recently / end of summer

counting my blessings.

+ our big boy turned four (and starts preschool this week!) we had a low key birthday party and no one seemed to mind. he planned his party: fruit loops for breakfast, a hot wheels sheet cake, chick-fil-a for dinner and cousins all around the playground. it was pretty perfect. if three was any indication, i think four is going to be a boatload of fun.

+ homegrown tomatoes. best. thing. ever. with so much going on this past month, i'm shocked our tomato plants are thriving. i made labor day tomato soup (and a giant mess) yesterday with all our varieties.

+ dan and jacque painted the house last month before the babe was born. (we painted it the same color.. just to freshen it up!) dan was in nesting mode! it was awesome to see them hard at work and awesome that no one fell off the roof. i ran to home depot four times that day, taco bell and the 7-11 for snacks. it's so fantastic to have a new coat of paint up in time to celebrate our one year anniversary of moving in! yay for DIY home improvement.

+ diving for coins on the last day of swimming lessons. he's growing up so fast.

+ neil diamond in concert. two days before seth was born we rocked out to sweet caroline, cracklin' rosie and i'm a believer on a gorgeous summer night. there were a lot of hard core neil fans there. but i sat next to his number one fan. i had no clue until that night that i know all his songs by heart. seth was kicking to the beat from the inside. such a fun date night.

+ after two weeks of having seth home, a high fever landed him in the hospital. i have circles under my eyes for all the worry and heartache. being in the hospital is never glamorous or any fun. but it gives me such a good perspective of how blessed we are. how thankful i am for what i have. how amazing the support of friends and family is. how deeply we need people to keep us strong. i rocked him in that quiet room for a few days and thought a lot about my blessings and my beliefs. sometimes situations stop us in our tracks and force us to pause to contemplate the bigger picture. oh what a relief it was when the doctors gave us the okay to take him home!

+ and here is my growing sprout, seth. all wrapped up after baths. can you believe that face?! i love his hearty stare and curly hair. i hope never to forget how good it is to bathe a healthy baby, wash his hair and cuddle him close. am hoping to always be thankful for the simple routine of daily life (no matter how hard it may be at times)!

+ headed home after the bike parade. even in the simple moments, there is much to celebrate.

Dearest Marta, that little Seth-face made me grin so big just now. Congratulations! I held a newborn baby girl the other night and was shocked by how delicate she was. That sweet little boy (and his big brother!) are so lucky to have a mama like you. Happy snuggling :)

Hi Marta! A few things...
~ I can't believe you've already been in your house one year. That was FAST!
~ I love the picture of Seth all freshly bathed and wrapped up. He's so gorgeous! That stay in the hospital must've been scary and I'm glad everything is better now.
~ I am SO jealous ~ going to see Neil Diamond is one of my lifelong dreams. One day!

I am a long time reader; first time commenter. Your little guys are so lucky to have a mommy that cherishes all the wonderful sweet moments these little miracles bring. In the whirlwind of dishes, laundry, picking up legos and trucks - sometimes these moments are lost, but I feel like somehow you are able to codify those beautiful moments so they are not lost. So glad that your baby is better and is home. Happy Birthday to your Benji!

I seriously sighed when I saw that picture of Seth. He makes me baby hungry and I just had a baby 5 months ago! So sweet. Congratulations!

Scott and I were at that Neil Diamond Concert - So sad we did not run into you. Loved the concert and knew all the songs also, but You know why I knew all the songs - am older than you are.
But not as old as Neil Diamond LOL
