DIY towel bunnies

flopsy, mopsy and cottontail.
admittedly, my first needle and thread of the year.

please don't laugh, my craft skills are a bit wobbly. a few months back i wrote that i will learn to sew and be unafraid of failure in my 2010 resolutions list. am making slow work of getting around to it. however i have new reason to jump off the crafty cliff with needle and thread in hand.

i've been asked to be an Activity Day Leader in my church. i will be churning out crafts left and right. hooray. i get to meet with a handful of girls, ages 9-11, twice a month. we'll do projects, learn fun things, have treats together and hopefully enrich lives with wholesome goodness. am planning on learning just as much as they do and then some. this afternoon i'm hosting a little easter party. the featured activity will be whipping together these sweet bunny rabbits from washcloths via www.pompomemporium.com. which means, i have to know what i'm doing first. so i've been practicing. am thinking a cotton ball stitched to the back would be a quick cottontail. who knew i could be so intimidated by such a venture?! wish me luck. special thanks to my sister for sharing the link with me. am welcoming any other great ideas you think an average nine year old or i could handle.

Did you see Heather Bailey's post earlier this month about doing a bicycle care workshop as an activity? Sounded brilliant, and I bet it would be just the thing to recruit a really terrific guest named Dan for...

What about collaging picture frames? You can buy wooden picture frames at the craft store for a dollar or two and then just use whatever old magazines are lying around. I like to cut shapes (squares or hearts especially) out of different patterns in the magazines and use that in a simple design. It's fun, easy, and its recycling!

You'll be great. I did that for a little while. Another fun activity is to paint picture frames, then put a family or other picture in it.

I have a friend who posts very kid activity friendly ideas on her blog. whatarewedoingtodaymom.blogspot.com

Lots of her ideas would be adaptable for Activity Days. Good luck.

I work with the young women in my ward and love crafting. When we have activities we try to make it as simple as possible for everyone. In order to set them up for success we make sure that whatever the project is, it is doable and easy even if that means we have to do way more prep before the activity.

You'll do great!

For my daughter's 10th birthday party, we made your mini clipboards as an activity. :) They loved it! I picked an assortment of papers ahead of time and cut them down to size. They did one side and let it dry while we had snacks. Then they came back to do the other side.
