pablo the poet

is possibly my favorite at valentine's.
he will woo even the loneliest of hearts.
there is nothing more romantic than poetry.
i found this pink pocketsize pablo at barnes & noble.
which, in fact, is where i met him in the first place, so long ago.

p.s. we are officially back from our weekend getaway to st. george, utah where dan and his sibs ran a half-marathon on saturday. they are an athletic pack. over post-race burgers they all wondered if the event would be blogged. stay tuned..

and for that surprise i mentioned..

i can hardly wait for the blog posts waiting in the wings. lets just say, it started small and suddenly snowballed into a whole
series of valentine giveaways. and the party starts tuesday. i hope you are pleasantly surprised. not only do i aim to support the handmade world + small business owners, but i hope to give you a fresh collection of online shops to browse. prepare for prettiness. you may even fall in love a little.

the breakdown.
daily valentine giveaways are simple and sweet. comment once to enter to win. be sure your comment leads to a website, blog or email so i can contact you.
a random winner will be chosen before i say goodnight. xo.

part of Sonnet LXIX:

"without the light you carry in your hand,
golden, which maybe others will not see,
which maybe no one knew was growing
like the red beginnings of a rose."

pablo neruda is one of my favs.

Whenever I hear his name, Rent instantly pops into mind - I think it's "La Vie Boheme" with that one lyric, "Pablo Neruda, toooooo." In any case, I've never read his poetry before, maybe I should start now. :]

I absolutely love Pablo Neruda!! One of my favs below...

"I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that never blooms,
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way than this:
where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that when you close your eyes I fall asleep"

*sigh* how beautiful is that!!

So, so terrible that my mind instantly jumps to the How I Met Your Mother episode with this book. Perhaps I'll have to pick up a copy myself and read the real thing! Thank you...that cover is darling.

"I want to do to you what spring does to cherry trees...."
that's one of my favorite Neruda lines.
You MUST see Il Postino, if you haven't already.

I love that you love pablo neruda. I used to have a cd with his poetry recited by the likes of sting and samuel jackson. I'm afraid I lent it to someone and it never returned.

I love Pablo Neruda! I used to have to make myself study in the science libraries at university. It was far too tempting to sneak off and read poetry than work on chemistry labs!

ps. i am crossing my fingers that the soup comes out hint-of-creamy-perfect for your dinner tonight!

pps. how cool is this place that we can figure out what's for dinner just by a few clicks? i'm always doing that.
