nyc / an afternoon at the MoMA

i have happy memories of the museum of modern art. i first went there when i was in high school and it changed my whole course in life. no, actually it confirmed my whole course in life. this was my third visit to the MoMA, but the first to their new location. of course, museums are ever-changing, so i always try to keep my mind open when visiting. i was sad that the fourth floor (with greats like pollock and rauschenberg was closed for renovation), yet still i found myself deeply enchanted again with the exhibits on display. i started feeling all artsy. which is one of my favorite feelings in the world.

thankfully they allow no-flash photography. i made the most of it. of course nothing can capture van gogh's starry night. it was like seeing an old friend (that poster hung over my bed for years). my heart has been a forever fan of vincent's. his work should be seen in person and up real close.

i like modern art and enjoyed seeing the pieces and trying to recall what i learned about the artists long ago in art history class. there is nothing like walking around silently, my mind fluttering with brain storms. i love the mix of classics, installation pieces, and then there's always the random pieces that i have to muse over for awhile. i can hear my professor. what is the artist saying? what were his intentions? what does this say about the artist, and about his culture? what point is he making? the art loosened me up and i was suddenly enamored with watching other people view art. without a conscious effort, it became my assignment for the day. to snap shots of the art in varying perspectives, with and without people. it turned out to be a very cool experiment. i liked tackling a creative task while visiting a creative place. it made all the difference. i hope to do it again someday.
