baby booties

our dear friend is living in Sarajevo for a few years. she thoughtfully sent us these darling booties for benji. they arrived just in time, on his unbirthday. they are hand knitted in the small villages around Bosnia, mostly in the winter when the women are not herding sheep. i very much love the intricate knitted patterns and the beautiful colors in the photographs she sent alongside. i am fascinated in the skills and crafts of women across the globe. it's nice to step back every once in awhile and marvel. what treasures these will be.

The photos are breathtaking, and full of character.

Benji's little piggies will stay nice and toasty in those darling booties!

Isn't it fun to realize there are women everywhere making the necessities of life beautiful?

Do you know that the bridge (very old one) on the photo had been ruined during the war and built again after it?

Marta,
Sweet booties. I love things handmade from other countries. I have baskets from Somalia, a poncho from Panama, a purse from Equador, quilts from Korea (all items given to me by people who have been in those countries)

P.S. I wrote a large portion of another chapter for my memoirs yesterday - wow! and you're on my daily blog lookup for inspiration. thanks!!!

One of my dear friends is from Bosnia, so these are near and dear to my heart. Anything to support the local women!

How amazing to be given such a beautiful gift, so lovely for your baby boy. Is that bridge in the picture the Mostar bridge? It is beautiful now it has been rebuilt.
