cucumber limeade, as promised

i love limeade. i always have. when the days suddenly turned hot, my mom used to pick me up from school and we'd go get lime squeezes together. ever since last year, when my sister-in-law introduced me to this recipe, i've been adding a twist of cucumber to every glass. it is my favorite, favorite. when i'm feeling lazy, i'll lie on the sofa and demand an ice cold sprite over cut up cukes. that's the shortcut method. dan is very good at whipping it up on the double. still, you must mix up a jug of this simple sweet limeade for your next shindig.

i happily pour pitchers of the elixir at all our parties. the floating limes and cucumbers look like a very cute couple. (be forewarned, you have to be careful with the amount of cucumber slices, as they can over-power the drink. not that i am one to get carried away or anything.) let me just say, you'll love this refreshingly cool drink on a hot summer day. stir in some ice cubes and sip from a bendy straw. add a paper umbrella for an extra lavish limeade. if you're uber fancy, like my parents, you already have a set of glasses chilling in the freezer. memorial day weekend, here we come.

Sarah's Cucumber Limeade

2 Liter Diet 7-Up (i like the strong stuff, i go straight for the un-diet Sprite)
12 oz. can frozen limeade (thawed, but still cold)

12 oz. can of cold water

Juice of 1 lime
Half of 1 cucumber, peeled and sliced
2 extra limes, cut into rounds

stir liquids together in large pitcher.
add cucumbers & lime slices. take a taste test. add more of something if it needs it. chill until the party begins & pour.

note. if you're serving this for a large gathering, be sure to have extra ingredients on hand. i seem to always send dan out, last minute, for more sprite.

p.s. tomorrow i'll be asking for your advice, so prepare to speak up. believe me, i have a word doc all set up in hopes for good answers. and no, it has nothing to do with the upcoming blog conference. however if you have advice on the topic blogging zen: balancing real life vs. online life, i'd love to hear that too.

Actually, something did come to my mind when reading your topic: For me, connecting both my "real" and "online" life is key. Talking about the things I discover with friends and family, following recipes I find and generally making connections between the one and the other - so, basically, not balancing one vs. the other but embracing both as this one life of mine is what works for me.

But then - so far, my online life consists mainly of reading as I just recently started to experiment with a blog myself. It sure is a challenge to match this urge to throw myself out there and join in on the awesomeness I have experienced these last few years with creating content that even I think is worth while. Right now, establishing this connection in the other direction and letting my "real life" jump into "online life" is what's spinning in my head.

Thanks for triggering this little gush!

Thank you for sharing. I have been searching for the perfect drink recipe for a bridal shower I am planning, and this will be great. Her main color is lime green and so the cucumbers and limes will coordinate perfectly. I love the cucumber twist, very unexpected. Well, I was surprised. Sounds yummy!

Looks very refreshing - perfect for the upcoming blazing hot days of Phoenix summer. Would it be bad to make a batch just for myself? Hey, I've got a little giveaway on my blog this week if you're feeling lucky guys.

I would use fresh lime juice made from neighbors abundant tree. so many limes she doesn’t know what to do with them...phew, then you see how much sugar it takes to sweeten up lime juice...Yikes...sounds good though

I bet this would be REALLY good with some rum added!

Yum that sounds so good and refreshing! My SIL and I both love limeades so I am going to forward this recipe on to her. Thanks for sharing.

I hope you and your boys have a great summer Marta!

p.s. I have been using my little rounds to attach to birthday presents lately for my sons friends. No wrapping paper required. I just punch a small whole in the top of the paper round and use it as a gift tag. Attach with ribbon or jute twine and it looks perfect!! Thanks again.

I made this last night, and LOVED it! My hubby even liked it quite a bit, and his usual drink of choice is water! ;) It paired very nicely with the garden shrimp pasta I made for dinner!

Mmm. I love putting cucumbers in my water (like how people use lemons) - makes the water taste so fresh. I can imagine its a similar reaction in this lemonade. Can't wait to try this.

Made this for a Memorial Day BBQ tonight and it was a smashing success. One male friend even noted that he would rather drink limeade than beer--now THAT is a compliment!
