making the cut.

i landed upon this top 150 makers blog list yesterday. it was created (with painstaking efforts, i'm sure) by the wonderfully talented evie. after fighting the feeling that blogging is just a popularity contest, i got over myself and perused the list nodding my head in agreement to so many of my longtime favorites. when a blogger puts Effort (with a capital E) into her blog, you can tell. it's original, it's fresh and completely riveting. she becomes a friend that you want to know more about. you trust her judgement and enjoy her advice. you clap at her accomplishments and you start to care about her. i've come to realize a popular blogger really earns her readers by the heart she puts into her posting. this list is a great resource for some amazing sites, i hope you'll check it out. many blogs i am already smitten with and others i am excited to dive into. am absolutely thrilled (and shocked) to see marta writes listed, number 126. thanks to all of you who tune in every day to see what i'm up to. i hope you know, you are more than stats to me.

wishing you a fabulous weekend. i'm going to take your advice and throw my windows wide open. am going to be wildly binding mini diaries (while watching my-so called life dvds) and trying hard not to eat my hidden stash of easter candy. am also planning to make thinnies (aka crepes) rolled up with lemon juice, sugar and melted butter for sunday supper. xo.

p.s. just so you know, there have been more lists in my life that i haven't made than i have. hello, grease of '99. am i the only one with high hopes to play sandy someday? reading down the list of names printed on a white sheet of paper, taped to a classroom door is among my best and most terrifying moments in life. everyone should know how it feels to make the cut and not make the cut. both experiences are good for character building. at least that is what my mom used to say when i would sulk back into the passenger side door. then we'd go get a treat from a drive-thru window. we are good at sharing a tall coke and fries. (some may say i was learning to soothe problems with fried food or drive-thru's are the end of the universe or obesity starts at may i take your order. i say, life is short. eat smart most of the time, so you can treat yourself some of the time.) i'm totally okay with having happy memories over a happy meal.

I think it's wonderful that you made the list, Marta, because you have a lovely blog. I also think the other blogs listed (at least the ones with which I'm familiar) are equally special. However, I think it's disappointing that someone feels the need to rank blogs in the first place. I think of blogging as collaborative instead of competitive; I think ranking is contrary to the community-building nature of blogging.

You're number 1 in my book. (I suspect I'm not the only reader who feels that way...)

Marta, you have been a favorite of mine for the past few years. I love everything you post. I've loved watching your perspective on motherhood... Really, my list could go on and on. The thing I enjoy the most about what you write - how genuinely, simply nice you are. I think your positivity is contagious and I really respect you for it.

Marta--I would have never known about this list if you hadn't linked it up. Am off to go check it out right now. You are so right about the things that keep readers coming back. I want to blog by a mantra like that: If I care, you'll care.

And to be honored with a spot on the list?! Hip, hip, hooray, Mart!

Yay for you! I love your blog & am glad others will find it too! You needed some good news me thinks. :) Tho I relate more with the "not making the list" portion of your post....

Been happily reading for a while, just wanted to say hi.

I love you and your blog, Marta! I'd rank you a whole lot higher than that!

I love what your mom said. And I think it's cool she took you through the drive-thru. Makes for a lovely memory of childhood!

Happy Weekend.

Congrats on making the cut! How exciting & well-deserved. I agree with you on eating sensibly a majority of the time so that you can treat & enjoy yourself. I have fond memorries of going to DQ w/ my parents for peanut buster parfaits when I was young.

you need the bitter to balance out the sweet. for me, cast lists are a great comparison, if i hasn't lost the part of nellie in south pacific, it wouldn't have been as sweet as when i nailed sandy in grease the next year. :)

Congratulations, Marta! I think the genuine you that comes through on your blog is what endears you to your readers. And I love the memory with your mom on how to handle those disappointments- I'm tucking it away in my motherhood arsenal when I confront similar situations with my own little brood.

list or no list, i'm a huge fan of your blog. there are very few blogs i read that are written by people i don't actually know in real life. however, i found yours somehow and i've read ever since. i appreciate your talent for writing and how you are so genuine. thanks for sharing with all of us to read!

(love the comparison to the cast lists.... i hated that anxiety before looking at the list so much i could practically smell my school reading about that!)

this gives me an excuse to revisit some old favs and discover some new high-caliber performances. excited!

also i am horribly behind in my reader as of late and just read the news that little benj was so sick. so glad he is on the mend and your life has been restored to normalcy!!
