a list for tuesday

last year's christmas letter-ing. pretty much the same scene as this year, but with new postage stamps and a new cluster of pens. i really can't wait to tell you about the pens we landed upon. however that will have to wait as they somehow got tucked into my in-laws' car with santa's satchel of to-be-hidden presents.

here's a list for today.
+ we went to the park at noon. it was sunny, bright and wonderful. i even had my camera. we shared a mini frosty. it was brilliant. one of those days i won't soon forget. maybe the cutest was when i asked benji if he wanted anymore ice cream and he replied, i scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. and came over for a big spoonful. i love when they shock you with things they know. like conquering tall twirly slides and curved ladders. kids are awesome.

+ i'm excited to debut a design i've been working on these past two days in my little aqua workshop. my cousin abby gave me the idea and, as it sometimes happens, the project has turned into something with a mind of its own. think printable poster. think custom canvas. get excited. i hope you'll like it. i was going to wait to post about it until i have it all printed pretty and framed and then photographed in good light, but the season is coming, the goose is getting fat, so i'll be posting it sooner than later without all the bells and whistles. (hopefully you can envision its potential.)

+ a giant thank you to those of you who placed cyber monday mini diary orders. they will be shipped by this weekend. and thanks for saying nice things about our family canvas montage. it's branching out for me, but i really do love it. thanks for the affirmations or affi's as we have termed them in this house.

+ i am thinking about the new michael buble christmas cd. i'm suddenly a bit fascinated by him, ever since a little blurb about him in the people magazine i slurped up on the way home from sun valley. what about you? any new holiday faves we should know about?

+ and what about christmas work party fashions? any ideas on going fancy but not too fancy? am considering a pink sparkly cardigan. because cardigans have never led me astray. and pink is festive, is it not?

+ i have a load of laundry to fold, dinner to make and a few stocking stuffers to wrap(!). so, i'm off. hope you have a happy tuesday. i seriously can't wait for december to begin. i love these inbetween days.

large family photos / easy canvas prints / special sale

as a follow up from my post featuring gallery wall layouts ideas, i wanted to show you how our family portrait canvases turned out. i chose five favorite shots from our photo shoot with blue lily and am happy i did as i think it makes the display nicely cohesive. (if i were to choose an assortment of random snapshots, i might make them all black and white or sepia to create the same cohesive look.) when they arrived, i was impressed with the beautiful colors, the sturdy quality in construction and excellent shipping and customer service too. easy canvas prints offer high quality custom photos on canvas. psst. don't miss out on their big cyber monday sale, going on until december 1st. people love a giant picture; it's a perfect gift for grandparents, new parents, newlyweds or 'oldlyweds' like us. a happy best friend or sibling snapshot (captured on canvas) would be cute for a teen's room too.

this post is part of my home is where the ART is series. the artwork is theirs, but these opinions are all mine; learn more about my handpicked sponsored series here.

am a fan / pump up for the holidays edition

am a fan of getting a head start on christmas decorating before taking off for thanksgiving weekend. dan kindly relented and let me bust out all the christmas boxes early. yay. so worth it when you can come home to christmas.

am a fan of this pumped up kicks tune by foster the people. discovered it on the radio and now listening to it on repeat.

am a fan of skein red pom pom yarn (i found it at michael's). it's an easy instant pom pom garland. my happiest holiday find so far. it is currently swooping through my house. and i plan to drape it over our christmas tree branches. and tie it around gifts too.

am a fan of this wood-working etsy shop. the wooden map puzzle magnets are rather dreamy.

am a fan of glittery round labels for holiday packaging. yes sir. i needed more things to glitter in my life.

am a fan of these handmade plump cheerful stuffed owls. i know dozens of girls who would love one (myself included).

am a fan of pretty polka dots on everything; these straws are so festive for a party!

am a fan of this ira glass quote and the beautiful way it has been designed, poster style.

am a fan of liz's gold toe flats. talk about festive! i love me an excuse to break out the spray paint.

am a fan of this recipe card stamp. so clever, so charming.

am a fan of danni's collage book; notes for nicholas. she is the ever-thoughtful one. something akin to this would make the best kind of the-thought-that-counts gift.

am a fan of the knitted critter hats for kiddos at old navy!

am a fan of so many elements from this kitchen makeover. beautiful and family friendly.

am a fan of this tinseled-out advent calendar; i love the mishmash of it, the simple (random) packaging and the bright hues too. sometimes we i get obsessive over things like advent calendars. this one is fabulous and reminds me to make it light, make it fun. this is christmas.

thankful

thank you for the food before us, the friends beside us, and the love between us.

wishing you and yours a wonderful long + lovely weekend. we're planning to roadtrip, rest, relax, watch movies, paint nails (while boys go to the shooting range) and most of all, count our blessings. oh yeah–if there is snow–we'll play fox and geese too. happy thanksgiving.

tune in friday, i have a special (overdue) am a fan post scheduled.

21 November 2011

weekending, lightbulb moments, motherhood and pie night

my favorite sight; for so many reasons. the boys in aprons whip up their first pie crust. i helped with the slicing. dan trusts all things ree and turned to our used and abused cookbook for pioneer woman's flat apple pie. it was messy and absolutely delicious, as all her food turns out to be. there was no shortage of butter and sugary sauciness. which made for a fantastic no-fail experience.

the weekend / in review

friday we went out on the town. all three of us. the snow was falling in fat flakes and the sun set early. we went to an art gallery + letterpress studio opening. i was all a-bubbling like holiday tea when we stepped inside. the typical art crowd is just as i remembered. it felt like i was introducing dan to the world of artsy letterpress lovers, not like i knew any of them personally, but the introduction to the whole event of it. like visiting the blogs i love, but in real life.

to be honest, i felt a little out of place. and in my heart i felt envious; i've guiltily given most creative projects a backseat (or thrown in the trunk!) in my life right now. i wish i could carve out more time for things like this, i thought to myself. more time for cultivating my skills for awesome passions i wish i had time for. if i didn't blog so much, maybe i could be better at fill-in-the-blank. or, maybe if i could cut out my once-in-awhile napping ritual i could read more fine literature or possibly, dig into the new yorker or something equally as stimulating / informative. heavens, i am thirty now, i should be reading stuff like that. and i should definitely not be so involved with wondering what ryan seacrest will be producing next.

soon i began to look around–pushing through those feelings–and saw dan with benji in his arms, mingling with the artists and i realized something. my own toddler is my creative project at the moment. he's the main show. and that is more than okay with me. it was a happy mini lightbulb moment. one more moment of realizing how motherhood is something i'm unbelievably grateful for and very proud of. i love that mother is now a title i hold. it is worth giving other things up for. and then i felt fine about everything. i let it go and talked to the artists about their work. and rather than feeling sad that i don't know where i'd stick in letterpressing in my life, i felt happy that these lively ladies are opening their own studio and rockin' it; local style. i am grateful for that moment of letting my own selfish feelings go. to be happy for them and happy right where i am too. u be u, i'll be me. they had their machines going so dan (and benji!) got to see the magic of handcranking out artwork, up close. the fire is still burning to create things with my own hands. there is always a creative storm brewing in my mind of new projects to start, but that shouldn't overwhelm me (as it often does), it should inspire me. it should show me that i'm still alive and breathing. a time and season for everything. for me, it's the season of being mom.

side note // something my dear idaho friend, julie, once told me has been sticking to me like glue lately. i think of it often and am so happy she answered me so honestly. over the phone, i casually inquired about what amazing new sewing project she was working on. (the first time i met her she was sewing a giant hoop skirt–and other treasures to outfit her kiddos–to wear at an upcoming mountain man rendezvous!) she recently had her third baby and is gracefully figuring out how to manage life as a mom of three. julie said so nonchalantly and very matter-of-fact, i've decided that my kids are my hobby. i am putting them first. that one phrase has come into my mind so often. it reminds me, as a mother, to remember to make motherhood fun; to make it more than an obligatory responsibility. to make a choice to make the most of it. to enjoy each day as they are only little once. to make motherhood matter. thank you, julie.

since benji was already out past his bedtime, we went out for cocoa and shared a little delicacy called a fudge cup at this favorite place i love called gourmandies. it was packed and i felt like we were suddenly in new york city. everyone was dressed up and chatting in giant groups. i guess i'm such a homebody i've forgotten that it's sometimes totally fun to get out once in awhile and rub shoulders with the leather jacket (with sequins underneath) crowd. (side note // i seem to always be documenting the cakes, pies and general sweets we consume, am consuming, have consumed. please take no effort in doing the math for me. i read recently in a magazine that your favorite skinny jeans will tell you when you've gained weight. toss that scale! which is funny to me because most skinny jeans are mostly made up of luscious spandex, meaning stretch factor. which is why we love them. now will the new yorker tell you that? til then i'll wait for my tj maxx specials to speak up.)

saturday i joined in on a serious craft fest with the ladies at my church. we watched a buttermint demonstration, made a citrus salt scrub (aaamazing and easy!) and i wrapped a yellow yarn wreath (it's cute, but i don't think i'll ever do that again, unless i have fun people to chat with!). we ate chicken noodle soup. the boys had boy day with haircuts and a dinosaur museum and leaves to rake. we crossed everything off our to do list. i got to have a long chit chat with my brother while rounding the corners of my christmas cards (another task only fun if you have something / someone to distract you). thanks pete! and then tidied the house up. and smiled to have a house to tidy up and whipped some fresh cream for pie night.

sunday we baked pie and ate cheerios. we got dolled up and went to church and, in sunday school, discussed Jesus Christ and what it means to be a true disciple of His. i got to sit in on a class full of bright teenagers who had good answers about being an example while not being pushy. we talked about loving everyone and accepting others as they are while still holding true to our own values. i felt the spirit and felt thankful for the gospel. i am grateful to know what i believe in and know i can lean on it when i am weak. five o'clock, the family showed up; in coats and wet shoes and beaming faces. the warmth was immediate. we ate pie. the kids watched winnie the pooh while we ate more pie. there was coconut cream, chocolate decadence, pumpkin, pioneer woman's flat apple and gingerale party punch. everyone brought homebaked pies. and that wasn't even a requirement! i was so impressed and full to the gills.

there was a coloring table with thanksgiving printable pages and extra chairs brought in. dan got out the rickety old bench for the end of the table. it reminded me of thanksgivings everywhere wherein people round up random assorted seating to seat their hungry, happy visitors. there was a whole bunch of family in our little house. we felt so happy. my made-up game seemed like a success. the children were giddy and chit-chattering. i found the little girls 8 and 10, roaming my office glancing at photos. one asked, so what exactly do you do in here?! if only i had a clear cut answer for her!

the pies were perfect; only tasty, flaky crumbs left. which i nibbled on and vacuumed up simultaneously twenty minutes after the last guests left (and i'm not even a pie person). it's fun when you get to call yourself a hostess and your family members guests. living away from family for awhile, i so appreciate getting to see them more often! what better party is there than a roomful of relatives?! it is my favorite kind of comfort zone.

moop / longtime favorite find

am such a fan of moop bags. i have used this one for three years now as a diaper bag / overnight bag / basic everything-that-fits-in-goes bag and it still looks fantastic. not one bit beat up. my husband likes it too; that's saying a lot for a diaper bag.

am thinking their new very useful tote might just be my favorite new gift idea for christmas. i love the plethora of pockets (inside and out) and deep space for all kinds of tote-alongs. it would be perfect for church, library trips, the gym, the market and anywhere-with-a-kid adventure. you can never have enough totes; am i right, ladies?!

p.s. thankfully moop is having a holiday sale right now thru november 28th. enter TINYMOOP upon checkout for 10% off. hip, hip. happy weekend!

mom's apple cake with best ever sauce

image by summer harms / penpal project postcards available at the mini mart

this cake has recently reappeared in my life. thank goodness for that. it is a cinch to make and bakes a sweet little square cake. no fuss; no layers, no piping bags, no flipping cakes from pans. just beautiful simple apple cake. the moist cake practically springs onto the tines of your fork, begging you to take every last crumb. the best ever sauce will have your guests sobbing with joy. and the leftovers (if you're so lucky) taste mighty fine straight from the fridge as an apple cake morning snack, sans sauce.

Mom's Apple Cake with Best Ever Sauce
my mom says this recipe originated with her dear friend, pat wade

1 cup sugar
1/2 stick of butter
1 egg
2 cups shredded raw apples (i like honeycrisp, about two large apples will do)
1 cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Firstly, shred apples (skins and all) in a small bowl and set aside. In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add egg and beat well. Add remaining ingredients, including shredded apple; mixing on low just until everything is well combined. Bake in a greased 8" square pan at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes. The edges will pull away from the pan like brownies tend to do. Allow cake to cool while making the incredibly divine best ever sauce. I prefer serving this in dainty dessert bowls, as the sauce tends to pool around the cake. Soaking in the creamy buttery goodness.

Best Ever Sauce
1 stick butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup light cream (such as half & half)
1/2 tsp. vanilla
pinch of nutmeg

In a medium saucepan, slowly heat butter, sugar, and cream over low heat. Stir for 10 - 15 minutes until well blended and thickened. The house will smell heavenly. Keep it on low; do not allow the sauce to boil. Lastly, add the vanilla and nutmeg. Spoon (generously) over pieces of apple cake. Serve warm.

enjoy.

my home office & craft studio tour / oh so aqua

this is my new home office / craft studio. am a happy girl that i have my very own space to create, work, blog, make stuff and more. (if you don't have a whole room to spread out in, see how i stuffed all my stuff within a craft studio in a corner of our apartment!)

with my new place, the first thing we did was remove the door. now it has an airy, friendly feeling; i don't feel trapped in a dungeon. the space is open to all and luckily my three year old knows what is off limits and what is not (my printer–perched on a shelf attached underneath my desk– is his favorite place to park cars). dan pumped me up for painting the walls something bright–and with only one window–i'm so glad i did. (thanks to my sidekick, miss painterly herself; whitney.) it looks seafoam green in the mornings, tiffany blue at nights. i work late, so this room feels cheerful no matter what the hour. dan also opened up my eyes to all the different ways to position the furniture too; he helped me with the layout of the space (and built all the ikea expedit shelves too). this room is finally functioning quite nicely, so allow me to give you a little tour.

most of the items shown have been around for a long time or have been gifted to me as hand-me-downs (such as that amazing lamp. thanks dad!). the rest of the resources are listed below (if i missed something, i'll be glad to answer questions in the comment section).

my main goals //
have a functioning space with clear access for creative work (including floorspace!)
to keep my computer desk clear of unessentials
plenty of visual inspiration
have a 'home' for all my supplies for quick clean-up (labels help!)
to feature artwork i love and be flexible to switching it up
make double stick tape, pens, ribbon and washi tape close at hand

this is my mailing center / inspiration board. i was happy to discover rubbermaid bins fit brilliantly in the expedit shelves for storing kraft mailers, ribbon, mini diaries and other goodies from my shop, cellophane bags and more to make my shipping and handling process go oh so smoothly.

literally pinning a few things i love // concert tickets, christmas fabrics, gorgeous lady hue art print by my friend, caitlin of hue and hum, home is where your heart is print by sugar fresh, mini clipboards for ever-changing to do lists, snapshots and note cards i can't possibly tuck away (one in which i'm wearing a crazy yellow wig in my high school musical, pippin). remember how this bulletin board used to look?

my favorite yellow chairs came from my grandma, the awesome drop-leaf table from my sister-in-law amy, the letterpress prints by tag team tompkins. (i'll have you know, hanging those pretties was no easy feat for an un-math wiz like me. but so worthwhile. i used this method.) other necessities: three hole punch, two types of tape, washable markers for benji projects (and sometimes mine), usps postage scale. and tucked back there awaiting addressing; our christmas cards printed at moo! i created a mini over-the-closet collage of favorite design work i've done for clients; a mini montage to celebrate my ideas in print.

left: here's a peek inside the closet; bursting with paper (remind me never to buy stationery. my obsession is overwhelming.), punches, notebooks, supplies and a little nook devoted to vintage postage stamps.
right: another expedit ikea shelf to hold inspiration binders, baskets (from target) to house cds, digital custom design work, family home evening ideas, photographs and love letters (and letters i love). i spray painted a wooden teacup holder and like to hang spools of twine and washi tape on it. a touch of dazzle.

these are four favorite items in the office. i purchased these shadowboxes on clearance from the martha crafts line at michaels a hundred years ago and just barely created collages within them. why it took me so long, i'll never know. one is dedicated to lovely penmanship from a few beloved ladies in my life, the other to my dad's european adventures, another to new york city, van gogh (and general passion for following your dreams) and finally, one to my lover and best friend.

the jutted beam seemed a perfect place to perch these babies, all in a row. they are the first thing i see when i walk in. they make me happy to be home. as do the aqua walls; i love the color, but i love the happy memories of painting them ourselves even more.

on a side note // lots of things are coming down the pipe, as they always do mid-november. it's a graphic designer's version of tax season. i'm working on a book layout project; scanning vintage seventies photos makes me smile. blogging may come to a slow pedaling action. am gearing up to host family pie night this weekend. i hope my family fits in our house! i'm especially excited to make my family (and dan's too, eventually) play my holiday edition of $25,000 pyramid. it's a little known fact that i really love to make up games (and make my family play along. they are good sports). tune in tomorrow, i'll be featuring my mom's amazing recipe for apple cake (because you need it this thanksgiving / you won't be sorry). wishing you all a productive and happy week. anyone have their christmas binder out yet? mine is laying across the couch at the moment; bursting with ideas. ready or not, the holidays are a-coming.

children's book / everything goes: on land by brian biggs

have a little one on your christmas list? one obsessed with wheels and things that go!? this is the book for them. i promise. author and illustrator brian biggs recently contacted me knowing my little boy might be his target audience. i opened up the link and his website alone had benji (hurriedly climbing on my lap) oohing and ahhing. we excitedly looked forward to receiving his new (and first solo) book, Everything Goes: On Land and it did not disappoint. the illustrations are clever, colorful and creative. we look at it on long car rides, before bed, at the breakfast table and even tote it to church. i loved the way brian described it to me, it combines the sensibility of Richard Scarry, Where's Waldo and I Spy books. this is definitely a page-turner that benji will pour over and discover even more interesting / hilarious details in as he grows up. this post is part of my home is where the ART is series. the artwork is his, but these opinions are all mine; learn more about my handpicked sponsored series here.

what gave you the idea to make this kind of cleverly detailed book? It happened on a couple of levels. First, there was the fact that I am a parent of a twelve and ten year old. I spent many many hours reading books to and with my kids that didn't hold their interest, or worse (for me) didn't hold my interest (after all, it was I who had to read the book over and over again). I loved Scarry as a kid, and I loved books by David Macaulay, maps, diagrams and that kind of thing as I got older. I've illustrated a lot of books written by others, but when I got a chance to be both illustrator and author, I knew I wanted to make something that I would have wanted.

A lot of the games and details came from the fact that I had to sit here in my studio and draw the thing. It was always going to have the complex pages of cars and pedestrians, and it just seemed natural to hide stuff all over the place. Often, the heavy creative work is pretty much completed on a book by the time one gets to actually creating the art for it. So in this case it helped to keep me on my game and having fun as I was drawing. In addition to the birds and numbers and things that you mentioned, there are dozens of references to people and things close to me, as well as many Philadelphia shout-outs.

what is an essential must-have for your creative work space? Maybe it's a bit mundane, but a really good stool on which to sit is important. Generally, the stuff around me is stuff that in some way is meaningful. One of my desks I built myself, another is an old drafting table I found in a flea-market in San Francisco. I've never been happy working in a space that is full of generic furniture. I like stuff with personality. I also like having a big bulletin board.

But really the most important thing in my creative workspace is access to coffee.

any advice for hopeful writers / illustrators? I think it's important to write and draw for oneself before thinking who the audience is and what they want. Unless you love what you do and make, no one else will. I also think it's important to know that if you are making good work and making sure the people whom you want to work with see it, you'll find your way. The business is always on the hunt for new talent and good stories.

p.s. Everything Goes: In the Air will be out in a year, with By Sea a year after that. hip, hip!

a simple (yet dazzling) homemade autumn display

i wanted to share tips on making an autumn display, mainly because it was so much fun to create. benji and i hunted and gathered for all the ingredients to concoct something charming for our entryway. i've seen so many lovely (and expensive) ideas in the pages of magazines and thought i ought to try assemble a version of my own; handcrafted from items around our yard and home (and tucked away in christmas boxes too).

our twig arrangement came together nicely (thanks to our excess of tree limbs, see below) and i was glad to use glass containers i had on hand. the burlap was purchased a few weeks ago at wal-mart (for another project, so i didn't count that cost) and it's my new favorite material. the texture and soft hue is just right for the season and the fray method says rustic rather than i-can't-sew. methinks this year will be the christmas of burlap. the gold spray paint is my pick of the month. it adds dazzle to everything. it just makes me feel crafty having it in my garage (yay! we have a garage to store messy, crafty things!); so yes, i've been a little spray paint happy. it was nice to give myself a challenge to create something from nothing, without spending much (the walnuts, in shells, were the only thing i actually purchased!) the best part about them is every evening when dan comes through the door (to happy shouts!) and cracks one or two open to snack on (and share).

custom moving announcements / SHE PAPERIE & design boutique

i came to the decision early on that i'd outsource our moving announcements rather than attempt to whip something up myself. turning a project like this over to someone is usually tough for me. i am a bit of a control freak and i love the freedom in designing for myself. and i'm picky with anything associated with paper / designs / envelopes / fonts / etc. (don't i sound like a dream to work with?!) however, giving myself the luxury of delegating this responsibility was the best thing i could have done during those hectic moving-in weeks.

it became an easy decision since my computer was not even unboxed, nor was i in the right mindset, nor have any extra time to toy around in illustrator. but most importantly, i had someone specific in mind for this custom design work: suzanne of SHE PAPERIE + design boutique. suzanne is a graphic designer, darling details enthusiast and stylist extraordinaire (she has a background in interior design, and it shows). i knew she would know exactly how to craft up an announcement for our very first home. i gave her a few of my tumbling ideas (stripes, kate spade-esque) and she ran with them. with running shoes on. she ran with them and took them to the ice cream shop and bought them two scoops. i loved working with her and benefited greatly from seeing 'the other side' of the graphic design process. she tailored these announcements to us; suzanne's enthusiasm jumped through my inbox with pdf. proofs that suited my original ideas perfectly. she gets giddy about all the details coming together. (you should have seen how she packaged it all up for me!) she also crafted up the idea of coordinating washi tape to seal up the envelopes. genius! i love that she thought of the entire announcement entourage (that's service right there).

her mixing of fonts, graphic placements, happy quote and clever wording made me shout hooray. (psst. i love the two-sided flat; i doubt i'll ever move on from that format.) all i had to do was go pick out postage stamps and write out addresses. two of my favorite things. thank you, suzanne for bringing this special project to life and taking a big weight off my shoulders! your vibrance shines through. this post is part of my home is where the ART is series. the artwork is hers, but these opinions are all mine; learn more about my handpicked sponsored series here.

you juggle raising twins and running a booming business, what would your advice be to other entrepreneur mamas? (i'm all ears!) Forgo sleep. And learn how to juggle! Okay, so forgoing sleep probably isn’t the best advice to give. But really, at the end of the day, I just try to remind myself that I can’t do it all and I’ve given myself permission to not have be the ideal...fill-in-the-blank. Perfectionism is over rated (and yes, I’m a total recovering perfectionist). No matter how hard I try or how late I stay up, I just can’t be the perfect wife/mother/graphic designer/business owner/blogger all at the same time. And guess what? That’s okay. First and foremost, I am devoted to my family and then to all of my other roles second. I feel so blessed to have finally become a mother so I don’t take that gift for granted. But when it does come time to work, working in an organized, efficient as possible manner helps me maximize my design time. In the end, finding a comfortable balance between personal and professional endeavors is key. Do what works best for your family regardless of what outside sources think is best for you. Remind yourself of all that you are doing well instead of scrutinizing the areas where you fall short. Being a mama and an entrepreneur is no easy task, but be proud of yourself for even having the courage to try your hand at the juggling act!

what is an essential must-have for your creative work space? If I could only pick just one essential, it would be a rockin’ iTunes playlist to get me through long hours of working on my computer. But my Logitech TrackMan Mouse would be a close second. Oh, and snacks! A girl can’t live without those.

you told me that you don't like 'regurgitating' any one else's designs (i love that), where do you find your inspiration to keep every design fresh? Fashion, interior design and beautiful imagery found on pages of magazines I love are great sources of inspiration. However, since my work is heavily centered around custom design projects, ensuring that the end result is one tailored to my client’s own sentiments and style is very important to me. So essentially, the client is the one providing me with a great springboard of inspiration to draw from. I take cues from colors they love, a pattern they may be drawn to or often times will focus on a tiny detail (such as a fabric used in a nursery) to create an entire invitation ensemble from there. The ultimate satisfaction is when you’ve managed to create a design that is right in line with your brand yet at the same time when your client sees it, the response is “that was exactly what I had in mind!”

// these gorgeous images are by jeanna hayes photography and styled by suzanne herself. obviously i couldn't narrow them down, they came out so beautifully. and, don't worry. the addresses and phone numbers have all been completely altered.
