life. I wish I could be her....or least dress like her!
What a fun giveaway! I know it seems like a cop out but I don't know who my style icon is. I am a hodge podge of a lot of different styles and designs! I love it all, truthfully!
Oooh, I so have to agree with Audrey Hepburn...classic, clean style! Love her! And love these pillows too! Pick me!! :-)
Wow such a fab givaway. Those pillows are gorgeous. I agree you must try and sew....I am new to it but I love it so much.
As for a style icon, I am stumped.....cannot think of one person at all, sorry!!
My style icon is my girlfriend, Alaina. No matter what time of day or night she is sooo put together even though she's working and in grad school. From ballet slippers with jewels to a huge ornate flower in her hair... she's always got that extra touch!
Fun giveaway! I just love those ruffly pillows.
My style icon lately is Olivia Palermo, that snotty girl from The City. I just can't help it, she is too chic for words.
I can't really say I have *one* style icon. I think I look at different people for different things. I do, however, have a tendency to really look closely at women who can't do it all and aren't going crazy trying. I always seem to be spinning in a million directions and I'm usually pretty tough on myself. I really admire the women who have that sort of "I can't do it all and frankly don't care to" attitude. :)
Hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving! And thanks for the giveaway, ruffles rock!
I have to agree with the gal who said Jenna Lyons; I adore JCrew and the turn they've taken in the last few years, plus Jenna is as tall as I (5'11) and is in charge of their tall line, so we're kindred lanky spirits.
I have wanted one of these forever, and will not be able to make it to the Beehive Bazaar. I would have to say my style icon is the store Anthropologie. They are an icon of themselves, I love it and would spend thousands if I could.
I have fallen in love with her blog! I get some great ideas of things to sew but haven't quite brushed the dust off my sewing machine yet.
My fashion icon is Zooey Deschanel. Do I dress like her? No. Do I wish I could pull what she wears off? YES!! Just need to be daring and burst out of my boring fashion shell.
ohhhhhhhhhh! I read Freshly Picked regularly and am so excited for the chance to win Suz's ruffle pillow! It will go perfectly with my newly painted master bedroom. My style icon...that is tough. I live in Aspen, Colorado, and we get the opportunity to see some of the best fashion, or most "creative" fashion you might ever see. My icon might not even be a person, but the window displays at Theory, Ralph Lauren and Christian Dior...come on, a gal can dream! :)
love love love those pillows, and have been drooling over them since first seeing them over on susan's blog. just gorgeous!
style icon? does my sister count? she spends far more time keeping up to date than I do, so I tend to rely on her to keep me up to speed!
thanks for a great giveaway!
Faithful reader of Su's blog. I want one of these pillows! I will def make some skinny jeans for my baby boy...if my husband lets me.
oh dear... style icon? that's a tough one! I would have to say my fave bloggers... also loving stacy london.
my style icon would have to be my friend Laura. she is so very chic but relaxed.
this is a perfect giveaway!
Happy Thanksgiving
I think Keri Russell has great style too. And, I'm tempted to copy Katie Holmes' bob with bangs. Can you tell I grew up when these actresses had tv shows. :)
I heart ruffles. Sadly, I have no style icon- the best I can hope for are clean clothes :)
wow, what a talented lady! love, love her work!
a favortie style icon is hard to come by, seeing how i'm indecisive and love a lot of many different things. i may have to get back to you on that one.
happy thanksgiving!
My style icon is my sister-in-law Mary. Her home, fashion,cooking--everything is so original!
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Maybe Cate Blanchett? She's so sophisticated. And I love those pillows!
audrey hepburn for me. classic!
love the pillows! i think my style icon, at this moment, is anita pallenberg circa 1960s.
happy thanksgiving!
no one in particular, actually.. maybe i need one :)
my best friend kristin. she is always honesty with me and finds me what works.
Those pillows are absolutely adorable!! I definitely need a style icon. Actually I would love to have someone on hand each and every day to help style my wardrobe!!
I don't really have a style icon. Maybe someone from the 40's as that is my favorite decade as far as style is concerned.
Great giveaway! My style icons include curvey ladies like Salma Hayek and Oprah, sassy ladies like Mrs. Obama & Scarlet Johansen, and regal ladies like Judi Dench.
I have to agree with some of the other ladies and say miss zooey. She makes me want to wear dresses.
oh man...this is not helping me reduce the number of blogs on my reader! My fashion icon? Sweet Zooey.
I love these pillows! icon: i love audrey, and also people in general, i like to get inspiration from other peoples quirky styles.
