real life / still life

as i scrolled through recent photos, i realized how many of them were taken at home, amidst the messes, with a table or steady surface as the main support. a surface is my favorite foundation for a photograph (i love a bird's eye view). thus, my real life, still life series was born. (you'll notice instead of a his and hers master bathroom with oodles of counter space, we compromised on a cozy pedestal sink for sharing and waltzing around. a charming old house will make you forget all about a royal master bath. with a small space, i am learning to keep it super tidy. the great lighting and tiny hexagon tiling totally make up for teetering my beauty supplies on the commode.) speaking of beauty products, we are headed on a girls' getaway soon. any must-have spa products? favorite nail polish hues? games? snacks? dvd suggestions? i'd love to hear 'em. happy monday.

p.s. photos ten and eleven were snapped at the recent karaoke jam hosted at a friend's house. i fancied the idea of an italian soda bar and the red vines perched atop m&m's in a clear vase! how clever. the rest of them were shot in our home.

Marta, these are great images. And it was fun to see which products, things, etc we both share. I'm sure I'm not the only one! I recently watched 50/50 and loved it. But my most recent favorite DVD was Midnight in Paris!!! Seen it? So wonderful!

Cozy photos!
Must have nail polish color = Essie, Ballerina Pink. Looks good with, hmmm, shall we say, 'winter pale' skin? (It's supposedly THE most used nail color by brides!)

This series reminds me of Becky Higgins' Project Life: http://www.beckyhiggins.com/products/ Have you heard of it? A simple way of documenting life with photos + journaling. I love it. It really focuses on the every day.

I loved your real life pictures. My favorite picture was the ribbons and dinosaurs happily habitating the same little space. {Do you know where you got those dinosaurs? They look really cool. My three sons would love them.}

thank you!

leslie, i found those little dinosaurs on sale at a little gift shop in sun valley, idaho. they were the perfect stocking stuffer. there is no brand name printed on them, so sorry! hope you can find something similar.

I absolutely LOVE pedestal sinks and I adore that hexagon tile! What a fun series Marta.

p.s. those blueberry muffins were amazing. we all fought over the last one... including the 1 year old! thanks for bringing such a tasty treat along with your great company on friday.

These are awesome! Your bathroom reminds me of our first house. It was an adorable little cottage with arched doorways and a teensy little bathroom with just a tub, pedestal sink and a toilet for counter space. I loved that house + all its character.
+the italian soda pic makes me want to run out and buy all the stuff to make them! :)

Great shots, Marta! I'm curious what your setting your camera on for interiors? (I feel like I remember you having a Canon G10 like me.)

thanks for the fantastic comments.
jessie, we did not install this tile ourselves. thank goodness it was already here. my brother is doing his own and says it's a bigger job than he ever thought!
and
catherine, i have a powershot G11 and use the auto setting without a flash. this was on an extra wide format; i had no idea it was set to that until i uploaded my snapshots!
