winter wonderland

snow season has begun. is it snowing in your town yet? when your car door is frozen shut, you know that special time of year is finally here. saturday it snowed and snowed and snowed; big, fat, fluffy flakes. i've never seen snowflakes so huge. it was so beautiful. we pulled on boots and trudged around in it with our puffy coats on. (the complaints of the cold are a lot less frequent wearing a sleeping bag around your torso.) the boy loved his little dollar mittens with bear faces on them (thank you, Target) and dan was, of course, in heaven. i have about a million photos of benji looking over dad's shoulder. they're just asking for a montage.

am really looking forward to thanksgiving and the week ahead. i am hoping to make this week one of conscious thankfulness. i heard in church today that being grateful is a step ahead of being thankful. gratefulness is thankfulness in action. i hope to do small things to show my gratitude; to be more thoughtful, kind-hearted and patient. i am even attempting to comment on blogs a bit more than i usually do. it's such a small thing that can make someone feel so good.

happy sunday evening.

p.s. i made stuffing for supper tonight. don't you love a little preliminary taste of thanksgiving? i added italian sausage, chopped apple, craisins, and pecan bits to my favorite recipe. mmm. mm. where have pecans been all my life?

What a wonderful reminder for this Thanksgiving. I will try to be more grateful than thankful this week!

just love the idea of "gratefulness is thankfulness in action". such a nice sentiment!
it doesn't snow where i live (southern california) so it's a nice treat to see your pictures!

Like the person above I live in southern Cali so no snow here. We did have some fabulous rain today, does that count? :) Your pictures are beautiful and so is the reminder. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

am thinking we'll have to make a trip to the mountains north of san diego to really introduce pete to snow - he had a tiny taste of it last year but this year the world looks brand new to my almost-2-year-old. can't wait to see him grinning ear to ear, up to his knees in it! love these pics of your boys (and you in your super cute puffy coat!). i miss THIS aspect of the holiday season most living in our little san diego snow-less globe of great weather

oooh- it rarely snows like that here in Albuquerque, but back home(West Michigan), it snows a ton! I'm sure I'll be seeing it next month when we visit! :)

Good idea on showing gratitude by commenting on blogs. I often read a post, enjoy it, and move on without showing my gratitude by leaving a short commnet.

Benji looks adorable in the picture and the stuffing sounds yummy. ..wondering if I can add chopped apple and pecans to my Stovetop.

Love the pictures, love the hat, and barely missed the snow. Am currently sipping my peppermint hot chocolate in San Diego. Also, pecans have been right here all this time...waiting for you to love them. :)

Oh and yes- thank you for popping by my blog and leaving a comment the other day- it made my day for sure :o)
Happy week leading up to Thanksgiving.

stuffing is delicious! my favorite part of thanksgiving. although, with a 3 1/2 month old, i hope the snow holds off here a while...

I love that you and Benji have the same delighted smile!

Oh Marta I'm right there with you on the pecans. Roast them in butter and kiss yoga booty goodbye!
Thank you so much for stopping by Lady Day and sending warm thoughts, it truly does make blogging that much more fun.
And I'm loving your winter apparel. Must get a down coat!
Toast to a Happy Day!

I look out my window and hum the song "Snow" from White Christmas. If my girls were here we'd all sing it.

first of all, i'm in south carolina and i got sunburned yesterday :) i'm not sure snow is in our near future, so i love looking at your gorgeous photos.

during this thanksgiving season, i have found myself using the term "grateful" rather than "thankful". i love that your quote provides a little justification for that :)

and lastly...i grew up in a gorgeous old house with a huge pecan tree in my backyard. now my sister has a huge tree in her yard. i love to sit on her patio and just eat them until my hands are numb (from cracking them). LOVE THEM.

The snow was gorgeous on saturday. Gotta love it. I'm not too sure about today's wind though...

Your stuffing sounds wonderful! Pecans are my favorite, I just wish they weren't so darn expensive. They will be going on top of my sweet potato casserole this year, let's hope it turns out. :)

The pictures are adorable. Tell Benji "Hi" for me. :)

Oh wow! Snow?!
I live in Tennessee and we've actually had unusual warm weather this fall. This weekend it was in the 70's and I even wore short sleeves to the Tennessee Titans football game! Pretty crazy for this time of year! :)

Target is the best!

I try to find something every day to be grateful for...a hug from my kids, a beautiful sunset, my mom's homemade chicken noodle soup or even something silly like ziploc bags.

"If you concentrate on finding whatever is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul."

Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family!
