preschool project / shaving cream colors
benji and i loved this little project. all you need is a can of shaving cream (or perhaps whipped cream) and food coloring. we talked about mixing colors; blue and yellow make green. (i would've thrown more colors in the mix, but i've used up all my red in red velvet cakes!) the best part about it was his disbelief that i was letting him get so dirty! he was a bit timid at first, so i got in there too and showed him how to mix it up good. he quickly got the hang of it and loved playing monster fingers. we swirled colors, wrote letters, added sprinkles and mushed the mixture around a lot. our hands were dyed green for 24 hours, but it was a great art project. in the summertime, i'm thinking we could use plain shaving cream and rub our wagon clean with this same process.

taking off early this week. happy groundhog day and have a wonderful weekend. we're headed to visit friends tomorrow! also on the to-do list: do some crafting, play in the new snow, go to a super bowl party, have chocolate shakes, make valentines, string a banner together and continue to celebrate dan's birthday.

If you push cardstock down into the shaving cream and then lift it out and use something with a straight edge to swipe the shaving cream off, you will get marbled papers.
(Put a layer of shaving cream down, add the colouring and then swirl the colur around gently before you lay your papers down in it.)

In elementary school, our last day of school project was to clean our desks with shaving cream. So much fun!
Can I just say how happy I am that you have your blogging groove back. I love these activity posts. I have a little one close to Benji's age, and a four year old. Sometimes I forget how much they can do at this age.

We had a ton of fun doing this today. I've had the "magic milk" activity (similar to this) in my activity bucket for a long while now, and this-- same idea, different execution, is fresh and fun. Thanks for sharing. We love our dyed fingers.
We must have been on the same wavelength yesterday...but from very long distances and not knowing each other! My son and I did the same exact project on Thursday...and he too commented "monster hands." But he then ran around the house and "cleaned" the dog. Whoops! Good clean fun :-)
In the afternoon, we went on a sign scavenger hunt. I cut out photographs of traffic signs and pasted them onto a chipboard book...we ran around the neighborhood looking for stop signs, bike routes, and yield signs. It was a blast. And couldn't have been easier!
