holiday prep 004
i must admit, i am not one of those lucky people who are all done with christmas. where's the fun in that!? i, for one, am still plugging away at my lists. 'tis true, i keep approximately a thousand lists going at once. i have three unsightly post-its barely hanging on my monitor right now. and four haphazard lists pinned to my bulletin board. and surely one is tucked in my purse and one is behaving in my official christmas binder. oh and one is by my bedside table. i find myself re-writing lists to have it all down on one sheet but then i'll be in my car (without my list) and jot something down and need to create a whole new list. it's a bit of a problem, to say the least. but i guess it's my survival mechanism. bear grylls has his knife. i have my lists. i may seem all organized and perfect in blogland (or do i?), but i'm a teensy bit wild when it comes to listing. i counseled with my mom about this dilemma while she was here. she simply commiserated. she does it too. except hers are filed in a color coded system. heaven help us. on with the list...
• buy seasonal stamps
• break out new metallic pens
• address + stuff christmas cards
• finalize selection of holiday tunes for merry mix '09
• make christmasy cd sleeves
• pour the eggnog (thank you, daniel)
• find babysitter for office christmas party
• wear mittens out to the car more often
• start wrapping, or in some cases, rapping
• make list of neighbor gifts, check it twice
• create snowflake snowfall mobile with all that spare time

My husband teased me last weekend during date night when I pulled a steno pad out of my purse to jot down a gift idea.
I told him not to make me self-conscious about it.
He told me it was cute. That it was my thing.
:)
i am a list maker too. i am currently staring at two on my desk. i rewrite mine as well, but that is because i am a perfectionist and can't stand a mistake on the page. (it is a true, compulsive problem.) writing lists makes me feel like i have my life in control...even when i don't.
"or rapping" haha i love you!
i am the same way. lists everywhere. i buy one fancy notebook after another, but it does no good. i have post-its, receipts, hotel notepads covered in lists. here's to hoping the holidays are under more control than our lists!
"bear grylls has his knife. i have my lists." i love that.

and seriously - those people who are "all done with christmas" - i don't know about them. i begin december first, dive head first into the madness and love every twenty five days worth of it.

happy checking-things-off!
love, lindsay
I have holiday spreadsheets. Not kidding. I just make new tabs for each year. Then I have boxes for everyone on list and I include ideas for gifts and then fill in actual gifts once they've been purchased. It's obsessive but so satisfying.
oh my! I'm so glad there are list lovers like me out there. I worry about my compulsion sometimes. It feels organized, but it's not. I'm mostly a post-it note gal. I've been trying to make lists on my iphone and it's just not the same.
very much with you on the getting ready for Christmas super early thing... I like doing all my Christmasy prep in December... the prep is so much a part of the holiday season for me, that it wouldn't feel right if I didn't have shopping/baking/wrapping to do!
I know what you need for Christmas! An iPhone! Seriously! I thought a mere mom like me didn't need something so fancy, but my hubby got me one for my birthday and I haven't looked back since. You can carry as many lists as you want in your pocket and even email them to yourself if you don't want to throw it out and reuse it next Christmas. Not to mention the handy apps (I <3 groceryIQ) and google maps. You will never wish for a phone book or map again! Do it.
I love lists. And post-its. I am constantly writing on them. My hubby makes fun of me because when my lists get too messy, I write them over again, neatly this time. :)
There's nothing quite like checking off a list, or, better yet, even throwing away the post-it when it's all completed. I get such satisfaction out of that!
I love lists. There is something so fulfilling about crossing it out, checking it off, or erasing it from the chalkboard.
I haven't decorated for Christmas yet at all....decorating this early is frowned upon here in Austria, where traditionally the tree is decorated ON CHRISTMAS EVE! Yikes.
By the way, I love the little polka-dot cup you keep your rubberbands in, so cute.
xo
I write it all down so I won't forget it.
I'm SO with you! I love writing it down to get all the "stuff" out of my head and stop thinking about it!
LOVE this post. (and I'm not all done with Christmas either.)
I'm a list maker too. BUT, I keep a mini notebook filled with them. It goes everywhere with me. Even if I never do any of it, at least I don't have to constantly think about it anymore.
need a babysitter? I can probably help with that...
amen on the mittens in the car!!! it's soo cold in the mornings
if i could be born again, i'd want you to be my mother. you're so fantastic! i honestly hope that i'm like you when i become a mother.
I've been compiling a list of my lists today. I'm still not done.
So very glad to hear its not just me - I am starting have notes on my list that say (see separate list)!!!!
e.g.
Supermarket (see sep.list)
Town (see sep.list)
Table Present boxes (see sep. list)
And I was quietly panicking at the checkout in a shop yesterday when I didn't think I could find my list!
I am starting to worry - I think I need help! Hee hee
xx
I'm a total list maker --- with four kids, a husband, and two dogs in tow -- it's my best tool!
So what is on your Merry '09 cd??
Looking for some new, fun tunes this season.

Love the list....a good idea to get it all down!
haha. Christmas is the best time of year...for rapping.
I need to start getting into the habit of wearing gloves in the morning. I forget how cold it gets at night and how freezing my steering wheel is!
this totally sounds like me. I must have at least 10 different lists lying around and I always have a few in my purse. One big one is lists of songs I want to download that end up on post-its so I have dozens of them lol. My mother also does this, but whereas mine are neat and organized, hers are a bit chaotic...we all get it from somewhere I suppose :)
