Just a Substitute
Hi. This is Dan. Marta is sick today so she asked me to fill in. I'm here to announce the winner of the fuzzy cookie contest.
Who's the big winner? Desiree. Congratulations, you're the big winner. And, you share a name with my third favorite Neil Diamond song. The greatest Neil song of all time is, without a doubt, Holly Holy, followed closely by Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show. While I'm partial to the classics, Neil's 2005 album "12 Songs" had some remarkably good music. Notably Captain of a Shipwreck. If you haven't seen 1980's "The Jazz Singer," starring Neil in the title role and Sir Laurence Olivier as his long-suffering father, you're really only hurting yourself. Not only is the acting absolutely phenomenal (I'm pretty sure Neil won the Oscar for Best Actor that year), but the soundtrack will blow your mind. Check out this, this and this.
Anyway, congratulations on the fuzzy felt cookies. Hope you enjoy them. Email your contact info to Marta and she'll take care of the rest.
I couldn't find a credit for this photo.
My sincere thanks to the unknown photographer who captured Neil at his most radiant.

Hi Marta, I've nominated your creative blog for an award, please visit my site and see more...
Kristin
somehow the combination of "fuzzy felt cookies" and Neil Diamond shout-outs was just what I needed this morning. Love it,
Min...get better soon!
Dan, I nominate you for a blogger Pulitzer in the best-guest-blog-featuring-an-unappreciated-American-icon category!!
Does Marta know you're posting Neil Diamond pictures to her blog?!
When my husband and I had our first dance, we danced to Delirious Love.
I hope she feels better soon.
Haha, I was stunned for a moment thinking I'd won a contest I hadn't entered ^_^ However, congrats to the other Desiree :D
oh but you can't forget about Cracklin Rosie and Love on the Rocks. Really, they must round out the top 5 Neil Diamonds. I wonder though, has he EVER buttoned his shirts?
You guys should come to Salt Lake City on the 19th to see Neil with us! It is a tradition for the Robinson's to see Neil live in concert whenever he blesses little Utah with his brilliant presence! We would have a blast hanging out with you guys...And yes, Holly Holy is the best Neil song ever!
I concur. I absolutely love Holly Holy and Brother Love's Show. As a young teenager I would secretly take out my father's Hot August Night LP and play it on his turn table in a hot muggy attic, dancing and dreaming of places more magical and exciting than a small mining community in northern Minnesota.
Shiloh and I am I said also take me there.
LOL. Dan you are such a funny guy.
My favorite Neil Diamond? I love all the favorites but- The Jonathan Livingston Seagull soundtrack. Awesome. Hope Marta feels better soon.
Dan--I remember your brother Tom singing a moving rendition of Neil Diamond's "Love on the Rocks" back in high school. Neil does look radiant in the photo. I wish I could get my hands on that jacket.
DAN! You are the best Neil ever. Marta should post videos of YOU singing like the fabulous Neil. Please. Just for me?
I love "hello again hellooo..and he's dreaming of Lucy Arnez..what a great show. Marta, hope you and little Benji are feeling better soon..
"Turn On Your Heartlight" makes me tear up. Hearing that Min and Benj are sniffling does, too.
I love Neil Diamond! What Dan failed to mention here is that he has a magical ability to turn any song into a Neil Diamond song.
Feel better (and talk Dan into guest blogging again).
"he's america's greatest song writer and we love him" (saving silverman.
Dan you're the best.
mowda, hope you and Benji feel better soon.
