gold.

i cannot thank you enough for the mounds of email and thoughtful comments concerning my sad situation. you are pure gold. so many have been so kind. it has meant so much to come back to my dear gmail and read dozens of lovely sentiments from friends i can only hope to meet someday. and of course the messages from those i do know have been incredible too. like bouquets delivered to my inbox. merci.

i am slowly feeling like myself again. which is easy with benji grinning, running through sprinklers, playing trains and learning new words. i am counting my blessings. even though this has been hard on us, we can still see sparkling moments within this trial. when i am back home and am in my favorite spot, i'll explain a bit more. this week, i've been completely unplugged; surrounded by family, recovering in my hometown, in my favorite familiar places. everyone is taking good care of me and life is looking sunny again. we are excited to just relax and recoup this holiday weekend and celebrate our independence with homemade ice cream, cousins and campfires. and perhaps a new camera will finally make its debut. wishing you a happy fourth of july, everyone.

tune in tomorrow morning for a taste of my upcoming new blog series; a collection of how-to's. last night my mom and i made her famous red velvet cake for the big family camp out, the same recipe i have never attempted to replicate. i thought it would be the perfect how-to to start this series off with a bang. this cake is whipped up from scratch, with precise steps, creating a deliciously unique flavor. the frosting is the best, unlike any you've tried before. and just wait to see how she decorates it with coconut. a traditional family favorite.

I am glad you are feeling better. Family and friends are always the best things if you are feeling blue. They know what you need without even asking - if it is a big hug, just some company or a bowl of ice cream.

Marta,
When times are hard and sad, I always know that good things are right around the corner waiting for me. That helps me look forward with renewed hope. I've been through many trials over the last few years and that's the one nugget of advice I can share. Getting excited about what is to come is a good place to put energy that is tempted to be sad instead. Many hugs to you!

Hi marta, I'm not sure what is going on in your life right now as I've been on the AT for the past 3.5 months and finally had a smidge of time to drop by a few blogs, but I hope things pick up and life treats you well again. Chin up...!

Plus, when I return I know I have a plethora of craft and home inspiration to read!

You are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. I can't wait for your mom's red velvet cake! I have a feeling it will be another dangerous recipe for me to have, just like your soft ginger snaps! :)
