breakfast for dinner

when we have hardly anything in our fridge for supper, it's super breakfast to the rescue. the other evening, i dolled up our German Pancakes with blueberries, sliced bananas, and a sprinkling of powdered sugar. squeeze some citrus on top for a little taste of tang.

syrup, shredded coconut or homemade jam is optional.

Although many in America would call these "German pancakes," these guys are actually called Dutch Babies and are not a German recipe. Either way, they are STILL delicious! :)

FYI: German pancakes (Pfannkuchen) are actually very similar to crepes. I use my mother's recipe that has been passed down for generations of German ancestors. YUM!

Yum! I actually just had these (http://thisweekfordinner.com/2010/07/21/kaiserschmarrn-aka-emperors-pancakes-take-one/) for breakfast. Similar to yours, but thicker and WONDERFUL. With lemon and powdered sugar, blackberries on the side.

I stand corrected (partially). Apparently, (according this Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_baby_pancake) Dutch Babies were made in Seattle by a German-American restauranteer. It is supposedly a recipe derived from the original German pancakes. As a first-Generation American on my German side (and a German teacher), I thought I knew my German pancake origin! :)

Breakfast is my favorite meal and breakfast food especially - anytime of day! Love German Pancakes (we also call them Dutch babies). Never tried coconut on top, sounds yummy.

We love German Pancakes. They are Sunday staple in our house. For what ever reason my little girl named them "Chicken Cake", but hey she thinks she is getting cake for dinner.

We had blueberry cornmeal pancakes for supper last week, my family loves breakfast for dinner. Something about it seems so novel. Your photograph is beautiful!

Oh, I have never heard of German pancakes before! Here in Germany, we only have "pancakes" (called "Pfannkuchen") and "American pancakes" (called, well, "pancakes"). Hehe. So is this actually just one big monster pancake made in the oven? Intriguing!

Looks delicious - breakfast for dinner is always great.

Sassy Sarah, you are right - German pancakes (Pfannkuchen) are like crêpes. I guess no one here in Germany knows the Dutch Babies - and no one ever heard about the German chocolate cake - unless they've been to the USA. =)

My kids are a split vote on liking German Pancakes, so I don't make them as often as I'd like.

I grew up on them, though. Delish. I've had them with berries before, but bananas sound yum! I'll try it next time.
