recently

recently i colored water for dan's shooting activity.  (i thought four gallon jugs was enough. lo and behold his friends brought along a whole truck-bed full of colored water.) recently i love that dan has outdoorsy passions that he enjoys doing. recently i realized i have very little enjoyment when i'm outdoors in the wintertime. i see this as a major weakness that must be overcome. recently i've been admiring dan's beard growing back. even though i complain about his scratchy whiskers, i still love it.

recently benji has almost outgrown his shoes. which is just in time, they are looking haggard. recently i've been wearing a warm turquoise-y sweater i snagged at a swap party. recently i fell in love with swap parties (thanks ashlynn!). it is the perfect motivation to rid your house of clutter and you end up scoring awesome new stuff. (carefully selected of course, as you don't want to replace the clutter you just rid yourself of.) recently i made oatmeal craisin white chocolate chip cookies for activity day; none of the nine year olds went after them. they all chose chocolate chip instead. it was cute watching one little gal check out which flavor cookie her bff chose before she made her decision. oh how we all do that sometimes. recently i've been documenting how my mini diaries are made, start to finish. (anyone interested in the process?) recently i have been deeply involved in re-introducing myself to adobe illustrator. a whole new happy world to explore. (thank you, alma for the encouragment.) am almost done designing march dollar downloads!

recently b hangs out in his crib reading (aloud to himself–cutest thing ever) in the morning. when he begs to take two or three books to bed at night, i always give in. recently i am wearing earrings. all the time. recently i've been snacking on plain almonds and banana chips. they sit on the counter in a cute container. recently i resisted the urge to splurge on cadbury mini eggs. recently i let benj color on plain envelopes. i like thinking that they are little artpieces for the mailman. recently i've been beefing up on new fonts. recently i ran in to get a free bang trim. this could be the best part about having bangs. yay. recently i've been wanting to see friday night lights. everyone is talking about it. recently we bought little moleskine notebooks to keep track of favorite scriptures we read and thoughts that come while we are studying (dan always has the best ideas). new notebooks always give me an excited push in the right direction.

very cute post! and you should definitely start watching friday night lights (from the beginning, though!), one of the best shows ever and highly under-rated :)

I can't believe you resisted the mini cadburys. I can't, I don't have the will power. They are in my pantry right now!

Friday Night Lights = YES. I have a special place in my heart for that series; I spent many late nights with my newborn watching it on DVD.

Charming post, by the way. It is always nice to hear about the little things.

Awesome post! Love it!

My own personal trends are always revolving (which is a nice way of saying I'm fickle!)...so I love the idea of RECENT loves..

I would love, love to learn illustrator. Been dabbling in photoshop a little. My daughter is getting married, so I made these graphics. Fun, fun!!

recently i've fallen completely head over heels in love with your dollar downloads. I had a fun valentine's open studio day for friends and had all sorts of hearts thanks to your template. Such a fan of dollar downloads!

am curious to know what fonts you've splurged on (and where you like to shop). i find i'm not exactly adventurous when it comes to purchasing fonts, but maybe i should be...
p.s. i've always been a HUGE fan of illustrator (guess it comes with the territory when you major in illustration :)). happy designing!

Hey I know Luke! He went to law school with my husband and we used to do a lot of barbecues together with our group of friends. Small world!
Love your blog by the way. :)

Mmm I love this "recently" themed post. We got hooked on Friday Night Lights and watched every season within a matter of weeks, thanks to netflicks on the wii. I don't really get hooked on too many shows but this one has funny characters who draw you in and religion throughout...although their are a few fast forward type parts in it if you know what I mean ;o) And almonds + banana chips, yum. Think that I should put that on my snacking list!

Illustrator holds the key to my heart. Unless I'm working on my magazine, I rarely use InDesign or Photoshop anymore. I'm so glad that you are embracing it. Alma is the bestest of the best. (She is a sweet friend too!)

And shooting colored milk jugs? I think that might be my husband's dream recreation. I'll have to tell him about it.

first of all...i love reading your blog. you always make me happy or say things that i can't say.
i love illustrator too...and am currently a second-time student of alma -- love it!
i've never been to a swap party, but i think it sounds like one of the best parties ever.
and, yes, i'd love to see your mini diary process!

I can sympathize with the Cadbury mini egg issue. They are pretty much my favorite candy of ALL time. I passed on all Valentine's candy this year, and I figure since Easter isn't until the end of April, I can hold out till the beginning of April..I hope.

you've had great recent moments. particularly love the cookie story, books in crib read aloud (mine too!) and moleskin notebooks.
and yes please on the how-to for mini diaries. :)
am getting ready to make my lil one blank books for him to illustrate.
love the art for the mailman- what a lovely envelope to receive a letter from your favorite penpal in. :)

your little family of three sounds like they are having a marvelous end to feb. i know what you mean about seeing your husband be passionate about something--it's so endearing to know that as wives we will always be able to see that sparkle in their eye when they do something they truly truly enjoy.

yes to new notebooks giving a push. yes to resisting the mini cadbury eggs- i walked away the other day and have been patting myself on the back ever since. yes to cute boys who like books. my baby is on a current book kick and i'm loving it!

FNL. Can not overstate the amazingness. Plus I want to be Tami Taylor when I grow up.

Anyway. Loved your post.

What a lovely post!

I second what Colleen said above, "can not overstate the amazingness" is accurate, and Tami Taylor is amazing :) The first few seasons of the show definitely have some tear-jerker moments, so grab some kleenex!

I can't believe nobody else has commented on the first appearance of a firearm on your blog. With my brother involved it had to happen sooner or later.
