awesome or an outrage / lululemon vs. target

lately i've been noticing the clever way designers are copying (so closely!) the trends selling in big brand name shops. (yes, i realize this is not a new phenom).

therefore, i give you: AWESOME OR AN OUTRAGE?!

i have recently been introduced (and therefore a bit converted) to the awesomeness of Lululemon attire. however i had mixed feelings when i saw almost exact designs at Target for way less than offered at Lulu. what do you think? i do love finding a bargain but do you think Target is missing on quality in construction? (i did note that there a few minor differences in design.) is Lulu just out to get us!? are you stoked that Target is up on what's hip?! do you feel in some way unethical buying the cheaper version!? or do you love that you scored a knock-off design!? (no judgements here. in nyc, i've been known to go crazy for $5 pashminas and faux kate spade bags!) for the record, these pants are completely comfortable and cozy. do you know which one's which?! will you be getting a pair?

Gulp! $88 for capris? Nope, no way. I'll buy the cheap ones cuz they'll only have snot (not mine) wiped on them anyway. Haha!

With all due respect, you don't have to be a genious designer to design a capri pant. I would buy the cheaper version and I would invest in something more original, in terms of design that is.

I was duped! I thought the one on the left was lulu!!!
I would not buy lulu products. Too expensive for my budget.

I have never bought and will never buy any lulu products. They are far too expensive and there has been a lot of bad press recently regarding their business practices. I've never had a problem with the quality of target's clothing or accessories.

I have mixed feelings about lulu. I'm the biggest cheapskate in the world so obviously I would never buy full price lulu ever, but I think I'm even to the point I wouldn't buy it at a thrift store either as a statement. They are so unvelievably overpriced. When I ran st George marathon last year and literally every 4th person was decked in lulu, I almost felt like the marathon had turned into a fashion show instead of an amazing test of one's own endurance. Their stuff is cute but I definitely would buy the less expensive version and I'll steer clear of the mc hammer yoga pants whatever the label.

i have exercise capris from both target and lululemon and i have to say that i like the lulu ones a lot better!the material is better quality, the overall fit is better, they are more comfortable to run in and has a zip pocket in the back.

but that doesn't mean i'll buy more from lulu - it's expensive! (i had a gift card :)

Yes lulu is expensive, and no, I don't buy their stuff that often. I'm from Vancouver, where their home base is, so its been around here for years.
I have to say, the stuff I have invested in lasts For.Ever.and.ever.
Like you will get years out of a pair of capri yoga pants.
No way I ever get anywhere near that kind of life span from anything I buy from Target.

This post is awesome. But I can't decided if the pants dilemma is awesome or outrageous!!! As a huge fan of lulu lemon and target, I'm so torn.

Definitely wouldn't pay the price for the Lulu Lemon pants. My favorite workout pants are Nike from Ross, and they were under $20.00.

I would buy the Lulu ones. I have workout clothes from Target that I love but I don't love Target's imitation of the Lulu stuff. It doesn't fit as well or hold up as well. There is a reason Lulu costs so much.. Is it overpriced? Yes. Is their fit amazing? Yes. Is there a market for it? Yes. I have a few Lulu things and I find myself wearing them constantly so I get my money's worth.

is the Target version considered the knockoff because it's cheaper? I know Lulu did not invent this style because I got some very much like it at Old Navy last year. I guess I can't bear to spend so much money on something that isn't even a whole pant;)

You need to read the recent news article about the Lulu yoga pants that are too sheer. One store made the customer prove it before they'd allow the return. Funny!

i knew the ones on the right were the lulu's! I LOVE LULU!! i lived in mine last summer and you would have no idea. i know they seem like a lot of money but they are awesome! i have to admit though that their older stuff is made way better than the newer. my first apartment was a couple of blocks from their first store in vancouver and i still have the first pair of pants i ever bought their at 23 (12 years ago!). the only wear and tear is the paint i dropped on them. and i bought some yoga pants for when i first got pregnant and wore them almost everyday and still wear them now and they look new {9 years old and no pilling.} i gifted myself with another pair for baby #two and those are still going strong as ell. the pants i wore last summer - those capris - did pill a bit between the thighs - but just to a point. it used to be made better but that can be said for anything. bottom line i would rather pay more once and it last than i have to be replacing it every year.
and i still wear the purple velour track suit my ex gifted me at christmas at 25 - looks brand new!!!
there you go, my to cents.

Target....hands down!!!! Now target has a tank that rocks and is identical to LuLu. It is a Champion exact copy of the Lulu practice freely tank and it is awesome!!!! Super comfortable and the colors are great!! By the time it wears out, the style will be out too so I am good with that!!! I change styles way too often to be wearing anything from 9 years ago. I can buy 4 target Lulu copies for 1 Lulu original. Seriously, by the time it wears out, you are sick of it anyway. My two cents.......
