am a fan

am a fan of re-discovering a treasure! look at this vintage quilt! i've had it folded up and stored away for years. (what was i thinking!?!) i am so very much in love with it. (whit and abby are likely laughing right now, they know the truth about my quilt addiction.) i am a collector, which is a nice way of saying that i'm a quilt hoarder. you really can never have enough quilts. you need a quilt for every mood and they all need names. i am spoiled in quilts and i often feel unworthy since i barely know how to sew on a button! this one is just right for the beginning of fall; the fabric feels cool on my skin and yet it is so cozy and soft. i am studying the individual fabrics and imagining their stories. re-wrapping myself up in it is making these night feedings much more dreamy.

am a fan of jimmy kimmel (speaking of night feedings). he makes me laugh out loud.

am a fan of mixing equal parts limeade and gingerale. benji calls it lime-o-nade.

am a fan of bumble and bumble texture undressing creme. this stuff gives my fine hair grit and volume. a little goes a long way. it's so helpful on days when i am attempting the beachy bed head look. and it gives some ooomph when teasing the roots for a top knot or messy ponytail (which is pretty much my go-to for walking benj to pre-school). if you like their surf spray, you'll love this stuff.

am a fan of the october issue of the Oprah magazine. this magazine is always well thought-out and beautifully designed, however this specific issue is loaded with useful advice. (even dr. phil's article had me pondering...)

am such a fan of this article by steve carell. i love when you can hear someone's voice in their writing.

am a fan of meeting blog readers in the flesh. you guys are the coolest. i always marvel that people are out there still reading this silly old blog. a really wonderful photographer came to snapshot my boys this weekend and shockingly she admitted to reading my blog for awhile now (unless you comment, i don't believe you're out there!). we hit it off right away and i can't wait to share jessica's photo session tips with you! i never thought i'd invite a guest into my home and let her watch me make my bed (while she holds my new baby)! there's a first time for everything!

am a fan of blogging for SIX years. happy blog-a-versary to me. as most of you know, this blog has been all over the place. it's had some highs and some lows. i take pride in knowing–no matter what–it's pretty genuine to me. right now it's taken a major leap from anything organized, neat or pre-determined. right now it's all organic and spontaneous posting, i hope you don't mind. and pretty un-airbrushed. here i am, all loosey goosey. words all over the place. as i always say, thank you for reading. i love the community of blogging. i love having all my thoughts in one general location. it's awesome to look back and see so many happy memories. i like watching my ideas change and evolve over the years! (oh boy, have i learned a lot.) i've said it (more eloquently) before: here, here and here.

am a fan of saying no. or at least, i'm getting better at it. these days i'm taking baby steps on the tasks i can tackle. since my creative juices seem to be boxed up with my skinny jeans, i'm taking maternity leave from designing logos and invitations and more (sorry if i haven't replied to your email inquiries!!). however, i have plenty of good designer recommendations for you! for example, suzanne from shepaperie and i have very similar design aesthetic. i can't say enough good about her, i just love her work. she is seriously talented and can read your mind when it comes to custom pieces. (in fact, she is helping me create a very important baby announcement!)

am a fan of layered fall fashion. the denim, the corduroys, flannel plaids, tights and riding boots are all chomping at the bit. planning on painting my nails a moody hue this week.

Is it possible that I get to leave the first comment?? What a treasure! LOL

Just want to say... I am a fan of almost all of those things too. Wishing I had a wonderful handmade quilt, instead of a stack of half-finished quilting projects. (Note to self: work on that!)

and loved catching up with your last post ("recently/end of summer") as I'm sitting in Delhi, India today for work. The photos you shared? Just the loveliest slice of home! They reminded me of some of my own childhood memories... moments filled with that carefree feeling that Fall brings. Bliss! Thank you for sharing, Marta.

I want to comment on the Steve Carrel article. I loved it. And the funny thing is...I can't imagine anyone MORE cool then Steve. Other people crush on Ryan Gosling....I just crush on Steve. Love him! Happy Blogging Anniversary, Marta!

Marta, whether your posts are "loosey goosey" or more polished, I love them all! happy blog-a-versary!

I, too, love quilts, but own only one. It was a gift from a best friend and her mom when I graduated university. Best gift ever! I'm missing it now that I'm in China and couldn't bring it with me.

I have been continually checking your blog over the past week and was thrilled to see this post this morning! You obviously have VERY important things keeping you busy right now, but just know that I really miss you when you don't post (would die if I somehow got to be a "reader" who got to meet you in the flesh).

Just purchased my own dream riding boots and painted my nails crimson. I'm seriously considering cranking the AC today just so I can wear a flannel plaid shirt :) Fall is the absolute best!

I love your blog too, Marta! I'm often a silent reader, can't remember if I've commented before, so I thought I'd come out of the woodwork to say hello. Happy 6 years!! I started reading when Dan was still in law school because my husband was applying for law school and now he's just recently graduated from University of Nebraska law school in Lincoln! Wahoo! Your blog is the perfect mix of positive and realistic. It seriously makes me happy and I love your posts whether they are loosey-goosey or super planned and polished. Thanks for putting yourself out there for all of us!

We have piles of blankets in our house, but not many quilts. I'm hoping to make a quilt for our little guy who's due in a few months. Maybe someday I'll have a "collection" like yours... ;)

I love that quilt! So beautiful. Happy blog-a-versary to you. I love your blog and love that it keeps me in touch with what you all are up to these days. Want to know a funny fact? That really wonderful photographer you talked about is my chiropractor's wife! HA! I didn't realize it was such a small world here in Utah. I thought that only existed in Idaho. ;) Ya learn something knew every day. Can't wait to see the pics. Lets get together soon. I miss you!

p.s. I just read the steve carell article... HILARIOUS. I almost dated a guy in college that wore cargo pants, until my roommates advised me not to for the sole reason that he wore CARGO PANTS. haha! Thanks for sharing ;)

Happy baby boy birthday and happy blogiversary. I have 2 sons as well and I cannot imagine any other combination.

You should try Essie's new metallic line of polish -- wearing Nothing Else Metals, a pale shimmery violet.

Happy Blogaversary Marta! What a special treat it is to read your writings, see how you live, see how you love, see how you work and see how you play. And of course you always do it all with such authenticity. So honored to call you a friend! Thanks for the kind words today too...SHE's blushing.

Marta, I can't believe it's been six years already ( I started following you around the five year mark!) Some of my best days have been when I've gotten support and encouragement from you which is why I see blogville as such a great opportunity for community. You've always remained true to yourself and to your voice and I am so happy that you share all of your milestones as a "mother, woman, creative" with us. Congratulations in advance for all the happiness to come in the next six! Hopefully we'll have shared a coffee by then! Just wanted you to know I am still a loyal reader:) xo, Vanessa

Look at that! I do read it! I really do. I used to much more and don't get to too many blogs now that I have three littles to care for but I do truly love your way with words. Thanks for the little shout out! And I loved holding that sweet baby of yours!

Happy six years!

haven't commented in awhile but I'm here! still reading :)

and I should have read your blog before I posted tonight as you summed up in a few words (am a fan of saying no) that I took hundreds of words to say in a post about intentional living.

i love seeing new posts from you in my reader. makes my day. :) yet another great post. I will have to pick up the October issue of O Magazine.
