hello again.
am feeling happy. and restless. (it's after midnight, according to mister daylight savings.) on a side note, i snapped this shot the other day after discovering benji and i were wearing coordinating outfits. gray is the new hot hue around here. and yes, gabi, the hair is blonder than ever.
we made it home this weekend for a little getaway and now we are back, safe and sound at home. i like having two places to refer to as home. home is a good place to be. home is where the heart is, after all. the boys are asleep and–perhaps because i slept all the way home–i am wide awake and brimming with a hurricane of ideas. i've already listed them out on the official clipboard in hopes to fall asleep, but still, am awake. hyper with possibilities. it seems whenever i go unplugged for awhile, my mind recharges itself. it is really the best thing there is. a bit of fresh air, a bit of new snow, a few favorite faces and a flurry of new ideas. life is good. am gearing up for springtime, some new marketing ideas, thinking of vacations in the near future and feeling the overall sensation of being a lucky duck. i feel abundantly blessed.
as we drove home i thought about all the events we packed into one weekend. no matter how much we try not to overextend ourselves on trips home, we tend to fill up the pockets of time in no time at all.
the big priority was dan's big ski race on saturday, the annual wasatch powder keg. it's the epic athletic event of the year; 3500 ft, 6.6 miles, 4 climbs. a hundred plus backcountry participants pack the essential gear (helmets, beacons, shovels, etc.) on their backs and wear adhesive skins on their telemark skis to aid in climbing up snowy slopes and then removing them in order to ski down. again and again. it's very close to insanity, but these guys love it. despite snowy conditions and a bad cough, dan rocked it. as did his buddies. utah is known for their powdery mountains, these boys are known for their wild man endurance and incredible facial hair. congrats on the big finish.
we filled more pockets of time with nieces and nephews that are growing up so smiley and sweet. saying darling little things that i want to never forget. a pocket of siblings and laughter and red vines and balderdash. a little girl disco skit. surprise girl scout cookies and retro fisher price toys on the shelf. a pocket for long chit chats. teaching a circle of kids how to play down by the banks and telephone. a pocket of one-on-one time with my dad. we watched benji chuckle uncontrollably (with shoulders bouncing) as he tossed items into a pot one-by-one. oh the joy of a little boy.
a new morning of spectacular snowfall bending the branches. a pocket for sorting photos with grandma bernice. fish tacos with friends and discussions of living in Sarajevo. party planning with an almost thirteen year old for her upcoming wonderland theme tea party. (benji happily chased scout's wagging tail all the while.) a pocket for a purple pink dusk fall over downtown. a pocket for milk, jammies and a car ride home.
i felt sad to say goodbye again. we passed the seven eleven and i remembered we'd forgotten to pick up our favorite local chocolate cake donuts this time around. we didn't even get to visit with best friends or cousins or have a lunch date or a shopping trip or a cup of chicken soup at the porcupine pub. never enough pockets for everything home has to offer. but i quickly turned my frown upside down. i am indeed lucky there are so many things to look forward to. am so happy there is always a next time. no complaints here.
on the m.writes list.
first off, do me a solid and go vote for me! just type marta in the comments. pretty please.
tonight, a big giveaway right here for those of you in the utah area.
thank you for all the comments, get well messages and workbook downloads!
random winners from my workshop week will be posted tomorrow night.
am in need of some good clean nonalcoholic las vegas to do's.
shockingly, making shamrock sugar cookies actually sounds fun. for a girl who has no patience for sugar cookie making, baking, frosting and sprinkling, i wonder if this urge will pass. only time will tell.
happy monday.

i've never been to vegas, but the place i'd most want to go - for photography's sake - is the neon graveyard. it's where they keep all of the old signs from the strip...
Would you please send me some of that energy this way? I feel so tired and its Monday already :(
I feel all enthusiastic just from reading this! Love, love when I feel that kind of optimism and freshness. Good for you!
sounds like you've got your work cut out for you, miss! (so glad to hear that benji is feeling better, too!)
x
Glad to see you both bright and breezy and back safe and sound after your magical little break.
xx
First of all...Marta (doing so b/c it said to and welp...I live in So. Utah.) As for LV to do's...there are tons! Hoover Dam (there is a new addition being built), Red Rocks State Park to the west of Vegas, outlet shopping, touring the interesting features at the hotels (i.e. Bellagio water show, Mandalay Bay gardens, etc...)...get gellato at Bellagio. Yum... ;)
That picture of you is STUNNING. Sounds like the perfect weekend.
I loved Vegas. there is so much to do. My favourite was a day trip to the Grand Canyon, but in Vegas I loved going on the gondolas in the Venetian.
I'm not going to lie, I'm jealous you get to go home so often. So glad you had such a wonderful time! You were surely missed this weekend.
p.s. gorgeous picture of you and cute little Benj.
Marta!! I just saw your pretty face on Julia's blog and had to pop over here. I have spent the last hour reading your website, how fun! You are so creative.
I hope all is well, will I see you at the high school reunion this summer?
XO, Susie Heath

That is a fantastic photo -- you look beautiful and your boy is so adorably smooshy. And I love that blue top -- where'd you get it?
Hello Marta! So glad that yo had a great time visiting your other home, I have one of those myself and I consider myself a very blessed gal! Thanks for sharing your happiness!
always a pleasure to see you, marta! what a killer photo. the ruffly flower collar, the gorgeous blue eyes, the dashing boy in your arms.. the effortless swoop of bangs! ahh! so, so pretty.
and, as usual, i'm loving your easy-to-relate-to writing. 'the overall sensation of being a lucky duck'.. yes! that's what i've been feeling lately. and being wide awake at midnight, brain full of notions.. me too.
also- the pocket of time metaphor=
why writing is your forte.
as for las vegas, i've always wanted to stand in front of the Belagio fountain at nighttime, just like in ocean's 11. i would bring my ipod along so that i could listen to 'clair de lune' as i watch the falling water.
This is a beautiful picture of both you and Benj. You look so freaking good in it! Great post. Hope my Vegas email was helpful.
voted!
I voted for you Marta! Good luck. I just wanted to tell you that I LOVE your blog and read it everyday. I usually put my name in for a chance with the giveaways but this is my first real comment. Just want to say I love your stlye, your ideas, your shop, and I think you have a cute family!
If you win, post the photos!
The picture of you and Benji is adorable. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend at home. It sure is great to have two places you call home.
As for to do's in Vegas... oh my where to start. Get lost in the Venetian and feel like in Italy, take a stroll through Paris, don't miss the Bellagio's water fountain show at night, go to the piano bar at the New York New York hotel (not neccessarily for drinks, but for the piano music - it's fun), go on a roller coaster ride in that said hotel, go see Old Vegas and the Neon Graveyard, ... and shopping is always an option.
I am sure you will find the perfect things to do. =) I have been there twice and it was always fun.
sweet photo! Love that top!!! :) Sounds like the best kind of weekend!
I voted. For you. I hope you get it.

You look absolutely beautiful in that picture, Min! Gray is definitely your color. Can't wait for Vegas, baby. I'm actually looking forward to the car ride down. Are you going to make a Vegas or Bust Mix for the car?
Oh my goodness... what a precious photo! You are both SO cute! :) I know what you mean... it is nice having more than one place to refer to as HOME!

what a magnificent duo! just stumbled upon your sweet space, and am having a ball, poking around.
The window shopping in Vegas is awesome because they don't know if you just hit the jackpot so they are nice to everyone! I must have tried on 20 Jimmy Choos.
