resolutions mmx

the list. as in the unedited version. i've been mulling over this for awhile now; slow cooking my resolutions before finalizing an actual list, like last year. finally i just wrote them all down in random order as quick as i could. i wanted to capture what my true self had to say before i could edit and revise and recalculate and refinance. thankfully, the words rolled out like scrolls of pickled ginger. i looked it over and decided it was just right. loosey goosey writing and all.
ready set go.

here is the breakdown of my two thousand ten to do's.

i will be alive in life
to be alive is to be passionate. to take advantage of the life i lead. to enjoy every inch of it while in this season of life. to be present in the moments. to adore my life in the here and now.

i will flex my muscles and share my talents
to do things that take work. to not quit when the going gets tough. to push myself and pull myself. to weave out the tapestry that is my potential. to find the best in myself and to inspire the best in others.

i will learn to sew and be unafraid of failure
to try new things. to be undaunted and courageous. to make short-term goals and ask for assistance along the way. to learn things from the wise. to start projects and to finish them. to celebrate progress, be it small as a stitch.

i will become the me i want to be
to find, make, and carve out time to reflect. to learn from and be good to those around me. to make sense of life's lessons. to spend less time stuck in the thick of thin things. to make weaknesses stronger. to jot it all down.

i will read more, sing more, bubble bathe more and write more
to stop and breathe. to relax and appreciate. to exercise and eat good foods. to take care of my body. to have fun and laugh. to peel potatoes and take roadtrips. to reminisce and wonder. to tie baby shoes and to zip jackets up and to smooch each others cheeks. to slow down enough to treasure it. to document the details of the day.

i will schedule life and be open to the inevitable changes
to allow life to follow its path and plan accordingly. to grab ahold of the reins and let it take me where it needs to go. to stop thinking that i'm the boss of my life. to be okay about that. to be open to change and the opportunities that lie within it. to let adventure happen and take photos out the window.

i will do better at being kind
it is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.
there are no great men who are not also kind men.

i will have ice cream at least once a month or more
to indulge in small simple happinesses often.

i will think outside the box
to be creative, original and decisive. to be fearless of what onlookers might think. to push the envelope and to find my own voice. to go with my gut and to give it a go. to stand up straight and be bolder than bold. to refine and redefine.

i will ponder and meditate daily
to pray and be close to what i believe. to be quiet enough to hear whisperings in my heart. to follow through with good intentions. to cultivate faith and strengthen the truths that lie within.

i will get out of my own way
to trust my instincts. to search out my creative side. to make good habits.

i will listen with love and empathy
to give a hug when needed. to listen rather than talk. to be selfless and thoughtful. to be there for someone else. i cannot always wholly understand, but i can always empathize and lend a helping hand.

i will stretch
in more ways than one

there they are. freshly decided. please tread lightly.

have a happy weekend. we're planning a little date night and a lazy saturday morning of whole wheat pancakes. benji has recently fallen in love with the broom. i never thought i'd be immaculately cleaning my broom for benji's convenience. and so it continues. benji and his broom may be slow dancing around the apartment all weekend long. will be uploading some itunes (thanks to you!) and am organizing my iphoto photos. do you name all of your photos? do you delete with reckless abandon? do you allow your children to play with lifesized brooms? tips welcome.

No worries on the broom! My newphew is 18 months old and my brother and sister in law gave him a broom set from the $ store for Christmas as joke since he always takes her broom. What toys? Guess what he played with all Christmas Day...

lovely list - its interesting how many of them say the same exciting things about the person you want to bloom and become in 2010, just a little twist and a different flavor. no brooms yet in our life, but my 13 month old adores a plastic measuring cup!?! i try to upload to iphoto daily, i organize them by month so i can look back throughout the year. i delete those that don't make the cut at the time of upload and editing. at the end of the year i print the greats and put them in a book for safe keeping and looking back on. then all those monthly 'events' get combined into one annual event and the next years collection of monthly photos begins. we just looked back at our babe through the months of 2009. my oh my!

love the list marta. so many of them happen to be on my list as well (just not so beautifully put as yours are). i'm hoping twenty-ten brings on new experiences, lessons and joy.

little guy loves our broom and mop. he is also the designated vacuum-er (in his mind of course). let's just hope they keep this passion with them into their teens.

We now use Aperture rather than iPhoto. Used to organize by person, event, holiday but in 2010 decided to try monthly archives instead with subfolders for individual events to make it easier. I keyword every photo with the year (even though it is uploaded with a date), then every person in the photo, then perhaps the event, the school year (k, 1st, 2nd so that in later years I can pull up photos for mini's and such). My nature photos go in a separate folder. I have a hard time deleting, because sometimes the imperfect photos tell more of a story. One of my goals though, is to narrow down my huge library and be more selective! BTW-Our first date night of the year is tomorrow evening, yahoo!

my toddler went through a broom obession, too, somewhere between 1 year and 18 months it started. I finally bought him a kid-sized broom. yes, I name my photos, and I'm also trying to sew. and I started a book group. anyone welcome so long as they are nice and not snarky.

This is the most lovely list I think I've seen---so much sweet inspiration.

Love your list. Very inspiring. Thanks for being so willing to share. If it's okay to say- i think one of my favorites would have to be "get out of my own way"... because I feel like I need to add that to my list! Thanks for once again inspiring me!

Love the list! I may just print it and post it on my mirror for inspiration each morning ;) My boys prefer to play with the mop. Hopefully when they are old enough to ACTUALLY mop, they will still find it enjoyable!

Great list, again your writing blows me away. The way you word everything is beautiful. And for the record Jake loves the broom, the mop, the vacuum and the duster. I'm impressed you clean your broom, I just let Jake go for it...

I am so, um, well organized with my photos...it's about the only thing. I have a folder for each year. Then in each year I make folders for each event and label it with date and event (01-15 work party)...lol. Then there is a folder in each year for misc photos that dont fit anywhere such as me practicing metering. THEN I have a folder in each year..(told you, anal) for each friend / family named by last names. In that goes photos people email to me of their kiddies, parties, pets etc.

It sounds complicated but once the initial set up is done, I just have to copy photos into their folders.

I love Pixie's iphoto tips. I have about 50 albums and keep adding more. I keep looking for an empty week to organize them better.

Your list of goals could be a guide to a happy life. You should be a life coach—actually, you already are.

My two year old son's favorite toys are the cleaning supplies. One of his Christmas toys this year was a child sized cleaning set. He LOVES it! Plus it was super cheap :) Here's the link...

"to spend less time stuck in the thick of thin things." Love that.

can I copy and paste that to my wall, bathroom mirror, you know anywhere I can see it every hour? Love it. As for the sewing part, the offer is still open ;)

Can I just ask Marta - is that your actual handwriting in the first picture?

Marta, I'm reading a book called "Writing the Sacred Journey" by Elizabeth Andrews for a class I'm taking on spiritual nonfiction. I wanted to recommend it to you; pretty positive you'll love it.
