tip of the day / make dinner at breakfast
this is a pat-myself-on-the-back post if there ever was one. but i just have to explain how happy it makes me to whip up dinner earlier than five o'clock at night; when the sky feels like it's falling in and my counter is filled with junk mail and benji needs tons of attention and i forgot to thaw anything.
so here is my tip (and likely, you are already way ahead of me on this) prep dinner at breakfast time. you are already doing dishes as it is, you may as well add some to it. as dan is scurrying about the house and benji is happy enough to pad around or watch a cartoon, i have the energy to think up something grand to make (cook lasagna noodles at seven a.m.? yes sir.) and have at it. as the day goes on (and if everything i do gets undone) i know something is ready and waiting for the evening to settle in, our stomachs to growl, the oven to pre-heat and the forks to go on the table. even if the bed is not made and i'm still in my sweats, the dinner before us makes me feel like i've done my duty as a good wife. what about you? what makes you feel like a good homemaker??
the other day i threw together a quick pinterest recipe binder of printed recipes. nothing fancy; just a holding place. once we make it, taste it and approve it, the recipe moves into my recipe bible. i have a feeling these spinach lasagna roll-ups (which claim to be healthy) will be a keeper.
happy weekend. next week is full of good stuff. including the best banana bread ever. ever. ever. and since this isn't a food blog, i'll also be featuring some pretty art prints that made their way into our home (i'm in love).

This may sound like a no-brainer to you, but it's such a good idea. Just last night I was talking to a friend about meal planning and how it is so much work! I'm definitely a morning person and not a late afternoon person so I'm going to have to start trying this.
i love it...go ahead and pat yourself on the back :)
what i've done lately (because i work outside the home and have the rushed mornings and short evenings that come with that), is i make sure dinner's waiting to be heated when i get home and while we eat dinner and wash up for bed, i prep and cook the next night's dinner. i'm sure this will be an ever-evolving challenge as my little one's schedule changes, and as my own schedule changes...some day.
I love this idea. I always try to do dinner prep during nap...but then I usually would rather do something else when I have the time to myself, so I just feel bad about not doing it. This week has been especially tough during the dinner hour. I am definitely going to try this for next week, I think life will run much more smoothly.
Such a great tip! I may just have to give this a try next week, seeing how I despise the hours leading up to dinner time around here! Way to go, you're awesome.
this is genius. this would ABSOLUTELY make me feel a little more put together as a homemaker. :) off to pin some make ahead recipes. you are amazing.
Early dinner prep is a definite key to motherhood success. I like your system of tried and true recipes. I frequently turn to the computer for some of my faves- I really need to print them off and get organized with my recipes!
Great idea! I've recently become big fan of the crock pot. Life changing. No more frustration at 5p because I'm staring at a frozen solid hunk of meat.
I started doing a weekly meal planner as my New Year's resolution, but this takes it a step further! Thanks for the good idea. I have a tip for moms with school age kids: I make school lunches the night before as I am cleaning the kitchen & putting away leftovers, etc. Next morning we just grab, pack & go!

I do this sometimes, too, and it makes such a difference. I'll have to check out the lasagna rolls!
